What a shock! Rick Perry graduated college at age 22 during wartime, when he was likely to get drafted. So he joined the Air Force.

Barack Obama might have done the same thing, had he been born ten years earlier.

But he wasn't. So what's the point of this?

Reminds me a hell of a lot of W. Its practically the same picture!

Pity wingnuts never created a side by side comparison of W and Kerry during their service in Vietnam. I'm sure they all would have seen the errors of their ways and supported the real war hero, Kerry. Right?

As for the whole Obama vs. a vet angle, he already beat (actually crushed) McCain, who legitimately went to war and suffered horribly for his service. Perry's service pales in comparison.

Perry makes Bush the Simple look like Albert Einstein.

Thus, he is a lock for the nomination.

I loved that John Kerry was the only person ever to be made fun of for actually serving in Vietnam.

@ LiberalGunner

Agree, the whole thing was insane. I had an internet encounter a while back (maybe a year ago) with some truly vile wingnuts who were STILL bitching about Kerry's service and how it was supposedly faked.

They kept asking "where are his records" (sound familiar?), and despite the fact that I produced his entire military portfolio with a 3 minute google search, they still weren't convinced that he was even in country. I guess the whole Republican fetish with reclaiming Vietnam and making themselves "the good guys" who supported our troops doesn't apply to every veteran.

Boy, it's a good thing Perry switched to the Republican party, or that military service would be a millstone around his neck (among Republicans).

What's Perry doing posed on the wing of a fighter jet? He was a C-130 pilot. That is a 4 engine turbo-prop cargo plane. This picture is like a dump truck driver posing in a Formula One racer.

My point is, I'd rather leave my affairs to a man who was finding himself at 22 than one who was fighting wars with guns and ammunition at 22.

For the child-minded, denial addicts,
Perry trained on fighter jets... Obama was a loser without a job, mentored by a hammer and sickel socialist radical. Obama was to learn how to get people riled up and excited as an organizer, Perry was doing mathematical equations in his head, on the fly, concerning air density and thrust ratios... at the same age. That's the difference. You will believe only liberal ideas because you need that identity of being compassionate, cool that you think liberalism represents. You live in a world of imagery and impressions, just the way the DNC and Madison Ave like it. They rely on it. The term "useful Idiots" is quite applicable here. Go forth, you narcissistic lemmings.

Gee, Perry sounds like a genius when you put it that way. I wonder why he got:
a C in physics
a C in accounting
a D in trigonometry
a D in economics
a D in business law
and an F in chemistry.

Maybe that's why he slashed taxes and spent the state into a $25 billion hole until the economy collapsed, leaving Texas to cut $4 billion from education (Perry wanted $10 billion), despite having $9 billion in a rainy day fund for exactly this situation.

Perry trained on fighter jets...

No, it was actually C-130s.

Obama was a loser without a job,

Except for, you know, his job that he had, which he got with his college degree he had just earned.

Obama was to learn how to get people riled up and excited as an organizer

So in other words he was trying to make people's lives better through democratic efforts and learning valuable political lessons.

Perry was doing mathematical equations in his head, on the fly, concerning air density and thrust ratios... at the same age.

No, he wasn't. Amazing though, how Perry's peaceful stint in the Air Force makes him some kind of war hero, but John Kerry's going into actual combat at the same age makes him some kind of pussy.

BTW, you know who else was a military pilot? George McGovern. Flew actual combat missions against the Nazis. I don't recall that his pilot service made a big impression among Republicans.

You will believe only liberal ideas because you need that identity of being compassionate, cool that you think liberalism represents

No, I believe them because they are based in reality and are superior to conservative ideas.

You live in a world of imagery and impressions, just the way the DNC and Madison Ave like it

Wait, its the Dems who rely more on symbolism? Did the Rebublicans not hijack 9/11 in order to advance their stupid plans? Did Willy Horton not exist? Do Republicans not constantly bring up the specter of things like same sex marriage and flag burning as examples of how the whole world is going to hell and that only electing people like them can stop it?

The term "projection" is quite applicable here.

As some here know, I'm not a huge Obama fan (to say the least), but I was to pick between O at 22 & Perry at 22 based on those 2 photos, well... let's just say I wouldn't be "into" some dude all jumped up on a plane holding a gun.

More rightwing guns 'n ammo porno. Whatever. Perry is as dumb as a bag of hammers (despite wishful thinking to the contrary), and I doubt, in the end, that the country club Republicans will let Perry "win." But this is sent forth to fluff the base, as we see with reliable resutls (and don't think too hard about that one).

LiberalGunner--nope, they made fun of Gore, too. Amazing ability conservatives have, to demonize actual veterans while lionizing draft dodgers. My head would explode if I tried something like that.
