FW: The Tax Poem

At first I thought this was funny...then I realized the awful truth of it. Be sure to read all the way to the end..
Tax his land,
Tax his bed,
Tax the table
At which he's fed.
Tax his tractor,
Tax his mule,
Teach him taxes
Are the rule.
Tax his work,
Tax his pay,
He works for peanuts;
Anyway!

Tax his cow,
Tax his goat,
Tax his pants,
Tax his coat.
Tax his ties,
Tax his shirt,
Tax his work,
Tax his dirt.
Tax his tobacco,
Tax his drink,
Tax him if he
Tries to think.
Tax his cigars,
Tax his beers ,
If he cries
Tax his tears.
Tax his car,
Tax his gas,
Find other ways
To tax his ass.
Tax all he has
Then let him know
That you won't be done
Till he has no dough.
When he screams and hollers;
Then tax him some more,
Tax him till
He's good and sore.
Then tax his coffin,
Tax his grave,
Tax the sod in
Which he's laid.
Put these words
Upon his tomb,
'Taxes drove me
to my doom...'
When he's gone,
Do not relax,
Its time to apply
The inheritance tax.

Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago, and our nation was the most prosperous in the world.
We had absolutely no national debt, had the largest middleclass in the world, and Mom stayed home to raise the kids.
What happened? Can you spell 'politicians?'
I hope this goes around THE USA at least 100 times!!!
YOU can help it get there!!! GO AHEAD - - - BE AN AMERICAN

Again with this one? I'm all for recycling but I'm not sure it should apply to lame RWD forwards.
George Harrison did this WAY better 40 years ago.
From Wikipedia: "The first dramatic growth spurt of the [U.S. public] debt occurred because of the Civil War. The debt was just $65 million in 1860, but passed $1 billion in 1863 and had reached $2.7 billion following the war. The debt slowly fluctuated for the rest of the century, finally growing steadily in the 1910s and early 1920s to roughly $22 billion as the country paid for involvement in World War I."
Love the assertion that women should stay home and raise the kids, as if that had anything to do with taxes.
It's a shame about the middle class shrinking, but again, making this a tax argument clashes with the talking point about the lazy poor not paying their share.
Actually, anon, this is the first time this one has appeared on MRWD. Your familiarity with is must spring from having rec'd it in your inbox multiple times.

dave,
Actually, variations of this have been posted here:
http://myrightwingdad.blogspot.com/2009/02/fwd-fw-how-many-zeroes-are-in-1-billion.html
And btw, while the middle class has been shrinking the past 30 or so years, the current middle class is certainly larger than that of the 19th century. (not that it has anything to do with taxes)
Hmmm ... when I posted it, I did a search on "tax poem" and "tax his cigars" and got nothing.

"Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago, and our nation was the most prosperous in the world."
Yeah, we didn't have the FAA 100 years ago, but I'm happy to pony up a bit more money out of my paycheck to make sure planes don't crash into each other mid-flight.
"What happened?" Can you spell military-industrial complex out to manipulate you into believing in fake wars to enrich the obscenely wealthy (who make up far less than 1% of our population)??
Can you spell Karl Rove, et al, who deliberately set out in the early 1970s to fool you idiots into thinking that any kind of tax was "unfair" but only unfair to you, you self-absorbed moran?
Can you spell that the wealthiest amongst us, especially corporations who are considered a "citizen" for tax purposes, pay hardly ANY taxes at all, while the rest of us - INCLUDING the poor (you moran) pay up the crapper in taxes.
Yeah, you are paying a lot in taxes, but it's not the POOR who are ripping you off. Can you spell the dumbing down of your education so that you'd be so teh stooooped and moranic that you'd be easily manipulated and brainwashed into buying utter nonsensical crap like this????
And so, you morans run around screaming about unfair taxes, whilst the obscenely wealthy in this country laugh all the way to their offshore accounts secure in the knowledge that you morans will focus your hatred and blame on THE WRONG PEOPLE (eg, teh poors). Duh.
Teh stoooped, it burns!
Yeah, ha ha, 100 years ago telephones weren't in widespread use. Back in the day (not all that long ago), it wasn't unusual for one person in a town/hamlet to have the only phone, and folks had go there to use it in emergencies only.
One could go on about a lot of these taxes. I don't "get" where rightwingtards think the money is supposed to come from to support everything we use every day, like roads, public transportation, polic, fire depts, the military, various types of utilities, schools, etc.
Yes, we pay taxes to pool our resources so we get economies of scale. If we all had pay privately for such stuff - in a hypothetical world where such a system could actually "work" - it would be a LOT more expensive than the taxes we currently pay.
I saw something recently on another blog where the post said that no one in their state wants to pay taxes to fix the roads, nor do they want toll roads (essentially to tax just those who use that road), but the state's citizens are critical about how crappy their roads are & want them fixed NOW.
We have really gotten to a point of ridiculousness where these wingnuts don't want to pay for anything (why?), but then expect everything to run really well for free.
And then they compare life in 2009 to life in 1909 with no concept of what it was actually like back then.
Does not compute.
And, let's be fair. A lot of these aren't taxes. For better, or worse, I'm actually an expert on the Universal Service Fund, and it is not a tax. There's even a Fifth Circuit case saying just that.
But, never let facts get in the way of a good argument.
Amen to last Anon post, and I have to comment on the poor, poor, let's cry a river, "Corporate Income Tax." Boo hoo, poor pathetic Corporations have to pay taxes, wah wah boo hoo....
Corporations got a huge break (I think it was during the New Deal but correct me if I'm wrong) being taxed as a citizen/human, rather than as an entity. And bc of this entitlement, corporations probably pay LESS in taxes than they should.
These people have really been brainwashed, and they don't understand about 99% of the b.s. that they spew out. I wish they'd do their homework, but that's not gonna happen.
If I were ambitious, I'd write my own version of this, listing all the public services the average schmoe benefits from to get where he is today.
Something like, "The paved road you drive on - the traffic light that works - the school bus driver who drives your kids - the certified laboratory that tests his urine for drugs - the fire department paramedics - the public school education - " etc.
Remember that Ayn Rand essay:
"America's Persecuted Minority: Big Business"
To Snarla: that would be a great idea (but I don't blame you, if you don't feel like doing it) EXCEPT that you can present these types of wingtards w/extremely well-docmented FACTS day in & day out, but it won't make a damn bit of difference.
In other words, it would be nice to have such a listing, but these folks would just find some way to pick holes in it, argue against it, say that they really don't need roads or whatever, claim that bc you are a progressive, your facts are wrong, and so on.
So: in the end, you'd be wasting your time... except for the edification of progressives, but then you're preaching to the choir.
