One objection: Paul Harvey refers often here to the virtue of hard work, of the incentive to succeed, and the need for personal responsibility.
I object to painting a lack of these virtues as the work of the Devil because it helps people assume there's nothing anyone can do but pray to fix the problems in our country.
I speak often with both my conservative and liberal friends, who feel for different reasons that American government cannot be fixed. Perhaps if we spent less time asking God to fix our problems and more time demanding accountability from our leaders, we would start to see a change.
Any "truth" is this crappy propaganda rests on 2 assumptions:
1) There really is a devil who wants to "destroy" America.
2) Paul Harvey actually has some special knowledge of how this mythical devil might operate, and therefore his "prediction" has value.
0 for 2, I'd say.
Thanks to both commenters. My parents listened to Paul Harvey a lot back in the day.
I agree that it's a useless waste of time opining about the "devil." Pray all you like, if you are so inclined.
But get off your butt and demand that elected politicians and others in positions of power do a better job.
To me, this is yet another demonstration of how the 1%ers use the "churches" and other "religious" groups to bamboozle citizens, esp conservatives, into passivity and compliance.
Oh my: we simply have "no power" except to "pray" for a diety to "save us" from "evil."
Works like a charm for the 1%, doesn't it?
Fershitz: How can you expect anyone to take you seriously if you begin a sentence with a conjunction?!? The horror. Seriously though, well put.
Now that ferschitz, my mentally sick libturd amigo, has chimed in with his babble/pap/drivel/twaddle opinions and comments, I guess we can say, "now you know the rest of the story...good day!" (pun intended) ha! ;-)
That's not a pun, you illiterate moron. Also, babble/pap/drivel/twaddle are not adjectives. I did notice that you came as close as I've seen to making a cogent point however. Congratulations.
Gee my secret bully lover is back. How sweet! S/he really really does like me! (shades of Sally Fields).
Waves to Anon-BullyTroll.
Hey there! Glad I so get you riled up with some rather simplistic observations.
Somehow in rightwing BullyTroll world, I am NOT entitled to my POV. Lessee: does that make BullyTroll a facist???
Yes, you got it: deliberate mis-spell cuz it makes BullyTroll feel so, you know, morally superior. I believe in being kind... it's his/her only opportunity to feel that way.
P.S. Gee whiz Ms/Mr Troll, I wonder why you didn't send me a nastygram bullying response to my entry in response to "Five Rules to Remember in Life," below??? Inquiring minds need to know.
