Bet he'd change his tune if someone told him the DoE was actually created to handle the production and maintenance of nuclear weapons.

Why aren't these idiots complaining about how Dickhead Cheney had big Oil & Gas lobbyists write the energy policy for the DOE??? IF these fools want to whine about gov't waste, what about the cronyism during W's admin, where completely inadequate dolts were appointed to high level positions, where they were paid well to be utterly incompetent?

Oh yeah, that's right: ignore FACTS when rightards are in power and focus on something that allegedly happened under a Democrat 30 years ago.

Makes sense.

Besides which, contards laughed and made fun of Carter's attempts to regulate energy consumption, esp. w/cars using gas. They all had a lot of fun saying what a dolt he was, but what's going on now? Carter was correct, and if Detroit automakers had listened to him maybe the gov't wouldn't be reduced to bailing them out now.

Fools and the foolish junk & lies they spread.

"AND NOW, IT'S 2009 -- 32 YEARS LATER"

...of which 20 were spent under Republican Presidents, all of whom either had direct links to the oil industry, and/or had VP's with direct links to the oil industry. Many of the remaining 12 years were spent under an obstructioninst Republican congress.

Nope, I can't IMAGINE why more progress on oil independence wasn't made...

Republicans may be able to win elections (with the massive help of corporate lobbies and a complicit right-wing corporate media) but they hate the petty details of actual governing.

They'd much rather cut taxes for their CEO buddies, wage eternal war, and loot the living shit out of the treasury.

And by 'gubmint', they mean any and all social-democratic programs. They won't rest until all aid, opportunity, and progress programs are destroyed.

Think they're shooting for the Gilded Age? Hell, they're shooting for feudalism. THAT'S how reactionary they've become.

Whatever his other faults, Carter did a great job with energy policy. The guy put solar panels on the White House roof, for cryin' out loud. (Guess who took them off? Reagan, of course.)

The trouble with policy is there's an element of trust to it. You make a rule or establish a goal, you have to be able to trust that after you're gone, it'll still be met. That, of course, never happens.
