Fwd: Fw: How many zeroes are in 1 billion?

This is too true to be funny.

The next time you hear a politician use the
word 'billion' in a casual manner, think about
whether you want the 'politicians' spending
YOUR tax money.

A billion is a difficult number to comprehend,
but one advertising agency did a good job of
putting that figure into some perspective in
one of it's releases.

A billion seconds ago it was 1959.

A billion minutes ago Jesus was alive.

A billion hours ago our ancestors were
living in the Stone Age.

A billion days ago no-one walked on the earth.

A billion dollars ago was only
8 hours and 20 minutes, at the rate our government is spending it.

While this thought is still fresh in our brain...
let's take a look at New Orleans ...
It's amazing what you can learn with some simple division.

Louisiana Senator,

Mary Landrieu (D)
is presently asking
Congress for
to rebuild New Orleans . Interesting number...
what does it mean?

Well... if you are one of the 484,674 residents of New Orleans
(every man, woman, and child)
each get $516,528.

Or... if you have one of the 188,251 homes in
New Orleans , y! our home gets

Or... if you are a family of four...
your family
gets $2,066,012.

Washington , D.C

Funny, not only did Democrat Mary Landrieu ask--in 2005--for $250B over 10 years to rebuild New Orleans, so did her Republican counterpart (and noted whoremonger) David Vitter. Somehow that got omitted from this rant. And according to the story at the link, Bush himself had proposed slightly less than that. Also left out.

It's so crazy that rebuilding an entire city would cost a lot of money, you know? Kind of makes you wish that these same people had asked how much it would cost to rebuild an entire country (Iraq) after invading and destroying it.

What does any of this nonsense have to do with "and mom stayed home to raise the kids"?

WTF? We have a national debt and a shrinking middle class because "Mom" works?

Is it OK with this jackass if us non-Mom women go to work? Are we causing the economic problems, too?

I had the same thought about "mom staying home to raise the kids." It would have been one thing to say, "our economic culture was such that families with children could get by on one income, leaving one parent more time to educate the children." but the way it's just tossed in there is just diarrhea.

also, what does it have to do with pushing "1" for English. is there a special button for ignorant bigots?

It would be nice to live in a country when I could stay home with my children. If I had all the taxes that are held out of just my husbands pay check each week I could!
I LOVE my kitchen BTW.
Oh and another thing... speak ENGLISH or go back to where you came from!

@ Anon

Or maybe you could try living within your means?

Maybe you could realize that taxes are the price to pay for living in an advanced civilized nation? And that taxes were much higher for much of the 20th century. And that Obama has given most people a tax cut and the rest are paying the same they did under St. Ronnie. And that your husband's salary was set with a realization of the amount of taxes he would have to pay, and that if those taxes didn't exist he would likely make less money and his purchasing power would be the same as it is now?

I won't hold my breath.

Am I supposed to feel bad for you? If you couldn't afford to have children, you shouldn't have had them to begin with! Called personal responsibility, you know, that thing that you rightwingers always preach but never practice?
