A contrast worth considering

A guy looked at my Corvette the other day and said "I wonder how many people could have been fed for the money that sports car cost."

"I replied I am not sure", "it fed a lot of families in Bowling Green, Kentucky who built it, it fed the people who make the tires, it fed the people who made the components that went into it, it fed the people in the copper mine who mined the copper for the wires, it fed people in Decatur IL
, at Caterpillar who make the trucks that haul the copper ore. It fed the trucking people who hauled it from the plant to the dealer and fed the people working at the dealership and their families. BUT,... I have to admit, I guess I really don't know how many people it fed."

That is the difference between capitalism and welfare mentality. When you buy something, you put money in people's pockets, and give them dignity for their skills.
When you give someone something for nothing, you rob them of their dignity and self worth.

Capitalism is freely giving your money in exchange for something of value.
Socialism is taking your money against your will and shoving something down your throat that you never asked for.

I've decided I can't be politically correct anymore. (I never was, actually)

Duly note the bogusness of this bit of doggeral rightwing propaganda. Yes, purchasing an expensive toy does help to create jobs for people. I don't believe anyone on the so-called "left" would argue with that.

But this smug piece is implying the usual trope that liberals are just jealous of the rich, while not realizing how "valuable" they are for their vaunted purchasing power. That's pretty lame, and the simple ability of being able to buy expensive stuff doesn't make you some sort of saint. It completely and totally ignores how the wealthy came to be that way and the many and numerous ways that they are ripping off the 99% to enable their wealth. But, trivial details, I'm sure.

This also totally distorts and is very dishonest about what both capitalism and socialism really are. Of course, what someone like Bernie Sanders advocates for is Democratic Socialisim, which is not at all what this lying POS indicates.

It's quite something how this lie about socialism depicts it as something that's "shoving something down your throat that you never asked for." WTF? Yeah, right... not really.

Yet another day ending in "y" in conservaworld where lies are the currency of the realm.

I like corvettes though I've come to meet some owners of them who are doucehbags, but I digress since this "corvette owner" is just hypothetical.

Interesting that the supply-side ( trickle down ) message this is trying to extol actually lays the ground work for showing the superiority of demand-side economics of a large working class nourished by gainful able to drive the economy better than the spending of the 1-percent...but then never quite puts the pieces together. The democratic socialism of Bernie Sanders would provide for the latter much better than the "free market" capitalism practiced by the republicans and corporate democrats like the Clintons. Instead we get the binary thinking of troglodytes like the penner of this screed who see no nuance in any of this: anything not bare-knuckled "free market" capitalism must be cawwmee soshulism. [ sic ]

I have to chuckle, and the reason I put "free market" in quotes because the current brand of capitalism being practiced is a hybrid skewed toward the interests of the 1-percent. In turn, what we really have is a system that privatizes the gains while socializing the losses.

Finally, an ultimate irony remains: I'll bet the protagonist in this piece ( the author? ) supports politicians that work tirelessly to offshore the employees in the industries mentioned. Anything for a buck.

I'll say this though, I'll hand it to Trump for recognizing the trade issue as a major concern for us in the working class, and is the _only_ reason I voted for him ( Well that, and to stick it to the corporate ( DNC / third-way ) wing of the democratic party.

It's too bad that RWD doesn't support union labor. You would think he would, since he's all for people supporting themselves through the dignity of their work.

Instead, RWD just licks the boots of Trump and the other rich hucksters who feed him one lie after the next. For instance, RWD really seems to think Trump is going to bring jobs back to America -- in spite of the fact that everything Trump has ever done (not said, DONE) is about moving jobs overseas and stealing from the workers in this country.

After watching this happen long enough, I have to start believing RWD just isn't very bright.

I've got students who voted for Trump seriously believing that he would bring jobs back. And then I have other students, Evangelical students, who voted for him believing he was "pro-life." And finally I have students who voted for him because they honestly thought he was on their side -- the side of the working poor. (This last is just stunningly ludicrous.)

All of these students (along with the rest of us) stand to be hurt by this budget Trump proposes. My family will be hurt less than any of my students, obviously, at least financially. We have good insurance, we have good jobs, our kid has an excellent scholarship and wealthy grandparents who will pay for her education.

Voting for a conman like Trump, under the delusional belief that he would do what he said -- help the working poor, return America to some fantasy state of moral rectitude your preacher promised existed, bring back manufacturing jobs -- I was probably wrong to say this meant the Right wasn't very bright.

It's really nothing to do with intelligence. It's willful ignorance. It's a deliberate denial of facts on the ground.

And, of course, there are those who voted for Trump out of nothing but hate -- a desire to hurt those liberals, any way they could. The haters we will always have with us.

I'd feel a great deal more sorry for those who voted for Trump if they were the only ones being harmed by him. Sadly, it's my beautiful country they are destroying.

delagar, why are you shirking your duty to PAY for your daughter's education. Typical liberal....letting the "wealthy grandparents" pay for it.

Have you no pride, my homosexual amigo? Seesh.

GAY PRIDE...YES.....Pride in paying for your daughter's education....NO! :-(

Wow....just wow.

Now put on your pink banana hammock Speedo and inline skates and go rollerblading down on South Beach the next time you're down there.

She (delagar) teaches at The University of Arkansas at Fort Smith. Not tenured, so most likely an Associate Professor without the stature of working in Fayetteville the main campus of The University of Arkansas.

Now leave her alone, she's an intelligent lesbian.
