Wow, this half qualifies as a left wing forward. There's some confusion here but for the most part its right on in its indictment of Simpson and his ilk.
When we the people voted for people who would lower our taxes to a level that was not sustainable, thereby necessitating the raiding of SS and the increase in national debt, we gave our elected leaders the go ahead for this plan. This plan has been in play since Reagan's whopping tax cuts were instituted. But we doubled down on the plan with Bush the Lesser also. I bet this whiner was really happy when his tax rate went down. Now he wants to blame the guy he voted for. That's not only selfish but stupid too
"decided to raid the account and give OUR money to a bunch of zero ambition losers in return for votes"
If by "losers" you mean the super-rich who benefitted from tax cuts, and by "votes" you mean "campaign contributions and propaganda funding to buy you votes", then yes.
"It is you, Captain Bullshit, and your political co-conspirators who are greedy. It is you and they who have bankrupted America and stolen the American dream from millions of loyal, patriotic taxpayers. And for what?"
I'll tell you for what: the super-rich people who really run things (including the Republican party, just FYI).
Sometimes, the right-wing gets OH SO VERY CLOSE to reason, one could ALMOST have hope.
But we keep cutting taxes! And tax cuts always pay for themselves! What more can we do?!
I'm ever so slightly tempted to let Republicans kill Medicare, just so all these loopy old gaffers can see what medical care actually costs these days if you're not on the government dole. You think there'd be death panels under Obama? Try buying insurance from Wellpoint as an 80-year-old, bub!
I like Dave Ramsey's idea on SS. Stop taxing my SS and you can keep your ill gotten taxes I've paid in so far. I then can put my moey in my own savings plan and I will come out farther ahead of anybody who is being taxed by the SS.
Social InSecurity is just a gov't run Ponzi scheme.
Like any insurance plan, some people will collect no money from SSI, others will get back what they put in, and others will collect a lot more than they put in. This is how any insurance works. Its only a ponzi scheme if the gov't stops paying. Barring complete collapse, that seems unlikely to happen.
"I'm ever so slightly tempted to let Republicans kill Medicare..."
So that they can blame it on Democrats.
Seriously.
I have a friend who is a Right-Wing True Believer. [I forgive her for this because I consider it to be a kind of mental illness brough on by an abusive childhood, abusive marriage, and targeted propaganda, and just avoid talking politics with her, but that's neither here nor there.] Anyway, she relies on Medicare. Any cuts to Medicare will be seen as a result of the eee-vil Obamacare, not the result of federal funding cuts. Period.
Those who are incapable of learning don't learn.
"I have been paying Social Security taxes for 48 YEARS "
"50-year political career"
All government workers PAY into a pension, just like SS, at a higher rate than those in SS. He's paid 2 years longer and at a higher rate.
Raise your taxes "yet again"?
First of all, Bowles-Simpson places a quite strict (excessively so) statutory limit on tax rates.
Second, your federal income taxes have been going down for the last fifty years. Kennedy cut taxes, Reagan cut taxes, and Bush cut taxes. There was a mild increase in the Clinton years, but that was from a historically low, completely unsustainable rate.
