Beirut, March 8, 1985.

There was no retaliation for reasons that are not clear to this day.

Oh, and lest we forget, St. Ronnie did an end-around behind the sitting president's back to make a deal with Iranian leaders to release the hostages AFTER the election, and he would make it VERY worth their while.

There's a word for that, and it's not 'diplomacy'.

He's probably right. There would be no ISIS, because his friends Saddam and Iran would gladly use the weapons he sold them (illegally or otherwise) in order to quash them.

The comments above have covered it pretty well. The imagined Ronald Reagan is regarded as a saint by Republicans everywhere. The real Ronald Reagan was a disaster by any measure.

"In fact, said Bruce Bartlett in an interview ... most contemporary conservatives understand little of Reagan or his policies, because today’s conservatives are “stupid and not very well read.”

Bartlett, 65, served as an economic and domestic policy advisor to Reagan, the 40th President of the United States, and Reagan’s successor, George H.W. Bush."

ISIS would be a WASWAS and Conservatives believe this and think it's funny because they're DUMBDUMB.

Ronald Prune Face Reagan was a not so well educated C-list actor who tried to act like he was our prez.

At the end there, poor Nancy had to steer him and feed him his lines.

Terrible prez, but restored "patriotism" in America that was much in need after the fiasco that was James Earl Peanut Farmer Carter.

Appears that this bears repeating.

For a really good (and amusing) read, I cannot recommend this book enough:

The Clothes Have No Emperor: A Chronicle of the American '80s

by Paul Slansky.

This book about Ronald Reagan just might be the best book ever written. Really.

Buy two, and send one to the next person you encounter who tells you how great Reagan was.

The book is long out of print, but it's available from Amazon for as little as 1¢, so there's no reason not to buy it.

The Clothes Have No Emperor at Amazon

I've gone through three copies myself over the years. They get worn out from lending them to people, and all of them have raved about how good it was.

Apparently, Slansky's book is now available as a downloadable ebook and you can:

1. Read the first part for free
2. Name your price when you buy it

Check it out here:

Thanks, CharlieE. So conservatives have no excuse now for not reading the facts about Reagan. I'll go check it out myself, even though I probably know most of what's in the book.

I actually have that book.
