FW: A new Dr. Seuss book...

Ted Geisel, aka Dr. Seuss, was a Democrat who wrote books against many of the things the modern Republican party stands for. He was an environmentalist, a supporter of tolerance and racial equality, and was against things like war and the arms race. Somehow I doubt he would have written this or objected to the current Democratic agenda.

I give the RW credit for some level of creativity on this one. But, I also would remind them that 1) its best not to have your policy analysis be from a children's book, and 2) the point of the book is that after trying it, he liked it. Try some liberal social policies, you might like them.

Well at least 90% of this applies to Republicans as well as to Democrats. "I do not like these dirty crooks, and how they lie and cook the books." This could well describe W's admin, esp in re to how he cooked the books in terms of the money being spent on the Wars in Iraq and Afganhistan. It wasn't until Obama got in that we found out about that, and then citizens got a "real" budget highlighting what Bush had spent.

So, who're they talking about?

I also don't like how Congress steals and their secret deals, but I'm not naive enough to believe that only one political party does this. Both parties do, and most pols do.

The difference between me and most Republicans is that I'll call out any politician for lying and stealing and for being crooked, no matter what the party affiliation.

Rightwingers want to believe that their "team" is pure and honest, while all the lying and stealing is done only by Democrats.

That's just stupid, and it's not helping to just blame one party and then look the other way when your "side" does the same lying and stealing.

And yes, Ted Geisl, and his family are very progressive.

Theodore Geisel a supporter of racial tolerance? I've seen his cartoons of "the dirty japs" and I know he supported internment of Japanese Americans. Other than that, sure.

Snarla: What about the Sneetches? The whole point is that it shouldn't matter whether they have stars or not. And there's the pale green pants, about prejudice. And lots more.

@ Snarla

Yes, he had his dark moments. He later realised that hew was wrong and admitted it. But he was most certainly a democrat and a leftist who despised both facism and the republican party.

Yeah, I think Geisl was anti-Japanese during WWII. Certainly nothing to be proud of, but it was a more common, albeit terrible, sentiment at the time. Geisl then expressed remorse for his former racism against the Japanese and moved on to a more liberal & enlightened point of view.

Hence, Geisl stands out as someone who actually LEARNED from his mistake, something which is admirable. Rightwingers should emulate Geisl in this respect, but I won't hold my breath.

Racial equality and equal opportunity for every person is the very heart of conservatism. Anyone who thinks it isn't has never looked at the conservative agenda. Further conservatives are against war, but like Dr. Seuss and our founding fathers realize that some times you have to stand for human rights and as well as standing against aggression and oppression. We simply refuse to be victims. As far as environmentalism goes. The right wing wants sensible progress not just political posturing. Fact, conservatives have passed at least the last two increases in fuel efficiency requirements for automobile manufacturers. They also support renewable and sustainable energy.

Racial equality and equal opportunity for every person is the very heart of conservatism.

The party which was forged out of The Southern Strategy and which is getting older, whiter, and more bigoted every year is for "equal opportunity"? Is is opposite day?

Anyone who thinks it isn't has never looked at the conservative agenda.

Ok, really... its opposite day, right?

Further conservatives are against war

Except, you know, that one time. And that other time. And that other one. And all those other ones which were pointless and wasteful.

Wait, I forgot.... opposite day!

We simply refuse to be victims.

Everyone is against us and we play the victim card every chance we get, but we refuse to be victims!

As far as environmentalism goes. The right wing wants sensible progress not just political posturing

Which is why we "sensibly" reject any and all scientific evidence that might hurt the bottom line of Big Oil or contradict our misinterpretation of the Bible!

Fact, conservatives have passed at least the last two increases in fuel efficiency requirements for automobile manufacturers.

They "supported" them after watering them down to nothing in order to please their corporate overlords. They also reflexively cry bloody murder at any attempt to impose meaningful fuel efficiency standards.

They also support renewable and sustainable energy.

You know... in theory. When they aren't deriding alternative energy as a godless liberal plot to make us more like those prissy Europeans. Or something.

I really love opposite day.

That was hilarious.

Hey dinosaur, you went extinct 40 years ago, did you know that?

Modern conservatism is NOTHING like what you're fantasizing about.

Maybe you need to do a little house-cleanin'.
