MRWD Housekeeping Post for Monday, December 17, 2018

Hello from MRWD HQ,

Apologies for being gone for close to 2 month. I had a change in jobs and had to move, sell a house, buy a new house, put stuff in storage, take it out of storage, etc. The dust has been settling and I have some time to update the blog.

I had a recent question about pictures in older e-mails not showing up. I migrated the pictures to a new account, and ended up with a bunch of broken links in Blogger because of it. I will work on fixing the broken links but it will take some time.

Thank you to everyone whom is submitting material, you're keeping the site going. And everyone else, keep the comments flowing, this site seems to be averaging about 1,000 views a day, meaning that there are people/spammers/trolls/Russian bots interested in what is being posted up here.

Greetings from MRWD HQ,

This is a big update but bear with me, it appears that MRWD is slacking on taking his county back. I thank everyone who has been submitting forwards, however the flow has died down to a trickle. Is it because the right is in charge of all 3 branch government and cannot claim to be under the tyrannical yoke of the liberals, the propaganda machines have moved on to Twitter/Facebook and other platforms of dissemination other than E-mail, or has the right-wing think tanks been taken over by the Russian bots? The last one I do find kind of ironic as it is depicting how once again American jobs are being stolen by automation and the damn foreigners! Who knows?

Anyway, I do have a lot of unpublished older Obama-is-a-socialist-Kenyan-dictator-bent-on-taking-over-the-world-by-taking-your-guns-away-and/or-giving-away-free-phones-and-don't-forget-the-liberal-media e-mails. So if you start seeing those, no MRWD has not become more senile, he is just slacking or taking the back seat to a bot posing as a person on Twitter or Facebook.

On to other news and I apologize in advance for the tirade; comments, comments comments. Blogger seems to have the worst comment moderation. As some of you might have noticed, I was away the past weekend and took down comment moderation, thinking a couple of days unsupervised would be fine. I hadn't heard much from Mike Hawk (Manuel Noriega) for several weeks, but just like the ex that won't take no for an answer, he is constantly doing drive-bys, and leaving you crazy notes that don't make any sense. He really does not go away, Mike really loves/misses you people, because he is still lurking around despite months of rejection.

Ideally I wouldn't like to have to do comment moderation. To keep down the noise it would be awesome if I could just select a commenter and hit a block button and an algorithm just take those messages and tosses them, however that seems to be too much for Google/Blogger to handle. Apparently the ownership is on the blog admin, they are suppose to mark the comments as "Spam", then at some point in time supposedly after a non-disclosed number of Spam tags, the commenter's comments will automatically be thrown in the Spam folder. I have marked more than I can count of Mike's posts as spam, and blogger still publishes his jibbing nonsense. He obviously has more free time than me or most others do to lurk around the site, so if anyone has any more insight into how to mitigate comments, please e-mail or drop a comment to me as it seems like a really big flaw in the current Russian spammer bot/post-fact world.

MRWD Housekeeping Post for Wednesday, March 22, 2017

Greetings from MRWD HQ.

I apologize, as I stated in a previous update, I was attempting to cut down on the noise on the blog. Some of the commenters advocated that I “ban” certain people that were trolling/sockpuppeting on the comments.

Dave and I both talked about it, but doing so would mean that we would have to eliminate the ability to comment anonymously. I really like the comments that anonymous users have posted up, and I resolved to stay on top of the comments and remove the ones that were obviously trolling.

Although deleting comments was fun and amusing, lately, I’ve been pretty busy and have not had the time to check in as often as I would like.

What that has led to is a handful of interesting comments and what seems to be random noise. Currently, with a heavy heart, I removed the anonymous comments. I apologize if this is an inconvenience to any of you out there. I have thought to myself that the noise on the site is an accurate reflection of the current political times that we reside in.

Thoughts? Any other suggestions?

Greetings from MRWD HQ. A few notes ....

Dave has been busy, I’ve been busy. It is sometimes hard to keep on top of the site when you have other things going on.

As always contributors thank you for you e-mails. You help keep the museum fresh, entertaining, and up-to-date with whom RWD is angry.

Some of you have noticed I started removing certain comments from the posts. I'd love to have some right-wing folks come in and discuss these FWD:s, but to come here and attack/insult/troll other posters is creating a lot of extraneous noise on the site.

Commenters are more than welcome to debate, agree, disagree, whatever. However when the comments turn derogatory and personal I am going to remove them. Thoughts? Any other suggestions?

My Right Wing Dad Needs YOU!!!!1

You may have noticed that some of the e-mails being posted are rather dated, I mean the right wing outrage of Bruce/Caitlyn Jenner is getting to be old news. Well, Dave has a pretty good backlog of old e-mails that can probably keep the website/blog going for six months to a year. However I am sure that there is plenty of new propaganda coming out of the right wing machine.

If you contribute excellent, keep it up, it is very appreciated!

For the rest of you, contact that one Uncle that is no longer allowed over for Thanksgiving, or your neighbor that listens to way to much right-wing talk radio and can't quite figure out the tubes of the interweb or proper punctuation. Ask them to be put on their e-mail lists and send that on to us. We will be happy to publish their unique outlook on reality.

Two million pageviews!

My Right Wing Dad just keeps FWDing along. Thanks to all the contributors and commentators who have made this fun possible.

This is the blog total as of about 13:53 on Friday, May 27.

Here's a look at the site stats since May 2010. You might think that MRWD would have more visitors during election years or that there would be some sort of correlation between events and pageviews, but that does not appear to be the case.

This I find a little odd. How did "Back Door Gun Control" so overwhelmingly overtake "Obama Death List" as the most-viewed page on MRWD? I thought the deathlist was much juicier and would never fall out of the top spot.

I rec'd an email from a regular reader who didn't like that crazed right-winger guy who was chiming in with nonsense from time to time. He asked if I could ban him or block him. Well, I can't, and I don't want to. I think he demonstrated just as much of the banality and ridiculousness of RW thought as these FWDs do.

I'm still looking for some help. If anyone wants to join the MRWD team, please let me know. It's fun! We do offer up these FWDs as museum pieces, not something we present as good, bad, true, etc. No matter my reaction to these things, I rarely comment, and would expect anyone who comes aboard to administer to do the same.

Is Facebook killing the RW FWD:?

Facebook is no longer for young people posting selfies, song lyrics and their lunch plans. The older generations are on it in larger numbers, and they seem to be taking their RW FWD:s with them. I'm having a harder and harder time scraping up forwarded material for MRWD.

I am kicking around the idea of using some of the Facebook postings in addition to the FWD:s. Check out the subreddit Forwards From Grandma.

Before making that move, however, I'd like the opinion of the commenters who are so important to this site. What do you think?

I'm desperate for material. Please scour your inboxes and forward some FWD:s to myrightwingdad@gmail.com. Tell the friends and relatives who cut you off after finding out you voted for Obama to put you back on their mailing lists. Or not. If you send me something and I don't use it, it probably means we've already published it.

Let's discuss: Should comments not related to the RWFWD: at hand be deleted? In the past, I've only deleted spam. I'd love to have some right-wing folks come in and discuss these FWD:s, but to come here and type in all caps about unrelated issues is creating more noise than I feel like hosting on my site. Thots?

We're up to 1,363,491 hits as of this morning. Seems like it was just yesterday that we were talking about a million, and we'll be at 1.5 million soon.

We have a milestone to celebrate!

By the time this posts, MyRightWingDad will be 1,000,000 hits old. One million pageviews -- who'd a thunk it? Thanks to everyone who has participated, especially those of you who have offered your debunking services and kept the conversation lively.

The graph to the right shows how the hits have ebbed and flowed since MRWD's creation in May of 2007 to the present. The current administration took over in March of 2009. The original creator of MRWD took up beekeeping in New York City. No kidding.

Most hits in a month came in November 2010, when there were 67,296. Fewest hits was December 2008, with only 12,210.

Who reads MRWD? Lots of folks in the U.S., followed by the U.K. Surprisingly, Canada is pretty far down the list, surpassed by two non-English speaking countries.
