Fw: WE NEED TO DO THIS

We Need To Do This!

In our current economic situation, every little thing we buy or do affects someone else and perhaps even their job.... so after reading this email ... I think this lady is on the right track. Let's get behind her!!

Hi friends,

This may seem like a funny email but I was so surprised by what I discovered I had to share it with you. When I think of the job situation in this country, I can't help but think this helps in some small way. I don't know how many households there are in the U.S. . but if these were the only things we bought think of the impact... (She wrote:)

This past weekend I was at Kroger. I needed 60 W light bulbs and Bounce dryer sheets. I was in the light bulb aisle and right next to the GE brand I normally buy was an off brand labeled " Everyday Value ." I picked up both types of bulbs and compared the stats - they were the same except for the price. The GE bulbs were more money than the Everyday Value brand but the thing that surprised me the most was the fact that GE was made in MEXICO and the Everyday Value brand was made in - get read y for this - the USA . So throw out the myth that you cannot find products you use every day that are made right here - from a company in Cleveland OH !

So on to another aisle - Bounce Dryer Sheets......yep you guessed it Bounce was more money and made in Canada , the Everyday Value brand was less money and MADE IN THE USA ! I di d laundry yesterday and the dryer sheets performed just like the Bounce Free I have been using for years and at almost half the price!

So my challenge to you is to start reading the labels when you shop for everyday things and see what you can find that is made in the USA - the job you save may be your own or your neighbors!

If you accept the challenge, pass this on to others in your address book so we can all start buying American, one light bulb at a time!

Besides, you might save a little green in the process.

We should have awakened a decade ago...... lets get with the program..... help our fellow Americans keep their jobs ... and create more jobs here in the U.S.A.

If only that had anything to do with the current financial crisis.

I'm certainly no "Buy American" junkie, but if this were actually true, it might make sense. It is certainly true that a big part of the problem in this country is that vast swaths of the country buy everything at Wal-Mart, where price, rather than saving local business or supporting companies that pay living wages and give health benefits, is the only factor.

It would be great if this story were true, but I suspect it isn't. I would gladly pay a little more for things I buy if I knew the workers who made it AND sold it to me were treated fairly by their respective employers.

Funnily enough, us lefties are also making waves about buying local - especially when it comes to buying food and such - because it's more efficient and environmentally friendly for your greens to have been transported from a farm a few miles away than from a farm several thousand miles and at least one ocean away. Also, the reason green beans grown in Kenya are so much cheaper to buy in the UK is because the laws on worker's rights and wages are less stringent and so therefore the owners of this farm will pay their farmhands less and can afford to charge less for beans. Buying local, assuming your country is one which has more stringent laws on these things, ensures you also care about the health and welfare of the workers. In theory, at least.

tl;dr - this is actually a bipartisan issue, but for different reasons.

Needs Comic Sans tag.

(I cannot believe that the most tolerable and sane RWD forward I've seen is in Comic Sans)

Yeah yeah, but where were all these concerned 'Buy American' people when Bush was giving tax breaks to companies that ship jobs overseas?

Most of these right wing forward folks are big proponents of WalMart, so they need to read the tags and labels at their favorite non-union store before buying.

I call shenanigans on this because of the countries mentioned. Mexico, OK, but who outsources to Canada? It sounds more like someone going, "Some stuff is made in Mexico...ummm...what's another foreign country?"

You know, Comic Sans was made in the USA... just sayin...
