FW: Social Security now called

Subject: Social Security now called

SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT THE ONLY THING WRONG WITH THIS CALCULATION IS THEY FORGOT TO FIGURE IN THE PEOPLE WHO DIED BEFORETHEY COLLECTED THEIR SOCIAL SECURITY!!!! WHERE DID THAT MONEY GO??????

This is another example of what Rick Perry called "TREASON in high places" !!!

Remember, not only did you contribute to Social Security but your employer did too. It totaled 15% of your income before taxes. If you averaged only $30K over your working life, that's close to $220,500.
If you calculate the future value of $4,500 per year (yours & your employer's contribution) at a simple 5% (less than what the government pays on the money that it borrows), after 49 years of working you'd have $892,919.98.
If you took out only 3% per year, you'd receive $26,787.60 per year and it would last better than 30 years (until you're 95 if you retire at age 65) and that's with no interest paid on that final amount on deposit! If you bought an annuity and it paid 4% per year, you'd have a lifetime income of $2,976.40 per month.
The folks in Washington have pulled off a bigger Ponzi scheme than Bernie Madhoff ever had.

Entitlement my butt, I paid cash for my social security insurance!!!! Just because they borrowed the money, doesn't make my benefits some kind of charity or handout!!

Congressional benefits ---- free healthcare, outrageous retirement packages, 67 paid holidays, three weeks paid vacation, unlimited paid sick days, now that's welfare, and they have the nerve to call my social security retirement entitlements?

We're "broke" and can't help our own Seniors, Veterans, Orphans, Homeless.
In the last months we have provided aid to Haiti , Chile , and Turkey . And now Pakistan...... home of the late bin Laden. Literally, BILLIONS of DOLLARS!!!

Our retired seniors living on a 'fixed income' receive no aid nor do they get any breaks while our government and religious organizations pour Hundreds of Billions of $$$$$$'s and Tons of Food to Foreign Countries!

They call Social Security and Medicare an entitlement even though most of us have been paying for it all our working lives and now when it’s time for us to collect, the government is running out of money. Why did the government borrow from it in the first place? Imagine if the *GOVERNMENT* gave 'US' the same support they give to other countries.
    Sad isn't it?

Unfortunately it seems like a lot of anger being misdirected at semantics instead of substance.

That's what "entitlement" means. You paid into it, therefore you are entitled to received benefits out of it. Unfortunately the word has taken on a negative connotation in modern times, mostly as a result of people who want to destroy these programs smearing them at every oppourtunity.

Also, we do provide aid to Seniors, Veterans, Orphans and the homeless. Not enough aid, and not always in the most helpful ways, but we do provide it.

Still, this forward is kind of encouraging. It looks like they are finally learning about how there are serious efforts to rob them of their benefits in order to avoid having to levy fair taxes on the super rich and big business. This is kind of a good start. Hopefully this anger can be directed where it belongs, squarely at people like Paul Ryan and the other hucksters who embrace his evil "budget".

Lazy author! SS contributions do not equal 15%, but 10.4% at the moment, and 12.4% prior to Obama's tax cut. And if SS is a ponzi scheme then so is every other kind of insurance.

Seniors may feel they are getting squeezed, but in reality the gov't spends $7 on seniors for every $1 on children. If anyone's getting the shaft it is today's children. When we stop investing in our children, we've largely given up on our country's future.

To turn the tables on the old folks a bit: today's seniors are a great disappointment, displaying incredible selfishness and greed. My grandmother's generation did not hold such selfish ideas toward future generations. They would not be OK with cutting school funding to the bare bones, nor would they be so gleeful to see music, arts and sports cut from the curriculum. There is something wrong with many in today's oldster generation.

Gee, what happens if you die before collecting your Social Security? If only there was a helpful publication on the SSA website, such as, I don't know, SSA Publication No. 05-10084 (ICN 468540, April 2011) explaining the concept of "survivor benefits." Internets are hard!

I think the best part here is how it's vitally important that we help "our own Seniors, Veterans, Orphans, Homeless", but "Literally, BILLIONS of DOLLARS" going to, for example, Haiti, is a bridge too far. (Of course, people tend to be an order of magnitude off on the size of foreign aid anyway.)

Also, the payroll tax rate for OASDI was under 5% until 1963, and under 10% until 1984--including the employer's portion. Oh, and income wasn't even taxed up to $30,000 until 1982. So... yeah, the numbers here are so wrong I'm not even sure where to begin to put them right. It's especially confusing because the Social Security Administration mails out statements annually. (Well, they're only mailing them out to people over 60 due to budget issues this year.) But still!

What's sad is when people spend their time decrying government "handouts" to help those who need it most, and then accept the exact same aid with the lame excuse of "well, I paid into it, which means it's ok if I get some of it back" (see Ayn Rand and that guy who got part of his finger bitten off at an anti-government rally, who then went and got it fixed via medicare).

Utilization of government services when other services are available is a tacit acceptance of the way the systems works, morans.
