Fintan O’Toole: Donald Trump has destroyed the country he promised to make great again

The world has loved, hated and envied the US. Now, for the first time, we pity it

April 25, 2020
By Fintan O'Toole

Over more than two centuries, the United States has stirred a very wide range of feelings in the rest of the world: love and hatred, fear and hope, envy and contempt, awe and anger. But there is one emotion that has never been directed towards the US until now: pity.

However bad things are for most other rich democracies, it is hard not to feel sorry for Americans. Most of them did not vote for Donald Trump in 2016. Yet they are locked down with a malignant narcissist who, instead of protecting his people from Covid-19, has amplified its lethality. The country Trump promised to make great again has never in its history seemed so pitiful.

Will American prestige ever recover from this shameful episode? The US went into the coronavirus crisis with immense advantages: precious
weeks of warning about what was coming, the world's best concentration of medical and scientific expertise, effectively limitless financial
resources, a military complex with stunning logistical capacity and most of the world's leading technology corporations. Yet it managed to
make itself the global epicentre of the pandemic.

As the American writer George Packer puts it in the current edition of the Atlantic, "The United States reacted ... like Pakistan or Belarus - e and a dysfunctional government whose leaders were too corrupt or stupid to head off mass suffering."

It is one thing to be powerless in the face of a natural disaster, quite another to watch vast power being squandered in real time - willfully, malevolently, vindictively. It is one thing for governments to fail (as, in one degree or another, most governments did), quite another to watch a ruler and his supporters actively spread a deadly
virus. Trump, his party and Rupert Murdoch's Fox News became vectors of the pestilence.

The grotesque spectacle of the president openly inciting people (some of them armed) to take to the streets to oppose the restrictions that save lives is the manifestation of a political death wish. What are
supposed to be daily briefings on the crisis, demonstrative of national unity in the face of a shared challenge, have been used by Trump merely
to sow confusion and division. They provide a recurring horror show in which all the neuroses that haunt the American subconscious dance naked
on live TV.

If the plague is a test, its ruling political nexus ensured that the US would fail it at a terrible cost in human lives. In the process, the idea of the US as the world's leading nation - an idea that has shaped
the past century - has all but evaporated.

Other than the Trump impersonator Jair Bolsonaro in Brazil, who is now looking to the US as the exemplar of anything other than what not to
do? How many people in Duesseldorf or Dublin are wishing they lived in Detroit or Dallas?

It is hard to remember now but, even in 2017, when Trump took office, the conventional wisdom in the US was that the Republican Party and the
broader framework of US political institutions would prevent him from doing too much damage. This was always a delusion, but the pandemic has
exposed it in the most savage ways.

Abject surrender. What used to be called mainstream conservatism has not absorbed Trump - he has absorbed it. Almost the entire right-wing half of American politics has surrendered abjectly to him. It has sacrificed on the altar of wanton stupidity the most basic ideas of responsibility, care and even safety.

Thus, even at the very end of March, 15 Republican governors had failed to order people to stay at home or to close non-essential businesses. In Alabama, for example, it was not until April 3rd that governor Kay Ivey finally issued a stay-at-home order.

In Florida, the state with the highest concentration of elderly people with underlying conditions, governor Ron DeSantis, a Trump mini-me, kept the beach resorts open to students traveling from all over the US for spring break parties. Even on April 1st, when he issued restrictions, DeSantis exempted religious services and "recreational activities".

Georgia governor Brian Kemp, when he finally issued a stay-at-home order on April 1st, explained: "We didn't know that [the virus can be spread by people without symptoms] until the last 24 hours."

This is not mere ignorance - it is deliberate and homicidal stupidity. There is, as the demonstrations this week in US cities have shown, plenty of political mileage in denying the reality of the pandemic. It is fueled by Fox News and far-right internet sites, and it reaps for these politicians millions of dollars in donations, mostly (in an ugly
irony) from older people who are most vulnerable to the coronavirus.

It draws on a concoction of conspiracy theories, hatred of science, paranoia about the "deep state" and religious providentialism (God will protect the good folks) that is now very deeply infused in the mindset of the American right.

Trump embodies and enacts this mindset, but he did not invent it. The US response to the coronavirus crisis has been paralyzed by a contradiction that the Republicans have inserted into the heart of US
democracy. On the one hand, they want to control all the levers of governmental power. On the other they have created a popular base by intent is innately evil and must not be trusted.

The contradiction was made manifest in two of Trump's statements on the pandemic: on the one hand that he has "total authority", and on the
other that "I don't take responsibility at all". Caught between authoritarian and anarchic impulses, he is incapable of coherence.

Fertile ground. But this is not just Donald Trump. The crisis has shown definitively that Trump's presidency is not an aberration. It has grown on soil long prepared to receive it. The monstrous blossoming of misrule has structure and purpose and strategy behind it.

There are very powerful interests who demand "freedom" in order to do as they like with the environment, society and the economy. They have
infused a very large part of American culture with the belief that "freedom" is literally more important than life. My freedom to own assault weapons trumps your right not to get shot at school. Now, my
freedom to go to the barber ("I Need a Haircut" read one banner this week in St Paul, Minnesota) trumps your need to avoid infection.

Usually when this kind of outlandish idiocy is displaying itself, there is the comforting thought that, if things were really serious, it would
all stop. People would sober up. Instead, a large part of the US has hit the bottle even harder.

And the president, his party and their media allies keep supplying the drinks. There has been no moment of truth, no shock of realization that
the antics have to end. No one of any substance on the US right has stepped in to say: get a grip, people are dying here.

That is the mark of how deep the trouble is for the US - it is not just that Trump has treated the crisis merely as a way to feed tribal hatreds but that this behavior has become normalized. When the freak
show is live on TV every evening, and the star is boasting about his ratings, it is not really a freak show any more. For a very large and solid bloc of Americans, it is reality.

And this will get worse before it gets better. Trump has at least eight more months in power. In his inaugural address in 2017, he evoked "American carnage" and promised to make it stop. But now that the real carnage has arrived, he is reveling in it. He is in his element.

As things get worse, he will pump more hatred and falsehood, more death-wish defiance of reason and decency, into the groundwater. If a new administration succeeds him in 2021, it will have to clean up the toxic dump he leaves behind. If he is re-elected, toxicity will have become the lifeblood of American politics.

Either way, it will be a long time before the rest of the world can imagine America being great again.

To understand the trade war with China, you need to understand that
China at the moment is having a major slowdown economically. The stock
market is down 25%. Many banks are being bailed out by the government.
Everything and everyone in China is way over levered, and the economy
is therefore in a high risk position which the government was trying
to fix.  The trade war got in the way, forcing the government to
subsidize the smaller banks. China is loaning tens of billions to
countries like Pakistan to build ports and railroads and
infrastructure. Problem is, these countries have zero possible way to
ever repay these loans.  So now they are faced with stopping the
projects or asking the IMF to bail them out.

It is a mess for China and the countries who took the loans.  There is
starting to be pushback against China for this. So, Trump’s timing to
go after China is exactly right.  They are in a weakened position
right now. Ignore all the hype about how they could sell their $1.4
trillion of US Treasuries —to who???  Not going to happen.  The whole
world agrees China violates every rule on trade and steals IP.  Trump
is just the only one who is willing to take them on, with the rest of
the world cheering him on from the sidelines.  Now it appears the EU
is willing to cooperate with Trump and revise the WTO and to push
China on IP and other trade violations.  Something they were never
willing to do before.

Can 4% GDP growth continue?  Maybe. But 3.5% would be great.  Remember
the left, and the press saying in 2016 and early 2017,  2% was the new
normal maximum, and the US was at its peak and we faced stagflation,
economic decline, etc. 2% was the accepted number as what good growth
would be.  Larry Summers was right out there saying 4% was impossible.
Some in the mainstream media and Wall St said getting above 2% was
pure fantasy, and Trump was dreaming.

So, as I have said often, ignore the talking heads, and the mainstream
media.  They all have an agenda.  Almost none are objective.  The tax
bill and deregulation was a huge boost.  The left just can’t admit it.
There are even stories now in the press that 4% is really a bad
thing???  4% is great, it may not be 4% next quarter, but 3.5% would
be terrific.   If Trump really does a deal with the EU, Mexico and
Canada, and then Japan, 3.5%, or better, is very realistic.

Capital expenditures will ramp up further once the tariff issues
subside and that uncertainty goes away.  They say exports were hyped
due to pending tariffs, but to do that, inventories were drawn down,
so this quarter inventories will be rebuilt, pushing up GDP growth
upward.  The press does not want you to believe it because it means
the Republicans win in November, so they will try to convince you
otherwise.  Even my very liberal economist friends admit privately to
me that the economy is going to be booming for at least 6 more
quarters.  The key is to reelect Republicans to control Congress.

Keep in mind Maxine Waters is chair of the finance committee if the
Dems get control, and Nancy is speaker.  Think about that combo, and
the ability to get budgets and more tax reform done.  It should drive
you to the polls and to take all your friends with you to vote.  What
a trade: Trump, and 4% GDP,

or Maxine Waters.

If you want to understand Russia, and the whole gas pipeline issue---
gas and oil is 52% of Russia’s GDP.  The GDP of Russia is slightly
smaller than NY State, around $1.5 trillion. GDP per capita is only
$8,748 in 2017.  Far lower than in 2013.  We heard this first hand
when I was in Russia, but now the stats show it to be true.  The
standard of living in Russia is declining. 20% of the Russian budget
goes to weapons and the army.

So Trump is right - how can Germany build a new gas pipeline with
Russia which will fund more weapons spending, when they are supposedly
having sanctions because of weapons and Crimea.  It is nuts.  The gas
line will provide Russia billions of new cash flow for weapons which
are aimed at ----Germany.  But Merkel also thought letting in over 1
million Muslims was also a great idea until the voters rebelled, and
the rest of the EU voted right wing in response.

Reality is Russia is now in economic decline due to lower oil prices
and corruption.  Defense spending was reduced this year.  So what does
Merkel want to do – build the pipeline to pay them more badly needed
money.  Trump is not out of line for his comments.  The pipeline is
the same as Obama paying Iran $150 billion just as their economy was
tanking.  Truth is Russia cannot afford to wage a real war in Europe
now that Trump has forced NATO to materially up spending and
readiness.

If Obama was still in power Putin could take over Baltic states and
have only a few sanctions because under Obama NATO was militarily
unable to react.  That was why Putin felt he could go into Crimea with
no big problem.  Putin also knew he could continue his cyber war with
no real consequences under Obama.  Don’t believe the crap about Trump
favors Putin, or they have something on him.  It is more lefty
nonsense.  The US pays 71% of NATO costs.  Germany pays less than 1.2%
of their GDP for their own defense.  We pay far more for Germany’s
defense than Germany does, and they can afford to pay.

Trump is right for making this a major issue.  So in 2018, NATO and
the US are upping spending on defense and Russia cannot keep up.
Russia is forced to reduce spending because oil prices did not rise as
much as Putin needed.

Under Obama US defense spending went down from 2013 on, and Russia
went up a lot, and China even more.  Obama left us in very bad and
weak shape vs our main adversaries.  It was massive US defense
spending by Reagan vs Russia, that won the cold war.  The story now is
very similar vs Russia and Iran.  The best way to win a war is to far
out spend the bad guys until they fold with no shots being fired.  A
strong offensive capability and willingness to use it (missiles fired
at Syria) is the best defense.  Putin and Xi got the message.  Putin
blew it by favoring Trump.  The last thing he wanted was a much
stronger US military and stronger, capable NATO.

Iran’s GDP is $439 billion, less than that of 14 states.  And now it
is tanking. Obama gave them $150 billion - 34% of their GDP.  Iran
cannot compete with US and Israel.  Israel is much smaller by
population and has a GDP of $320 billion.  With sanctions Trump is
imposing, Iran is in real economic trouble, and cannot afford a war
with us, the Sunnis and Israel.

The Obama nuke deal just empowered Iran to go on an expansion into
Syria, Iraq, Yemen  and Lebanon.  Now Israel and the US are pushing
back with the help of the Sunnis.  Reimposing sanctions will severely
cripple Iran and they will likely try to attack shipping in the
straits and the Red Sea.  It will end very badly for them now that the
Sunnis, Israel and the US are teamed up, the US military is being
rebuilt, Sadr is pushing back on Iran trying to control Iraq, and the
Iranian people are protesting and ready to revolt.

The entire Mideast situation is going to change by year end when
sanctions go back into effect.  Iran will run out of money to continue
their expansion.  What is astonishing is Merkel and the EU prefer to
try to get around the US sanctions and trade with Iran instead of
cooperating with us and destroying the regime.  And the press thinks
Trump acts badly with the EU???  The EU doesn’t pay for their own
defense and they favor Iran.

The US economy is on a roll.  It will be strong well into 2019 and
maybe into 2020.  The stock market will go up. Just be patient.  Bond
prices will decline further.  All equities will continue to work.
They will resolve trade in the next 90 days.  Before November. NAFTA
will get revised. WTO will get revised.  Putin is in no economic shape
to invade anyone, or do another Syria.  He is now motivated to try to
work with Trump.  If oil prices stay around where they are, Russia is
hurting. Q3 GDP will be over 3%.  This is like under Reagan.

Trump will bury Putin in military spending and Putin will have to
concede on some issues.  It will just take time.  It took Reagan three
years.  If the result is no pipeline, Russia is in more trouble.  Farm
products in the EU will still be a big problem.  Macron cannot give in
on this and stay in office.  From here on it is all about China, and
how Xi can give in and not lose face.

Bottom line, a very strong US economy and big defense spending will
overwhelm Russia and Iran. A strong economy, allowing big defense
spending, matters a lot in terms of geopolitics. The price of oil is
strategic, not just economic.

Nicky Haley will be elected president in 2024   She will be the first
woman president. Mark it down

A Quick Foreign Policy Lesson.

This narrative is credited to Jack Wheeler.  Most of you have read his stuff.  He has a remarkable career in events involving foreign policy and shoots straight. You may not necessarily agree with all of these comments, be assured his viewpoints and conclusions do reach the highest levels of our government.  SF,Droopy

 (P. S. After reading it a second time, I highly recommend this as a MUST READ. He has information in here that has not been made public to the American people and reflects somebody's good intelligence work.)

THIS IS A POWERFUL AND WELL PRESENTED DISCUSSION  ON WHAT USA WORLD POLICIES SHOULD BE, AND WHAT AMERICAN LEADERS NEED TO UNDERSTAND AND ACT ON IN THE NEAR FUTURE, AND WAS WRITTEN BY Dr. Jack Wheeler who was an advisor to President Reagan, including the policy leading to the winning of the "cold war".

Russia:
Putin is an ersatz macho-man, all hat and no karovi. Russia's navy is made of rust. Russia's ill-trained army of drunkards couldn't conquer Romania. Russian male life expectancy is lower than that of Bangladesh.  Russia is a mafiacracy with a doomed economy dependent on oil & gas exports that fracking in Europe & the US will make uncompetitive. Dos vidanya.

 China:
No wives, no water, no banks - and a hyper-dangerous military. Much of China is uninhabited - deserts, mountains, and wastelands. Habitable China is about the size of the US east of the Mississippi, with over a billion people squeezed into it.  These people live compacted along 7 major rivers making them vulnerable to water-borne pathogens. Northern China is turning into a waterless dust bowl. Scores of millions of Chinese men will never get married due to the Chicom's idiotic one-child policy and resultant mass female infanticide.
100 million bachelors are explosively dangerous. Chinese state banks are insolvent after going on a post-2008 loan binge with debt and credit in China now (according to the IMF) above 200% of GDP. A sharp economic contraction (increasingly likely) plus all those angry unmarried men equals war, the history-honored scapegoat diversion of tyrants.
The obvious Chicom choice for war would be Taiwan. But the Formosa Strait is 100 miles wide and China has no amphibious capacity. Taiwan is on the northern rim of the South China Sea, rapidly becoming one of the most jeopardous flash points in the world. Bordered by Taiwan, the Philippines, Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia, Singapore, Vietnam, and China, over 50% by value of the worlds shipping traverses it – and China claims all of it, the entire South China Sea, as its own territorial waters. This cannot stand. China must be publicly informed by the next president that the South China Sea is international waters, period, there will be no discussion or negotiation. What is to be negotiated is the cooperative exploitation of what resources, such as oil, it may contain. No amount of Chicom bullying and saber rattling will do any good.  Every other country on the sea will join the US in this - and so will India and Japan.

Further, the Chicoms need to grasp that any aggression of theirs in the South China Sea will be naval only, and thus does nothing to occupy all their angry young bachelors. They need to go some place, a place with lots of water and lots of room for them, a place where the women prefer them to the local men who are drunks and beat up their wives, ideally a place once belonging to China but stolen by a foreign aggressor - so to get it back would give them a mission. Maybe even a wife.

There is such a place. It's called Siberia - specifically what China called its Maritime Provinces and Russia, after it seized them in 1860, calls the Russian Far East. The longest border to defend in the world is that between China and Russia!

It's only a matter of time, at most a decade or two, before Beijing converts most all of eastern Siberia into Chinese Siberia. There is simply no way a dying Russia can hold on to it. Might as well divert the Chicoms toward it and away from Taiwan and the South China Sea.

North Korea:
The Norks have no nukes. The half-kiloton yield in their tests means they failed to make weapons-grade plutonium. So they are no threat to us. They are a threat to South Korea with 11,000 artillery tubes aimed at the 17 million people of Greater Seoul. There is no need for American soldiers to be hostages to this.  South Korea is a rich country with a powerful military capable of taking care of itself. We do not need to be there any longer.

India:
The world's largest democracy is prickly, but the only country in Asia capable of standing up to China.  The Chicoms are building naval bases in India's Indian Ocean neighbors such as Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Burma, which they call their "String of Pearls" around India's neck. India is countering with a growing alliance with China's ancient neighbor enemy, Vietnam.
The next president should build on President Bush's initiative for military and economic ties between the US and India. That could include a joint India-US naval base in Cam Ranh Bay in Vietnam on the South China Sea.  The Vietnamese would welcome us. Among nations, there are no permanent enemies, only permanent interests.
The Great Game of the 19th century was between the Russian and British Empires colliding in Asia.  The 21st century players of this game are China and India.

It's in our interests to be on India's side.

Pakistan/Afghanistan
Both are make-believe countries with no legitimate rationale for sovereignty. The key problem in both is Pakistan's "government within a government" spy agency, the ISI - Inter-Services Intelligence. It is radical hate-America jihadi Islamist. It created and is in the heroin business with the Taliban. The first necessary condition towards any solution in this region is its dismantlement.

The other key problem is our State Department's anaphylactic allergy to regime and border changes. The best solution for Afghanistan would be for it to cease to exist as presently constituted. Actually, it is the same for Pakistan.

The Baluchis of southern Afghanistan and southwest Pakistan want their own Baluchistan (they have a marvelous harbor and the biggest gold deposits in the world according to BHP Biliton). They'd be joined by the Baluchis of southeast Iran and most likely by the Sindhis of adjoining Sind in southern Pakistan with the big city of Karachi.

The Tajiks of northern Afghanistan do not want their lives run by Pushtuns.  They'd much rather secede and join Tajikistan - which wants our help to stabilize and protect it from Russia. The Pushtuns straddle the Af-Pak border. They dream of being united in a separate Pushtunistan. Pakistan's ruling group, the Punjabis, would retain the Punjab.

But basically, as with the Koreas, this no longer should be our problem to solve. Af-Pak should be India's problems to solve – Pak nukes, after all, are aimed at India, not us. There is no real nation to build in Afghanistan, and our troops have no purpose dying for it.  Terrorist threats are the business of the CIA and spec-ops teams, not the Marines or Army. Again, we need to ally with India and assist them in what is their problem, not ours, to solve.

Iran:
This week we learned that Iran's government planned an act of war against us in our own capital.  It is hard to overestimate the number of problems in the world that would be solved with this government gone. And that's the solution: regime change. Apply a straightforward Reagan Doctrine strategy to overthrow Iran's mullah regime by sponsoring - with money and weapons - insurrections throughout the country.

Of Iran's 78 million, over 20 million are ethnic Azeri - almost three times the number of Azeris in Azerbaijan next door, whom they would love to join in a Greater Azerbaijan. There are at least eight million Kurds, who would fight tooth and nail against their Tehran oppressors if we gave them support. There are three million Ahwazi Arabs who populate Iran's oil patch, Kuhzestan, across the border from southern Iraq.
And of course there are the Persians themselves, some 33 million, whose mass street protests have been so brutally suppressed (and which the current president did not lift a finger or say a word to support).

A president determined to effect regime change in Iran would succeed quickly. The world's main state sponsor of Islamic terrorism would be no more.  Iraq would be free to flourish, Syria would be quickly liberated, the threat to the Saudi and Gulf oil fields would be removed, and of course, Iran's nuclear program would be destroyed in the process (Israeli spec-ops would see to that). It's a long list of positives and few if any negatives. All it needs is a president with the courage of Ronald Reagan.

Israel:
The pre-1967 demarcations our current president demands Israel return to were not borders - they were cease-fire lines where Israel was able to stop the Arab invasions after declaring its independence in 1948.  The Six-Day War recaptured Israel's legitimate territory, and that territory, including Golan and Judea-Samaria (the so-called "West Bank") should remain so. The Palestinians need to be told to STFU, that they no longer will be coddled and treated like spoiled children. They will recognize the state of Israel as legitimate and Jewish, or they can move to the Sinai, where Egypt will give them a Palestinian State since the Egyptians love Palestinians so much (the dirty secret is that the rest of the Arab world despises Palestinians and calls them rafida, Arabic for the N-word).

Arabs and Euroweenies who object can shove their Nazi Anti-Semitism up their noses.
That's the way a pro-American pro-Israel president would deal with Israel and the Arabs.

Turkey:
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan (air-doh-wan) is an Islamist megalomaniac fantasizing about recreating the Ottoman Caliphate. He is constantly threatening Israel, pretending his high school navy is a match for Israel's NFL navy. Yet he has gutted the Turkish officer corps and filled it with incompetent stooges. Erdogan needs a US president to explain to him that any duke-out between Turkey and Israel will result in his total humiliation, causing his overthrow and Turkey's expulsion from NATO.

Islam:
In addition to the above re: Israel and Iran, the next president should make a clear and public distinction between Islam the religion and Islamism the political ideology masquerading as a religion.  That Islamism will no longer be accorded the respect due an actual religion but treated with the contempt due any fascist ideology such as Communism or Nazism.

The next president should draw a distinct line between all variants of Islamism, such as Wahhabis, Deobandis, Khomeini Shias, and other forms of Jihadi and Sharia Islam, with peaceful and tolerant forms of Islam such as practiced by Sufis and Ismailis. It is with the latter that the future of Islam lies.
And for any Moslem in the US who agitates for Sharia law, he is welcome to do so - in a country that practices it, not in America. As for Islamic terrorism, its practitioners should receive a drone strike -a policy of the current president that should be continued.

The current president has, however, utterly failed to champion the rights and religious freedom of Christians in the Moslem world. A truly American foreign policy would do so.

Europe:
It's Old Europe, now known as the Eurozone, serving as an object lesson of the scam of the welfare state versus New Europe, the liberated former colonies of the Soviet Union who learned the hard way the evils of socialism and the virtues of capitalism.
A new president would focus attention on the Baltics, Poland, Czechia, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Albania, Croatia, and Slovenia. And he would politely educate the lands of Old Europe on welfare state socialism as a religion of envy. Ireland is already figuring this out and is recovering thereby.
Mexico:
As Radio Free Europe and Radio Liberty significantly helped bring freedom to Soviet Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union, the next president could institute a Radio Free Mexico (including satellite television and web sites) teaching free market and small business economics to Mexicans.

Mexico is the land of crony corrupt corporate fascist capitalism. As a result, most Mexicans live in medieval poverty while the richest man in the world is a Mexican - Carlos Slim - whose wealth was gained with state-protected monopolies.  A true free market economy would enable Mexicans to become prosperous in their own country.

The only real solution to the US illegal alien problem is for those aliens to want to stay in or go back to their own country where they are free to prosper.
In the meantime, the next president can use the National Guard, seriously armed, to secure our borders.  And if drone strikes are so good at killing terrorists, they should be equally good at killing leaders of the Mexican drug cartels.
America and the World: The next president's foreign policy should be based on the opposite of the current president.  The current president is embarrassed to be an American. The next president should be bursting with pride to be an American. The current president has a compulsion to apologize for America, a compulsion to appease those who envy America and her historically unparalleled success.  The next president should feel America has nothing whatever to apologize for, and could not care less about those who envy her.

The next president, as opposed to the current one, should have no qualms in laughing at the lunacy of Warmism, the theory of human CO2 production causing global doom. Warmism is the Fascist Left's replacement for Marxism as a rationale for their seizure of power over our lives.
CO2 is a trace greenhouse gas (95% of the world's atmospheric greenhouse gases is water vapor), and our human production is a trace of that. One tenth of one percent of greenhouse gases is made by man.  Humans do not cause global warming, period.
Explaining and rejecting this removes the obstacles to the world's most game-changing technology today - hydraulic fracturing or fracking of shale gas and shale oil deposits.  Once the political shackles on this technology are removed, America will not only be fully energy independent, but a major energy exporter to the world. The crony capitalist scam of "renewable energy" will be dead –no more Solyndras, wind farm boondoggles, and ethanol subsidies.

Oh, Russia's energy stranglehold on Europe will disappear and Israel will be an energy exporter.  Exposing the Fascist Left's hoax of Warmism and fully utilizing fracking technology will enable America and much of the world to live in an era of cheap and abundant energy - providing the material foundation for an ever-growing widespread prosperity.

Lastly, the next president needs to explain that America really does need to be the world's policeman. As America apologizes and retreats from the world, the wolves emerge from the forest, from China to Iran.  Only America can keep the world's wolves at bay.
We do not need to nation-build. We do not need our soldiers in Afghanistan. We do not need our soldiers in South Korea. We do not need our soldiers in Europe - Russian tanks (however many can still run) are not going to charge through the Fulda Gap. Once we effect regime change in Iran, we will not need our soldiers in Iraq.
We do need a strong, well-equipped and trained military, an army, an air force, and coast guard.  But what we need most of all is an immensely strong navy, along with special forces - Marines, Rangers, SEALs, Delta, et al.

Without that, the world's wolf packs run wild and unchecked.

Fw: Fwd: 1400 years of inbreeding - interesting article about Muslims

1400 years of inbreeding have severely damaged the Muslim Gene Pool
Bryan Fischer-Focal Point

A huge Muslim problem: Inbreeding,   By Bryan Fischer
1400 years of inbreeding have severely damaged the Muslim Gene Pool
Nicolai Sennels is a Danish psychologist who has done extensive research into a little-known problem in the Muslim world: the disastrous results of Muslim inbreeding brought about by the marriage of first-cousins.

This practice, which has been prohibited in the Judeo-Christian tradition since the days of Moses, was sanctioned by Muhammad and has been going on now for 50 generations (1,400 years) in the Muslim world.

This practice of inbreeding will never go away in the Muslim world, since Muhammad is the ultimate example and authority on all matters, including marriage.

The massive inbreeding in Muslim culture may well have done virtually irreversible damage to the Muslim gene pool, including extensive damage to its intelligence, sanity, and health.

According to Sennels, close to half of all Muslims in the world are inbred. In Pakistan, the numbers approach 70%. Even in England, more than half of Pakistani immigrants are married to their first cousins, and in Denmark the number of inbred Pakistani immigrants is around 40%.

The numbers are equally devastating in other important Muslim countries: 67% in Saudi Arabia, 64% in Jordan, and Kuwait, 63% in Sudan, 60% in Iraq, and 54% in the United Arab Emirates and Qatar.

According to the BBC, this Pakistani, Muslim-inspired inbreeding is thought to explain the probability that a British Pakistani family is more than 13 times as likely to have children with recessive genetic disorders. While Pakistanis are responsible for 3% of the births in the UK, they account for 33% of children with genetic birth defects.

The risk of what are called autosomal recessive disorders such as cystic fibrosis and spinal muscular atrophy is 18 times higher and the risk of death due to malformations is 10 times higher. Other negative consequences of inbreeding include a 100% increase in the risk of stillbirths and a 50% increase in the possibility that a child will die during labor.

Lowered intellectual capacity is another devastating consequence of Muslim marriage patterns. According to Sennels, research shows that children of consanguineous marriages lose 10-16 points off their IQ and that social abilities develop much slower in inbred babies.
The risk of having an IQ lower than 70, the official demarcation for being classified as "retarded," increases by an astonishing 400% among children of cousin marriages.
(Similar effects were seen in the Pharaonic dynasties in ancient Egypt and in the British royal family, where inbreeding was the norm for a significant period of time.)

In Denmark, non-Western immigrants are more than 300% more likely to fail the intelligence test required for entrance into the Danish army.

Sennels says that "the ability to enjoy and produce knowledge and abstract thinking is simply lower in the Islamic world." He points out that the Arab world translates just 330 books every year, about 20% of what Greece alone does.

In the last 1,200 years of Islam, just 100,000 books have been translated into Arabic, about what Spain does in a single year. Seven out of 10 Turks have never even read a book.

Sennels points out the difficulties this creates for Muslims seeking to succeed in the West. "A lower IQ, together with a religion that denounces critical thinking, surely makes it harder for many Muslims to have success in our high-tech knowledge societies."

Only nine Muslims have every won the Nobel Prize, and five of those were for the "Peace Prize." According to Nature magazine, Muslim countries produce just 10% of the world average when it comes to scientific research (measured by articles per million inhabitants).

In Denmark, Sennels' native country, Muslim children are grossly over-represented among children with special needs. One-third of the budget for Danish schools is consumed by special education, and anywhere from 51% to 70% of retarded children with physical
handicaps in Copenhagen have an immigrant background.
Learning ability is severely affected as well. Studies indicated that 64% of school children with Arabic parents are still illiterate after 10 years in the Danish school system. The immigrant drop-out rate in Danish high schools is twice that of the native-born.

Mental illness is also a product. The closer the blood relative, the higher the risk of schizophrenic illness. The increased risk of insanity may explain why more than 40% of the patients in Denmark's biggest ward for clinically insane criminals have an immigrant background.

The U.S. is not immune. According to Sennels, "One study based on 300,000 Americans shows that the majority of Muslims in the USA have a lower income, are less educated, and have worse jobs than the population as a whole."

Sennels concludes:
There is no doubt that the wide spread tradition of first cousin marriages among Muslims has harmed the gene pool among Muslims.
Because Muslims' religious beliefs prohibit marrying non-Muslims and thus prevents them from adding fresh genetic material to their population, the genetic damage done to their gene pool since their prophet allowed first cousin marriages 1,400 years ago are most likely massive. (This has produced) overwhelming direct and indirect human and societal consequences.

Bottom line: Islam is not simply a benign and morally equivalent alternative to the Judeo-Christian tradition. As Sennels points out, the first and biggest victims of Islam are Muslims. Simple Christian compassion for Muslims and a common-sense desire to protect Western civilization from the ravages of Islam dictate a vigorous opposition to the spread of this dark and dangerous religion. These stark realities must be taken into account when we establish public polices dealing with immigration from Muslim countries and the building of mosques in the U.S.
Let's hope America wakes up before a blind naivete about the reality of Islam destroys what remains of our Judeo-Christian culture and our domestic tranquility.

So, you don’t think Big Pharma’s profits are excessive?  OR they don’’t influence politicians too much?  Read this artcle:

The U.S. Congress has an approval rating at less than 5%.  In fact, porn, polygamy and the BP oil spill rate higher than Congress.  Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari's rating within his country in 2011 was twice as high as the U.S. Congress current approval rating.   And this was before the New York Times shined a light on their shady dealings with pharmaceutical giant Amgen that cost the American people more than 1/2 billion dollars.

Millions of dollars spent by Amgen, who has 74 lobbyists in Washington, kissing up to members of congress has come back to them in a nice gift...with a bow.  Our trusted public servants were happy to help Amgen by delaying price restraints on a class of drugs used by kidney dialysis patients.  They inserted this paragraph into the fiscal cliff bill and, behind closed doors, approved it.  The delay will cost the Medicare program (and your tax dollars) $500 million over the next two years.

Note that Senator Max Baucus (D, Montana) and Orrin Hatch (R, Utah) supported this shady transaction.  Both senators have political and financial ties to Amgen, as does Mitch McConnell, the senate minority leader, who also influenced the deal.  These three senators received substantial contributions from Amgen's PAC, $68,000 to Baucus, $59,000 to Hatch and $73,000 to McConnell.

If this isn't enough to mimic flu symptoms, Amgen had pleaded guilty a few weeks before and agreed to pay CRIMINAL and civil penalties of $762 million, the largest fine ever for a biotech company.  You would think that would make them persona non gratis on capitol hill but no...they have friends in high places!

Amgen's CEO, Kevin Sharer's pay package is $21 million.  That doesn't include his personal use of Amgen's jet ($247,743) a car and driver and $15,000 for financial planning services.  After all, with that kind of money, you need to find lots of tax loopholes to keep it.  How a company can plead guilty to CRIMINAL activity and then get the taxpayers to pay 75% of the fine is amazing.  I guess Corporations really are "people"...special people with friends in the Senate.

The next time you wonder about the price of healthcare in this Country, think of our policymakers and how crooked and dishonest they are.  The Fiscal Cliff was a Fiscal Gift for Amgen

George W. Bush speech after capture of Saddam:
The success of yesterday's mission is a tribute to our men and women now serving in Iraq . The operation was based on the superb work of intelligence analysts who found the dictator's footprints in a vast country. The operation was carried out with skill and precision by abrave fighting force .  Our servicemen and women and our coalition allies have faced many dangers in the hunt for members of the fallen regime, and in their effort to bring hope and freedom to the Iraqi people. Their work continues, and so do the risks. Today, on behalf of the nation , I thank the members of our Armed Forces and I congratulate 'em.

Barack Obama speech after killing of bin Laden:
And so shortly after taking office, I directed Leon Panetta , the director of the CIA , to make the killing or capture of bin Laden the top priority of our war against al Qaeda, even as we continued our broader efforts to disrupt, dismantle, and defeat his network. Then, last August, after years of painstaking work by our intelligence community, I was briefed on a possible lead to bin Laden. It was far from certain, and it took many months to run this thread to ground. I met repeatedly with my national security team as we developed more information about the possibility that we had located bin Laden hiding within a compound deep inside of Pakistan . And finally, last week, I determined that we had enough intelligence to take action, and authorized an operation to get Osama bin Laden and bring him to justice. Today, at my direction , the United States launched a targeted operation against that compound in Abbottabad , Pakistan .

Fw: Fw: Islam's Nowhere Men...

Islam's Nowhere Men

Millions like Faisal Shahzad are unsettled by a modern world they can neither master nor reject.

By FOUAD AJAMI
Mr. Ajami, a professor at Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies and a senior fellow at Stanford University's Hoover Institution, is the author of "The Foreigner's Gift" (Free Press, 2007).

'A Muslim has no nationality except his belief," the intellectual godfather of the Islamists, Egyptian Sayyid Qutb, wrote decades ago. Qutb's "children" are everywhere now; they carry the nationalities of foreign lands and plot against them. The Pakistani born Faisal Shahzad is a devotee of Sayyid Qutb's doctrine, and Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, the Fort Hood shooter, was another.
Qutb was executed by the secular dictatorship of Gamal Abdel Nasser in 1966. But his thoughts and legacy endure. Globalization, the shaking up of continents, the ease of travel, and the doors for immigration flung wide open by Western liberal societies have given Qutb's worldview greater power and relevance. What can we make of a young man like Shahzad working for Elizabeth Arden, receiving that all-American degree, the MBA, jogging in the evening in Bridgeport , then plotting mass mayhem in Times Square ?
The Islamists are now within the gates. They fled the fires and the failures of the Islamic world but brought the ruin with them. They mock national borders and identities. A parliamentary report issued by Britain 's House of Commons on the London Underground bombings of July 7, 2005 lays bare this menace and the challenge it poses to a system of open borders and modern citizenship.
The four men who pulled off those brutal attacks, the report noted, "were apparently well integrated into British society." Three of them were second generation Britons born in West Yorkshire . The oldest, a 30-year-old father of a 14-month-old infant, "appeared to others as a role model to young people." One of the four, 22 years of age, was a boy of some privilege; he owned a red Mercedes given to him by his father and was given to fashionable hairstyles and designer clothing. This young man played cricket on the eve of the bombings. The next day, the day of the terror, a surveillance camera filmed him in a store. "He buys snacks, quibbles with the cashier over his change, looks directly at the CCTV camera, and leaves." Two of the four, rather like Faisal Shahzad, had spent time in Pakistan before they pulled off their deed.
A year after the London terror, hitherto tranquil Canada had its own encounter with the new Islamism. A ring of radical Islamists were charged with plotting to attack targets in southern Ontario with fertilizer bombs. A school-bus driver was one of the leaders of these would-be jihadists. A report by the Canadian Security Intelligence Service unintentionally echoed the British House of Commons findings. "These individuals are part of Western society, and their 'Canadianness' makes detection more difficult. Increasingly, we are learning of more and more extremists that are homegrown. The implications of this shift are profound."
And indeed they are, but how can "Canadianness" withstand the call of the faith and the obligation of jihad? I think of one Egyptian Islamist in London , a man by the name of Yasser Sirri, who gave the matter away some six years ago: "The whole Arab world was dangerous for me. I went to London ," he observed.
In Egypt , three sentences had been rendered against him: one condemned him to 25 years of hard labor, the second to 15 years, and the third to death for plotting to assassinate a prime minister. Sirri had fled Egypt to Yemen , then to the Sudan . But it was better and easier in bilad al-kufar, the lands of unbelief. There is wealth in the West and there are the liberties afforded by an open society.
In an earlier age—I speak here autobiographically, and not of some vanished world long ago but of the 1960s when I made my way to the United States —the world was altogether different. Mass migration from the Islamic world had not begun. The immigrants who turned up in Western lands were few, and they were keen to put the old lands, and their feuds and attachments, behind them. Islam was then a religion of Afro-Asia; it had not yet put down roots in Western Europe and the New World . Air travel was costly and infrequent.
The new lands, too, made their own claims, and the dominant ideology was one of assimilation. The national borders were real, and reflected deep civilizational differences. It was easy to tell where "the East" ended and Western lands began. Postmodernist ideas had not made their appearance. Western guilt had not become an article of faith in the West itself.
Nowadays the Islamic faith is portable. It is carried by itinerant preachers and imams who transmit its teachings to all corners of the world, and from the safety and plenty of the West they often agitate against the very economic and moral order that sustains them. Satellite television plays its part in this new agitation, and the Islam of the tele-preachers is invariably one of damnation and fire. >From tranquil, banal places ( Dubai and Qatar ), satellite television offers an incendiary version of the faith to younger immigrants unsettled by a modern civilization they can neither master nor reject.
And home, the Old Country, is never far. Pakistani authorities say Faisal Shahzad made 13 visits to Pakistan in the last seven years. This would have been unthinkable three or four decades earlier. Shahzad lived on the seam between the Old Country and the New. The path of citizenship he took gave him the precious gift of an American passport but made no demands on him.
From Pakistan comes a profile of Shahzad's father, a man of high military rank, and of property and standing: He was "a man of modern thinking and of the modern age," it was said of him in his ancestral village of Mohib Banda in recent days. That arc from a secular father to a radicalized son is, in many ways, the arc of Pakistan since its birth as a nation-state six decades ago. The secular parents and the radicalized children is also a tale of Islam, that broken pact with modernity, the mothers who fought to shed the veil and the daughters who now wish to wear the burqa in Paris and Milan .
In its beginnings, the Pakistan of Faisal Shahzad's parents was animated by the modern ideals of its founder, Muhammad Ali Jinnah. In that vision, Pakistan was to be a state for the Muslims of the subcontinent, but not an Islamic state in the way it ordered its political and cultural life. The bureaucratic and military elites who dominated the state, and defined its culture, were a worldly breed. The British Raj had been their formative culture.
But the world of Pakistan was recast in the 1980s under a zealous and stern military leader, Zia ul-Haq. Zia offered Pakistan Islamization and despotism. He had ridden the jihad in Afghanistan next door to supreme power; he brought the mullahs into the political world, and they, in turn, brought the militants with them.

This was the Pakistan in which young Faisal Shahzad was formed; the world of his parents was irretrievable. The maxim that Pakistan is governed by a trinity—Allah, army, America—gives away this confusion: The young man who would do his best to secure an American education before succumbing to the call of the jihad is a man in the grip of a deep schizophrenia. The overcrowded cities of Islam—from Karachi and Casablanca to Cairo—and those cities in Europe and North America where the Islamic diaspora is now present in force have untold multitudes of men like Faisal Shahzad.
This is a long twilight war, the struggle against radical Islamism. We can't wish it away. No strategy of winning "hearts and minds," no great outreach, will bring this struggle to an end. America can't conciliate these furies. These men of nowhere—Faisal Shahzad, Nidal Malik Hasan, the American-born renegade cleric Anwar Awlaki now holed up in Yemen and their likes—are a deadly breed of combatants in this new kind of war. Modernity both attracts and unsettles them. America is at once the object of their dreams and the scapegoat onto which they project their deepest malignancies.

Mr. Ajami, a professor at Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies and a senior fellow at Stanford University's Hoover Institution, is the author of "The Foreigner's Gift" (Free Press, 2007).

As a Christian, I know Who is in charge, that we in the West are reaping what we have allowed and sown.  Also, I believe God is of Mercy and Grace.  One of his conditional statements is clear: "If my people, who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways,  then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land."  2 Chronicles. 7:14
