FWD: HUNTERS

Subject: HUNTERS

May have seen this before, but it’s a good reminder!!

After the Japanese decimated our fleet in Pearl Harbor Dec 7, 1941,
They could have sent their troop ships and carriers directly toCalifornia
To finish what they started.
The prediction from our Chief of Staff was we would not be able to stop a
Massive invasion until they reached the Mississippi River .
Remember, we had a 2 million man army and war ships…...
All fighting the Germans.

So, why did they not invade?

After the war, the remaining Japanese generals and admirals were asked that question.
Their answer…...
They know that almost every home had guns and the Americans knew how to use them..

The world's largest army.... America's hunters!
I had never thought about this....

A blogger added up the deer license sales in just a handful of states and
Arrived at a striking conclusion:

There were over 600,000 hunters this season in the state ofWisconsin ..
Allow me to restate that number.
Over the last several months, Wisconsin's hunters became the eighth
Largest army in the world.

More men under arms than in Iran ..

More than in France and Germany combined.

These men deployed to the woods of a single American state to hunt
With firearms, and no one was killed.

That number pales in comparison to the 750,000 who hunted the woods of
Pennsylvania and Michigan's 700,000 hunters All of whom have now returned home.

Toss in a quarter million hunters in West Virginia and it literally
Establishes the fact that the hunters of those four states alone
Would comprise the largest army in the world.

The point?

America will forever be safe from foreign invasion with that kind of home-grown firepower.
Hunting -- it's not just a way to fill the freezer. It's a matter of national security.

That's why all enemies, foreign and domestic, want to see us disarmed.

Food for thought when next we consider gun control.

Um... what? German didn't declare war on us till a few days after Pearl Harbor. We had that low level sea war going on with the U-boats as part of lend lease, but we certainly didn't have "2 million" soldiers of any stripe doing anything.

So, why did they not invade?

Because that would have been impossible. Japan had neither the manpower, the supplies, the motivation or any reason to "invade" mainland America. Their plan was always to strike fast and strike hard and hope that they hurt us enough to sue for peace before we got our war machine into full gear. Invasion was never an option, realistic or otherwise.

Think about it: it took the full might of the US War Machine 4 years to invade and conquer Japanese bases in the Pacific to get the the point where a mainland invasion of Japan was even a possibility. At that point even the greatly weakened Japanese mainland (which was firebombed to ashes and filled with old people and children, not "hunters") posed an incredible challenge in terms of an invasion. Casualties would have been astronomical. And that was for the larger, richer, stronger nation invading the much smaller, weaker, almost dead nation. It defies all military logic to think the opposite was anything but a fantasy.

Good gravy! I'm definitely in the pro-2nd amendment & pro-private ownership crowd, yet this piece of tripe sounds so lame and desperate, it's embarrassing. Maybe it was the ridiculous font and hysterical tone...

Yes, an armed populace would prove daunting to a theoretical invading army, but as was pointed out by another commenter, that would be unlikely by any other nation's present and foreseeable resources. In any case, these same fear mongers would gladly surrender to the plutocracy right here that is was, is, and will continue to grind the hoi-polloi into the ground. Hell, they even support them by continuing to vote against their interests. Even a rolling the dice and playing a wild supposition that China would try to overrun the US....You'd have the corporate media rationalizing it as a good thing since US based manufacturers there might be harmed if we fight back, and that the ever important "consumer" ( the word "citizen" is soooo last century ) would just whither and die without China's imports.

So I just chalk this up to another right wing astroturf group attempting to distract the attention of the working class by pushing their patriotic buttons.

To a wingnut, "gun control" automatically means confiscation and surrender to communist dictatorship. Requiring licenses and safety training is just fascism! (To say nothing of denying felons and the mentally unbalanced the right to buy firearms. That would limit their ability to stalk their elected representatives.)

Everyone knows it was the NRA that won World War II, so stop reading those dumb old history books.

Bad history, bad statistics. There are about 1000 hunting accidents with 100 deaths each year in the US and Canada from hunting. Its not enough for some hunters to just enjoy their sport, but now they want to be called patriotic heroes for doing so? Give me a break. Enjoy your sport, but leave the hero title to our soldiers!

Wolverines!!!!!!!

I hate shit like this it makes every gun owner seem like an inbred nationalist.

Counting hunting licenses and equating the number to anything like a "well-regulated militia" is pretty ludicrous. Folks from rural California (and, I'm sure, lots of other places) are aware how important it is during hunting season to paint "COW" on the side of your bovines that so weekend hunters don't mistake them for deer or elk or moose.

I confess to being a Boomer and was raised on the true factual reality of WWII, both the European & the Asian theatres of war. Even as a super peacenik, I find lying tripe like this incredibly *offensive.* I have relatives who died fighting in WWII, and for the NRA/guns-n-ammo-industries to send out patented lies & bullsh*t like this under the guise of patriotism (for the love of gawd) is beyond disgusting.

Sadly the push as been on for a long time to drastically dumb down the public educational system in the USA, so no doubt far too many rightwingers read (if they're actually literate) nonsense like this crap and believe it.

I would say: for shame, but per usual, the NRA & the guns 'n ammo industries wouldn't know shame if it smacked 'em upside the head with a two-by-four. This ginned up sh*t is sent to dumbos in order to suck more money out of them.

PS I really don't give a sh*t about the 2d Amendment. Own a gun if you must and hopefully use it correctly. But the notion that you'll somehow be a one-person "army" defending against so-called "foreign invaders" would be laughable if it wasn't being used to mislead dumbf*cks into spending more money on unnecessary guns and ammo.

Fershitz, you must have missed the "lets stop the harmful and violent rhetoric" speech your disaster in chief obama gave. No one truly believes this story, but your post just proves that we conservative gun owners are still one step ahead of you and your kind.

What good is one speech against generations of Republican eliminationsist rhetoric? When an entire party shapes their identity around resentment of anyone who isn't exactly like them, to the point that they'll both advocate and practice violence, what good is one speech? Especially from the man they hate the most?

No one truly believes this story, but your post just proves that we conservative gun owners are still one step ahead of you and your kind.

Nope, a few steps behind. A few steps behind the scaremongers who continue to harvest you saps for money and votes. A few steps behind the corporate masters who actually own your party. A few steps behind the people who dupe you saps for support while at teh same time planning to sell you all down the river, because you would rather indulge fantasies and stroke your gun barrels than acknowledge reality.

A few steps behind the march of history, which (hopefully, eventually) will leave your mindset in dustbin.

I'm still waiting for Obama to ban all guns like gun nuts promised he would.

To "All in the Family Four" -

Gee whillickers, Mr. Wizard, is that so?? "No one believes this story" - eh?? Then whyever was this POS lying propoganda sent out?? What's the point of it then?

I'm not clear on the point you're trying to make about Obama's speech asking citizens to stop the "harmful & violent rhetoric." Are you *projecting* that somehow *I* am spouting out how "harmful & violent rhetoric" when I tell the TRUTH and support it with facts.

Try this fact on for size:

http://thinkprogress.org/politics/2008/11/12/32222/obama-gun-sales/

If you conservatives are so incredibly smart, then why do we so much of this kind of incendiary lying crap being pumped out endlessly by rightwing think tanks and various corporations, esp the gun 'n ammo industries, who've done nothing but laugh all the way to the bank at how they so ginned up the rubes to get their knickers in a bunch that supposedly the "N-word" in the White House is going to - booga booga - take their stupid guns away.... that it results in Teahadists buying tons of guns 'n ammo ... needlessly.

Like Valeyard said, up above, I'm still *waiting* for Obama to take away all citizens' guns. Here's a clue: ain't going to happen, but the gun 'n ammo industry will continue to send forth propoganda, like this crap, that conservatives had better stockpile more guns 'n ammo... you know... just in case.

And btw, I'm no big Obama fan, myself. Just fyi.
