FIVE BEST SENTENCES
1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity, by legislating the wealth out of prosperity.
2. What one person receives without working for...another person must work for without receiving.
3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.
4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.
5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work, because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that is the beginning of the end of any nation!
Can you think of a reason for not sharing this?
Neither could I......

Ill bet most of these are fake.
Got it. All we have to do to achieve a utopian society is to dismantle government and eliminate taxation.
But wait - 50% of Americans already don't pay taxes. And yet the Republicans call them deadbeats and slackers who "don't pay their fair share."
Which is it?
What they don't want you to know is that the biggest group of 'tax deadbeats' are the elderly.
I notice none of these quotes is concerned with the middle class. It's not really about Rich v Poor. It's Rich v Middle Class.
It was during the high tax years of decades past that we grew our middle class. And now it is disappearing. Part of the problem is low tax rates. Today the rich can keep most of their money, so they do. When tax rates were 70-90% the rich hated to let the wasteful government have it they preferred to give it to their employees in the form of higher salaries or expand their business-- more jobs. Higher taxes on the rich allows the middle to exist! With out higher taxes ours is just another system where the rich get richer and EVERYONE else is the poor.
Strange how, out of all those quips purportedly from our greatest leaders and thinkers, the "five best sentences" are unsourced (and nonsense to boot).
All of them appear to be paraphrases of Adrian Rogers, a Southern Baptist pastor.
I am always frustrated by pastors who are so eager to lay all the blame for society at the feet of the least fortunate.
Another famous Churchill Quote: "What do you mean, I'm *hiccup* cut off?!?"
Couple of things:
PJ O'Rourke is a libertarian douchebag, so I really don't give a sh*t what he has to pontificate about in terms of taxes or health care. He's rich, so what does he care? He doesn't.
Ronald Reagan wouldn't have known the meaning of the words "alimentary canal," so that's something some fascist wrote & then attributed to the B-Grade "Actor" with Alzheimers.
The so-called "Five Best Sentences" certainly sum up rightwing Oligarchy thinking. ALL for ME, and none for you... suckahs!!!! How many conservatives can buy into this junk is beyond me, but as Valeyard indicates, a lot of this nasty diatribing against the less fortunate is actively "preached" in many a mega-church, esp those espousing so-called "Christianist prosperity" gospel.
Not all people of faith are so vapid and mean-spirited, but sadly, far too many are these days, esp in the USA.
I have heard most of those sentences before... spouted about by my dittohead, "Prosperity" Christian rightwing fundie family members. Clearly it's propoganda that works in terms of getting them to "go along" with group-think.
Sigh....
"A liberal is someone who feels a great debt to his fellow man, which debt he proposes to pay off with your money. -- G. Gordon Liddy"
And G. Gordon Liddy is a convicted felon who plotted to assassinate journalists, firebomb liberal institutions, and somehow got out of prison with his anus intact, thereby proving the impossibility of a just, vengeful God.
"Can you think of a reason for not sharing this?
Neither could I......"
Cause they suck? Because wealth is not created in a vacuum?
