Subject: Chilean rescue
To:

The only thing Muslims can do is beat up on their women of which they have more than one and strap high explosives on their body to blow up innocent children and people along with targets they deem worthy of destroying. The only Pulitzer prize Muslims have won is the one given to our dimwitted President!!!!!!

Looks to me like our illustrious  president   could brag on our country just a little bit to credit the folks responsible. I didn't see the middle east in that list anywhere. You know, our Muslim friends that helped make this country so great. (sic)

Far be it for an American President to publicly congratulate (let alone even mention) AMERICAN ingenuity and AMERICAN PRIVATE ENTERPRISE for the miracle rescue of the Chilean Miners.

Schramm Inc. of West Chester, Pennsylvania built the drills and equipment used to reach the trapped miners.

Center Rock Company, also from Pennsylvania, built the drill bits used to reach the miners.
UPS, the US shipping company, delivered the 13-ton drilling equipment from Pennsylvania to Chile in less than 48 hours.

Crews from Layne Christensen Company of Wichita Kansas and its subsidiary Geotec Boyles Bros. worked the drills and machinery to locate and reach the miners and then enlarge the holes to ultimately rescue them.

Jeff Hart of Denver Colorado was called off his job drilling water wells for the U.S. Army's forward operating bases in Afghanistan to lead the drilling crew that reached the miners.

Atlas Copco Construction Mining Company of Milwaukee, Wisconsin provided consulting on how to make drilling equipment from different sources work together under differing pressure specifications.

Aries Central California Video of Fresno California designed the special cameras that were lowered nearly a mile into the ground sending back video of the miners.

Zephyr Technologies of Annapolis Maryland, made the remote monitors of vital signs that miners will wear during their ascent.

NASA Engineers designed the "Phoenix" capsule that miners would be brought to the surface in, and provided medical consulting, special diets and spandex suits to maintain miners' blood pressure as they're brought back to the surface.

Oh, and Canadian-based Precision Drilling Corp. and South-African company Murray & Roberts, drilled  backup rescue shafts in case the American rig failed. Which it didn't.

So dimwitted that he mistakenly thought it was a Nobel Peace Prize, not a Pulitzer... oh wait. Something's not right here...

Wait, so NASA is private sector now? Aren't they part of the evil, no talent, tax wasting government?

Isn't this like praising the free sector when cops do their jobs because their uniforms, guns, and other tools are made by some company somewhere?

If the free market is so great, why were these poor bastards trapped in the bloody mine to begin with? Could it have something to do with the fact that their profit seeking, free market driven company didn't give a crap about their safety until the cameras were on, at which point the public sector stepped in to pay the tab and supervise their rescue?

It's all very well to praise the efforts of the US involvement with the Chilean mine disaster - whether such efforts were private or public sector.

But gratuitously bashing Muslims for no reason at the beginning - not to mention being almost completely wrong in what they're saying - is beyond the pale even for these reptilian brained creatures. And then, for "good measure," let's bash the efforts of some other companies from Canada and South Africa... because why not be as childishly assinine as possible?

Slow news day that you're back to very hostilely accusing Obama of being a Muslim when he's not (and so what if he was)??

The beastial brutality and abject ranting ignorance of this drek is cause for despair.

Assuming it's true (the part about the rescue operation, I mean), then is anybody else wondering about such things as, oh...
1) how much of the technology that made the rescue possible exists in the first place thanks to public research funding (direct or indirect)?
2) how many of the brains behind the technology were educated at tax-payer expense?
3) how much of the safety knowledge and training involved came into being due in part to union demands/OSHA regulations?
4) how many of the jobs that made it all possible have since been - or soon will be - shipped overseas?

I know I am.

Once again, the evolution of these forwards is fascinating. We can only speculate why someone thought that the evils of Muslims were relevant to the Chilean miners.

As others here have pointed out, THIS is why we have regulations and standard practices in the first place. And, in addition to regulations, the responsible agency needs to have the teeth to enforce them.

Where the GOP fails utterly is that when they're not putting foxes in charge of the henhouse (the list of corporate-interest conflicted agency heads appointed by Republicans is legion), they're gutting the regulatory power of these agencies such that they become woefully ineffective.

And then they point at the agency that they've nearly destroyed and bray about the public sector not working.

This has been going on since 1980 and people wonder why these disasters happen.

Let us not forget that democratically elected Chilean Salvador Allende was ousted from the Presidency in a CIA-backed military coup d'etat, which resulted in Allende being killed at the behest of US corporations (surprise, surprise, surprise).

Anaconda Copper, a US mining corproation, was one of the biggest of the Oligarchich Kleptocracy that pushed the Nixon Admin to oust and kill Allende when Allende nationalized the mines in Chile.

Wonder who owns the mine in Chile that collapsed. Wonder if it would've been run so poorly if the lawfully elected Allende administration had been permitted to run Chile at the will of the people.

These stooges can wank about "Team USA USA USA" and some US citizens' roles in the Chilean mining disaster. All very well. But all US citizens have a LOT of blood on their hands in terms of how the CIA has forced USA imperialism on Chile & Chilean citizens, whether they wanted it or not.

Frankly all US citizens are advised to do their homework and see exactly what did happen in Chile in the early 1970s because the exact same tactics are being used in the USA by the Kleptocracy.

Caveat emptor...
