We shall survive!
The President-elect won the election with less than 40% of the popular vote but had the majority of electoral votes. The Republican Party had put forth a candidate to win several crucial states that could swing the electoral college. The election was a bitter one with the Democratic Party fractured between two candidates. The incoming President received so many death threats that he chose to arrive in Washington in secrecy. The security for the inauguration was the tightest ever with troops stationed on buildings throughout the day. This was an unprecedented amount of protection for any President-elect. Many members of Congress chose not to attend the ceremony.Despite all this, Abraham Lincoln was sworn in as our 16th president on March 4, 1861.

Contextual differences for the narrow-minded:
Lincoln won the plurality
Lincoln won a larger percentage of the electoral college
Lincoln carried what are today predominantly "Blue States" (e.g. New England, California, Oregon)
Lincoln drew larger crowds than Trump ever dreamed of following the inaugurations
There's a lot of other stuff including which side the racists support, but I'm sure RWD doesn't see race at all.
You can stop pretending, RWD, deep down you really hate Lincoln.
In 1860, conservatives were 100% democrat and liberals were nearly 100% republican.
The names may change, but the ideology does not.
And what was it, about six weeks later, the Civil War started?
I mean, sure, the US *survived*, but I'm not sure this is the best example RWD could have chosen.
New England has never been a State in these here 50 United States of America.
Trump drew more people for his inauguration than Abe.
