Curator's note: Warning -- the video is graphic.

I just opened this and it is shocking and terribly frightening. To think that these are supposed to be "sane" people and that jackass in the White House wants to sit down and talk with them. Maybe we should send him to Vienna for the next ceremony. On, second thought, maybe that is what happened to his brain when he was a child in Indonesia.

Just received from a friend of mine.
I don't know how this will affect you, but it made me cry and I immediately said a prayer to God for His mercy and asked Him to help us in this country.

How about those 'fun loving Muslim's???????

This is not funny but everyone needs to see it!!!!!!!!

The Day of Ashura, which is the 10th day of Muharram in the Islamic calendar, is commemorated by Shiite Muslims as a day of mourning for the martyrdom of Hussein ibn Ali, the grandson of the Islamic Prophet Muhammad at the Battle of Karbala (80 KM south of Baghdad) on 10 Muharram in the Hijra (Islamic) year 61 (October 10, 680 AD.)

The ceremony involves cutting men, including boys, on the top of the scalp and allowing the blood to flow freely. It's not a nice looking ceremony, to be sure, and many Muslims disagree with this practice, because they clearly see that it sends out a negative image of their religion.

But one should also remember that scalp wounds tend to be very bloody, and probably most cuts aren't that deep.

It's not a ceremony that looks great to me, but I strive to be non-judgemental about stuff I don't really understand. Plus the video simply shows the ceremony being practiced, but it's put in context (by some European facists no doubt) of: ohmigawd look what's going to happen your neighborhood.

Rightwing thinktanks send out this kind of incendiary stuff to gin up fear, fear, fear, fear in their brainwashed minions. It's all about: see what these eeeevul muzlins are going to MAKE YOU do???

As if. The Muslims aren't interested in forcing people to follow their traditions. And how much more "insane" is this than certain christianist traditions like talking in tongues, snake handling, drinking poison, and the like??? If you say: oh well, only a small, small portion of backwoods christians do those kinds of things... well, so what? they still DO them to this day. I disagree with those practices, esp bc christianist sects like those often engage in abusing women & kids, too. See the wikipedia info re Tony Alamo (he's just one among MANY others of like ilk)

SO: I'm supposed to FEAR excessively these Muslims, but I'm equally supposed to pretend that the weird christianist sects engaging in child abuse & doing weird things like snake handling are no big deal, just another day?

Typical rightwing hypocracy & double standards. Typical rightwing corporate think tank b.s. ginning up racism & bigotry, gratefully received by bigoted racist non-thinking rightist.

There are Christians in the world who celebrate their faith in similar ways. In some nations people are actually crucified (though taken down before death) on good Friday. Other Christians whip themselves or endure physical torment in order to pay for their sins and get closer to God.

Jews of course have circumcision as part of their faith, which I'm sure could be considered barbaric by outside observers.

I wonder when we'll get a hysterical RWF about these freaks and their barbaric practices.

Like Anon above said don't some christians nail themselves to trees.

I believe the Catholics are also convinced that the host and wine are transmigrated into blood and body.

Agree that there are lots of odd religious practices around the world, including fire walking, flagellation, piercings with swords and other sharp objects, ritual crucifixians, and so on.

No doubt there a numerous websites highlighting some of these more extreme religious practices world-wide.

Big deal. Stuff happens. There are zealots in every religious faith, just as there are strange practices in every faith.

Making one religion look worse than others is stupid. They're all just different sides of the same coin. A fanatic is a fanatic, no matter what & which faith is being followed. Deal with it.

This could be about Sarah Palin's witch doctor or the Christians in Uganda who want the death penalty for homosexuals.

God forbid we sit down and talk with anyone.

That would be all un-crusader-like.

Talking is for Democrat fags. Real GOP man fight! (And have a wide stance)

It seemed to me that those Muslim men were pretty manly & all. You'd think it would be right up the GOP manly fighting man alley. Sort of like Ted Nugent with his bows & arrows. What's the difference?
