Subject: FW: Fwd: Fw: Democrat's Proposed Health Plan

If you're worried about how complicated health care might get, this little diagram (attached) should help it all make sense to you.

Jonathan Cohn at The New Republic, who's a pretty active supporter of health care reform, pointed out that this isn't an inaccurate chart; any health care system is going to be large and complicated.

But Republicans used the same kind of chart back in 1994 to shoot down UHC, and TNR has already prepared a chart of the existing health care system for comparison. Amazing how they could predict history repeating!

And, of course, there is always this version:
Not a terrible distillation for knee-jerk liberal plan is bad and scary.

Ah, I saw this gem on C-Span last night. When I first saw it, I thought it was a diagram of how things actually are today. Then as I listened to the presenter I remembered that right-wingers think the current system goes more like this:

Doctor -> Best Healthcare in the World(TM) -> Benevolent Insurance Providers Who Sprinkle Money on Everyone Who Needs It -> Consumer

Do they not realize that no other industrialized country wants the system we have, that they PITY us because we're all one round with cancer away from total ruin?

A woman lawyer, judge, and author whom I interviewed a couple of years ago sent me this email about HEALTH CARE, It is sent to me in a bright red font, so that means it must be something important.

Senior Death Warrants

The actress Natasha Richardson died after falling skiing in Canada. It took eight hours to drive her to a hospital. If Canada had our healthcare she might be alive today. We now have helicopters that would have gotten
her to the hospital in 30 minutes. Obama wants to have our health care like Canada's and England's.

In England anyone over 59 cannot receive heart repairs or stents or bypass because it is not covered as being too expensive and not needed.

I got this today and am sending it on. If Obama's plans in other areas don't scare you, this should.

Please do not let Obama sign senior death warrants.

Everybody who is on this mailing list is either a senior citizen, is getting close or knows somebody who is.

Most of you know by now that the
Senate version (at least) of the "stimulus" bill includes provisions for extensive rationing of health care for senior citizens. The author of this part of the bill, former senator and tax evader, Tom Daschle, was credited by Bloomberg with the following statement.

Bloomberg: Daschle says, "Health care reform will not be pain free. Seniors should be more accepting of the conditions that come with age instead of treating them."

If this does not sufficiently raise your ire, just remember that Senators and Congressmen have their own health care plan that is first dollar or very low co-pay which they are guaranteed the remainder of their lives and are not subject to this new law if it passes.

Please use the power of the internet to get this message out. Talk it up at the grassroots level.... We have an election coming up in one year and nine months. We have the ability to address and reverse the dangerous direction the Obama administration and its allies have begun and in the interim, we can make their lives miserable. Lets do it! If you disagree, don't do anything...

@ Ellen

I've seen that forward before. As expected its bunk. Natasha Richardson was not killed by socialized medicine, nor did Daschle say that about seniors having to accept their conditions and not seek treatment. Snopes has the full story (naturally).

As for the "death warrants" for old people, I think wingnuts have to make up their minds. If Obama is really is just a power hungry Democrat, its in his interest to keep those who depend on Medicare and Social Security alive (since they are one of the strongest Democratic voting blocks). Why would he want to kill them off?

Hello Anonymous,

Thanks for directing me to which I did not consult after I received the email.

Here is the link for anyone interested in a thoughtful discussion of this subject.

Thanks again. I'm going to link to this blog from my blogspot.

GAH! Thanks for debunking that Natasha Richardson did NOT die bc of Canada's so-called "horrid" nationalized health care system.

Just to put it in perspective: Ms. Richardson fell whilst skiing and didn't feel that bad. It didn't seem like a serious injury to her at the time. Although workers at the ski resort strongly urged her to go the Clinic for a checkup, she chose not to.

This was a bad decision on her part bc by the time she started feeling the effects (I think it was a brain embolism), it was too late, and no helicopter ride would've saved her.

This is a common problem w/ski accidents, and I believe that something similar happened either to Sony Bono and/or to one of the Kennedy kids, as well.

Skiers are continually encouraged to visit clinics after hitting their heads skiing, but I have to confess to being amongst the stupid who has also ignored this warning. Clearly I was lucky.

So, per usual, conservatards are TRADING on a personal family tragedy of a public figure to push their brainwashing propoganda on unsuspecting idiots. They should be ashamed of themselves and apologize to Liam Neeson & his kids, but, as we know, these crass jerks feel no shame and will stoop at nothing to push their agenda.

Also the Tom Daschle will kill your aging parents meme is old & utterly untrue.

It's been debunked over & over, but why waste a good lie when you think you can hoodwink some rube?
