Subject: Democrat senators almost win
Over
the weekend, we came four votes away from the United States Senate giving
away
our
Constitutional rights to the United Nations. In
a 53-46 vote, the senate narrowly passed a measure that will stop the United
States from entering into the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty.
The
Statement of Purpose from the bill read: To uphold Second Amendment rights and
prevent the United States from entering into the United Nations Arms Trade
Treaty..
The
U.N. Small Arms Treaty, which has been championed by the Obama Administration,
would have effectively placed a global ban on the import and export of small
firearms. The ban would have affected all private gun owners in the U.S., and
had language that would have implemented an international gun registry on all
private guns and ammo.
Astonishingly,
46 of our United States Senators were willing to give away our Constitutional
rights to a foreign power.

So much fail in this one.
As anyone with even a rudimentary knowledge of the Constitution knows, treaty ratification requires 2/3 of the Senate in order to pass. So no, we weren't "4 votes away" from anything.
In fact, this vote was nothing more than hollow, lying symbolism. It was a vote on whether or not the Senate would ever ratify the treaty. Guess what: even if it was 100-0 against voting to ratify it, that vote isn't binding on itself or subsequent Senates. They could have literally completed that vote and then changed their minds and immediately voted to ratify the treaty 100-0.
Then there's the fact that they are lying about the treaty itself, as gruaud points out. It does none of the things they say, ratifying it wouldn't violate the 2nd Amendment.
Is that really all wingnuts thinks it takes to get something passed, simply lie about it threatening the Constitution even when it doesn't?
Could the Senate ban puppies if they had a motion like this: "In order to uphold the Consitution we demand puppies be eliminated as they are a threat to public safety. Anyone who votes against this motion literally wants to throw out the Constitution".
