Fw: Very Interesting

Very Interesting!

This article is from the "Investor's Business Daily." It provides some very interesting statistics from a survey by the United Nations International Health Organization.

Percentage of men and women who survived a cancer five years after diagnosis:

U.S. 65%

England 46%

Canada 42%

Percentage of patients diagnosed with diabetes who received treatment within six months:

U.S. 93%

England 15%

Canada 43%

Percentage of seniors needing hip replacement who received it within six months:

U.S. 90%

England 15%

Canada 43%

Percentage referred to a medical specialist who see one within one month:

U.S. 77%

England 40%

Canada 43%

Number of MRI scanners (a prime diagnostic tool) per million people:

U.S. 71

England 14

Canada 18

Percentage of seniors (65+), with low income, who say they are in "excellent health":

U.S. 12%

England 2%

Canada 6%

I don't know about you, but I don't want "Universal Healthcare" comparable to England or Canada .

Moreover, it was Sen. Harry Reid who said, "Elderly Americans must learn to accept the inconveniences of old age." WELL, SHIP HIS BUTT TO CANADA OR ENGLAND !

...except these "statistics" never appeared in IBD.

Fail again, dummies.

Worth noting, though:

SCOTUS ruled 5-4 yesterday that corporations
can make unlimited campaign contributions...

"The Supreme Court has ruled that
corporations may spend freely to support or
oppose candidates for president and Congress,
easing decades-old limits on their participation
in federal campaigns."

So if anyone doubted that the US is no longer
a republic and instead is a corporate oligarchy,
that should rip the veil from your eyes.

No doubt this will make the reactionaries
happy, since it will piss off the liberals. What
they don't realize is that they're in for the
biggest ass-raping of all time.

Brought to you by the Koch Oligarchy funded Americans for Prosperity think tank, or another similarly funded rightwing group who LIES to the sheeples in order to get them to vote against their own interests.

And yes, Gruaud points out a very CHILLING decision by the rightwing thinktank that is our SCOTUS. All power to the poeple... NOT!

In the immortal words of Gil Scott Heron: Wake up... or we're all through!

Bogus Stats--and one-sided questions, just another day in Propaganda City, USA.

I'd like to see stats for the following ...percentage of people with undiagnosed illnesses due to lack of ANY medical care. Or percentage of people who've visited a doctor in the past year. Or Percentage of people who can't afford their prescribed meds...

Re: Scotus decision to give all power to corporations. There are only a few things left they can take from us...the vote and the right to peaceful assembly being two. And both of which we need to use in the creation of a populist, anti-corporate political party.

I recommend looking into the "Move your Money" program as something you can do as an individual to fight back against the big money financial sector.

I'll take your word for it, gruaud, that this didn't appear in Investor's Business Daily, but they are the publication that said Stephen Hawking "wouldn’t have a chance in the U.K., where the National Health Service would say the life of this brilliant man, because of his physical handicaps, is essentially worthless."

Yep.... IBD did say in an editorial that the U.K.'s NHS would consider Hawking's life as worthless.... however look at the 'Update' at the end of the link:

UPDATE: Investors Business Daily has corrected its editorial, removing all mention of Stephen Hawking. And Hawking himself has responded, telling the UK’s Guardian:

“I wouldn’t be here today if it were not for the NHS. I have received a large amount of high-quality treatment without which I would not have survived.”

The five-year cancer survival rate in the US is artificially boosted by US standards that overreport very early signs as if they were actual cases of cancer, esp. breast and prostate cancer.

The hip replacement stat is ironic because the overwhelming majority of hip replacements in the US are performed under the auspices of Medicare--i.e., single-payer, government-run medicine.
