Fw: The Sneeze

"May your troubles be less, Your blessings more,
and may nothing but happiness come through your door"
  -- Billy Graham

They walked in tandem, each of the ninety-two students filing into the already crowded auditorium. With their rich maroon gowns flowing and the traditional caps, they looked almost as grown up as they felt.
Dads swallowed hard behind
broad smiles, and Moms freely brushed away tears.
This class would NOT pray during the commencements, not by choice, but because of a recent court ruling prohibiting it
The principal and several students were careful to stay within the guidelines allowed by the ruling. They gave inspirational and challenging speeches, but no one mentioned divine guidance and no one asked for blessings on the graduates or their families.
The speeches were nice, but they were routine until the final speech
received a standing ovation.
A solitary student walked proudly to the microphone. He stood still and silent for just a moment, and then, it happened.

All 92 students, every single one of them, suddenly SNEEZED !!!!

The student on stage simply looked at the audience and said,

'GOD BLESS YOU'

And he walked off the stage...

The audience exploded into applause. This graduating class had found a unique way to invoke God's blessing on their future with or without the court's approval.
Isn't this a wonderful story? Pass it on to all your friends..........and
GOD BLESS YOU!!!!

This is a true story; it happened at the University of Maryland .

Oh, how I wish THIS one would take off and FILL the whole Country!!

Sneeze for Jesus? Like any one of those kids couldn't pray to themselves the entire damn commencement.

Crap like this is so dumb.

Do rightwingers love the Bible or do they just think they love the Bible because they don't really know what it says?

They don't know their bible, at least not this part which tells them they are nothing but a bunch of hypocrites:

"And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are; for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men ... But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou has shut thy door, pray to the Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly." --Matthew 6:6

Thanks for the reference to appropriate Bible verses, up above. Most of these "Christian-y" types have never ever read a Bible in their lives and have no clue about the real teachings therein.

Why does anyone *need* to publically pray at a commencement ceremony? It's about celebrating your kid's scholastic achievement.

Yet another rightwing thinktank diatribe sent out to make conservatives feel constantly "attacked" and victimized in order to *distract* them from how they're being ripped off by the elites. Another way to pit credulous conservatives against the mean, nasty, unfair boogeyman leftist who is so totally *ruining* their lives.

Wake up sheeples.

my church has "Graduation Sunday" a day when that year's grads wear their robes to church and celebrate their acheivement, complete with thanks to parents, family, church and God. But the church never thanks the school or state for educating these kids. Because this and graduation are two different things.

Thanks, last Anon. I've been to similar Church services where graduates are honored, etc. And that's great! That's the way to handle this, if you are a person of faith. And/or do something similar at home with your family & friends.

Victimizing yourself because you cannot pray at a public educational event is bogus. If you feel so incredibly needy about praying at school, then save up your money and send your kid to a faith-based school. Some paraochial schools actually have good scholarships, if you don't have much money.

Stop trying to ram your faith & way of life down everyone's throats. There are other options readily available to meet your needs.

Gee, I wonder how these same conservatives would feel if the students in the audience had somehow contrived to shout out: "Praise Allah." Would these conservatives feel all smug & pious & self-righteously entitled to having that happen???

If not, why not?? Begs the question...

I've been out of loop for a while, but I'm pretty sure that students are still free to say "god bless you" to even a captive school audience. No trickery required. Way to play the victim though, good luck hammering in that last nail.
