The United Nations issued a chilling report Wednesday detailing some other Islamic State atrocities. The victims aren't pilots or soldiers or journalists, but children. ISIS is routinely abducting boys and girls in Iraq, who are tortured, raped, and sold as sex slaves. Non-Islamic children have been crucified or buried alive, while others are used as suicide bombers or "human shields" to ward off air strikes.
Want more evidence of ISIS depravity? The UN reports that many of the children were "mentally challenged" to begin with, even before being subjected to "systematic sexual violence." The ISIS butchers seem to be even worse than the world had known, subhuman in the literal meaning of that overused term.
When it comes to body counts, ISIS is not close to Hitler, Stalin, and other 20th century villains.
But ISIS sure seems to take more pride in its evil.
The Nazis didn't announce to the world that cattle cars were transporting human beings to mass extermination camps; the Soviets tried to hide the fact (and did so, with the help of the New York Times) that millions of its citizens were being intentionally starved to death. But ISIS, apparently incapable of shame, proudly produces slick videos showing beheadings and immolation.
We can also compare the responses of world leaders. In 1938 Winston Churchill wrote "While England Slept," an attack on appeasement in general and Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain in particular. Then, in 1940, Churchill gave his first speech to the House of Commons after replacing Chamberlain. The nation's policy, he proclaimed, would be "to wage war against a monstrous tyranny, never surpassed in the dark, lamentable catalogue of human crime."
Well, now that ISIS is approaching Nazi-level degeneracy, the world looks to President Obama, who issues weak statements about "shrinking ISIL's sphere of influence." The president also sets the goal of "degrading" the Islamic State and turning it into a "manageable problem." Can you even begin to imagine Winston Churchill spewing that kind of pabulum?
There is at least one leader in the West who recognizes and identifies evil, perhaps because he studied in a Roman Catholic seminary and briefly considered the priesthood. Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott has identified ISIS as a "death cult" that is completely unashamed of its atrocities. "They absolutely revel in the killing," he said, while calling for "extreme force."
And then there is Abdullah ibn al-Hussein, a former special forces commander now known as King Abdullah of Jordan. The king sounded downright Churchillian this week when he vowed to pursue ISIS until his army "runs out of fuel and bullets." He then ordered the immediate execution of two Al Qaeda terrorists who had been languishing in Jordanian jails. Yes, at times it's good to be king.
Thankfully, we don't have a king who can order the immediate execution of prisoners. But we should be able to execute a plan that demands more than merely "degrading" the Islamic State and its mass murderers. 80 years ago the world looked away as madmen took over an entire country, then other countries. That chapter of history ended with a Holocaust and vows of "never again."
Well, something similar is happening again, thus far on a much smaller scale. Will strong, Churchill-like leaders rally the world against this pure evil? Or will the Chamberlain attitude prevail, where we consider making peace treaties with those who would behead, rape, and crucify our children?
During his recent sit down with NBC, President Obama defended his ISIS strategy with eight words: "Anything we could be doing," he insisted, "we are doing." Does anyone believe that?
Anyone?
The crisis is no longer approaching, Mr. President. It has arrived.

Frosty fatwa: Saudi cleric bans snowmen

Do you want to build a snowman? You'd love to? Well, that's too bad — at least according to Saudi Arabia's Sheikh Mohammed Saleh al-Munajjid, a prominent cleric.
With snow covering the highland areas of Tabuk province in Saudi Arabia, there's not much else to do with the fluffy white stuff other than build snowmen and snow camels.
But with photos of snowpeople and snow camels popping up everywhere, Munajjid made it clear that Islamic teachings strictly prohibit the practice.
Asked whether the unusually snowy winter in Saudi Arabia meant that parents could build snowmen with their children, Munajjid delivered the bad news.
"It is not permitted to make a statue out of snow, even by way of play and fun," Munajjid wrote on his Web site, according to Reuters.
He also pointed out that making images of humans and animals — anything with a "soul" — is strictly off-limits.
"God has given people space to make whatever they want which does not have a soul, including trees, ships, fruits, buildings and so on," he added.
If you think that sounds slightly depressing, you're not alone.
“We have snow for fleeting days, maybe even hours, and there is always someone who wants to rob us of the joy and the fun,” wrote a blogger identified by Gulf News as Mishaal. “It seems that the only thing left for us is to sit down and drink coffee."
But Munajjid has his supporters.
"It [building snowmen] is imitating the infidels, it promotes lustiness and eroticism," wrote one person, according to Reuters.
In the wake of the raucous debate on social media sparked by his fatwa, Munajjid weighed in again and walked back his comments — sort of.
On Twitter, Munajjid noted that snow objects can be made, so long as they don't have human or animal features. Specifically, a model with no head and obliterated features is perfectly fine.
“The model should be like the scarecrow with no features sculpted into the face that is used by farmers to scare away birds,” he wrote, according to Gulf News. “It could also be similar to some shapes that are used to warn people about roadworks. There is no problem with the shapes that children build since children need to play and to have fun, especially in areas where snowfall is scarce."
And for those who were wondering, the prohibitions also apply to gingerbread men and other human-shaped winter treats.
“The ban, condoned by religious scholars, also covers models of people and animals made of sweets and paste, not just snow, if their facial features are clearly sculpted,” Munajjid added. “This means that if the model has no head or the facial features are obliterated, then there is no ban on it."
Sounds like a blast.

McCain: Michael Moore's 'Sniper' comments 'idiotic,' 'outrageous'
Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) took aim at Michael Moore on Wednesday, saying the documentary maker's comments on military snipers were "idiotic."
Conservatives have slammed the controversial filmmaker after he tweeted earlier this month that his uncle was killed by a sniper during World War II and "we were taught snipers were cowards." He mentioned snipers may shoot their targets in the back and "aren't heroes."
"Sometimes when I hear an idiotic statement like that from someone like Michael Moore I don't want to dignify it with a response because it's so outrageous," McCain, the Senate Armed Services Committee chairman, said in an interview with CNBC on Wednesday.
"That's like saying we should not use airplanes, we should not use tanks, we should not use any other weapon. What does he want us to do, go back to hand-to-hand fighting?" McCain said.
Moore's tweet caused a firestorm last week amid praise for the blockbuster hit "American Sniper," which tells the story of the late Chris Kyle. The Navy SEAL is credited with the most kills in American history, and the movie follows his work as a sniper during four tours in Iraq.
Moore defended himself in a Facebook post Sunday, writing that "only 'haters' of our brave young men and women would recklessly send them into harm's way for something that had absolutely nothing to do with defending the United States of America."
In a statement on Monday, McCain praised the controversial film, congratulating director Clint Eastwood and his cast for "an outstanding cinematic achievement."
"This film depicts with subtlety and compassion those brave few who serve our nation in uniform, their experiences in the horror of war, the burdens they often bear upon returning home, and the untold sacrifices of their families," he wrote.
"It is deeply regrettable that obsessive critics of U.S. foreign policy have sought to disparage this film and denigrate the memory of a noble American warrior," he added.
Asked Wednesday on CNBC's "Squawk Box" if he had seen the film, McCain said he hasn't yet but intends to "as soon as possible."
The Oscar-nominated film earned $200.1 million in the box office through Sunday and has been a hit among audiences, scoring a 7.7 out of 10 stars on IMDB and 72 percent approval on the Rotten Tomatoes review site.
McCain explained that snipers "save the lives of others of their comrades because they are able to neutralize or take out an enemy that's been destroying them."
The veteran lawmaker, who was held as a prisoner of war during the Vietnam War, said regarding Moore's tweet that it was "a great disservice to say that about so many of our young men and women who are serving in the Marines, in the Army, and many of them are scout snipers, so it's almost insulting to them."

The movie America Sniper was very graphic, thought provoking, moving and makes one so thankful to be an American. It also reinforces how much we should appreciate & pray for our service men & women and their families....

I just wanted to share with you all that out of a horrible tragedy we were blessed by so many people.Chris Kyle was Derek's teammate through 10 years of training and battle. They both suffer/suffered from PTSD to some extent and took great care of each other because of it.2006 in Ramadi was horrible for young men that never had any more aggressive physical contact with another human than on a Texas football field.They lost many friends. Chris became the armed services number #1 sniper of all time. Not something he was happy about, other than the fact that in so doing, he saved a lot of American lives.Three years ago, his wife Taya asked him to leave the SEAL teams as he had a huge bounty on his head by Al Qaeda. He did and wrote the book "The American Sniper." 100% of the proceeds from the book went to two of the SEAL families who had lost their sons in Iraq .That was the kind of guy Chris was. He formed a company in Dallas to train military, police and I think firemen as far as protecting themselves in difficult situations. He also formed a foundation to work with military people suffering from PTSD. Chris was a giver not a taker.He, along with a friend and neighbor, Chad Littlefield, were murdered trying to help a young man that had served six months in Iraq and claimed to have PTSD.Now I need to tell you about all of the blessings.Southwest Airlines flew in any SEAL and their family from any airport they flew into...free of charge.The employees donated buddy passes and one lady worked for four days without much of a break to see that it happened.Volunteers were at both airports in Dallas to drive them to the hotel.The Marriott Hotel reduced their rates to $45 a night and cleared the hotel for only SEAL's and family.The Midlothian, TX Police Department paid the $45 a night for each room. I would guess there were about 200 people staying at the hotel, 100 of them were SEAL's. Two large buses were chartered (an unknown donor paid the bill) to transport people to the different events and they also had a few rental cars (donated). The police and secret service were on duty 24 hours during the stay at our hotel.At the Kyle house, the Texas DPS parked a large motor home in front to block the view from reporters. It remained there the entire five days for the SEAL's to congregate in and all to use the restroom so as not to have to go in the house. Taya, their two small children and both sets of parents were staying in the home.Only a hand full of SEAL's went into the home as they had different duties and meetings were held sometimes on a hourly basis. It was a huge coordination of many different events and security. Derek was assigned to be a Pall Bearer, to escort Chris' body when it was transferred from the Midlothian Funeral Home to the Arlington Funeral Home, and to be with Taya. A tough job.Taya seldom came out of her bedroom. The house was full with people from the church and other family members that would come each day to help. I spent one morning in a bedroom with Chris’ mom and the next morning with Chad Littlefield's parents (the other man murdered with Chris). A tough job.George W Bush and his wife Laura met and talked to everyone on the Seal Team one on one. They went behind closed doors with Taya for quite a while. They had prayer with us all. You can tell when people were sincere and caringNolan Ryan sent his cooking team, a huge grill and lots of steaks, chicken and hamburgers. They set up in the front yard and fed people all day long including the 200 SEAL's and their families. The next day a local BBQ restaurant set up a buffet in front of the house and fed all once again. Food was plentiful and all were taken care of. The family's church kept those inside the house well fed.Jerry Jones, the man everyone loves to hate, was a rock star. He made sure that we all were taken care of. His wife and he were just making sure everyone was taken care of….Class... He donated the use of Cowboy Stadium for the services as it was determined that so many wanted to attend.The charter buses transported us to the stadium on Monday at 10:30 am. Every car, bus, motorcycle was searched with bomb dogs and police. I am not sure if kooks were making threats trying to make a name for themselves or if so many SEAL's in one place was a security risk, I don't know. We willingly obliged. No purses went into the stadium!We were taken to The Legends room high up and a large buffet was available. That was for about 300 people. We were growing.A Medal of Honor recipient was there, lots of secret service and police and Sarah Palin and her husband. She looked nice, this was a very formal military service.The service started at 1:00 pm and when we were escorted onto the field I was shocked. We heard that about 10,000 people had come to attend also. They were seated in the stadium seats behind us. It was a beautiful and emotional service.The Bagpipe and drum corps were wonderful and the Texas A&M men's choir stood through the entire service and sang right at the end. We were all in tears.The next day was the 200-mile procession from Midlothian, TX to Austin for burial. It was a cold, drizzly, windy day, but the people were out. We had dozens of police motorcycles riders, freedom riders, five chartered buses and lots of cars. You had to have a pass to be in the procession and still it was huge. Two helicopters circled the procession with snipers sitting out the side door for protection. It was the longest funeral procession ever in the state of Texas. People were everywhere. The entire route was shut down ahead of us, the people were lined up on the side of the road the entire way. Firemen were down on one knee, police officers were holding their hats over their hearts, children waving flags, veterans saluting as we went by. Every bridge had fire trucks with large flags displayed from their tall ladders, people all along the entire 200 miles were standing in the cold weather. It was so heartwarming. Taya rode in the hearse with Chris' body so Derek rode the route with us. I was so grateful to have that time with him.The service was at Texas National Cemetery. Very few are buried there and you have to apply to get in. It is like people from the Civil War, Medal of Honor winners, a few from the Alamo and all the historical people of Texas. It was a nice service and the Freedom Riders surrounded the outside of the entire cemetery to keep the crazy church people from Kansas that protest at military funerals away from us.Each SEAL put his Trident (metal SEAL badge) on the top of Chris' casket, one at a time. A lot hit it in with one blow. Derek was the only one to take four taps to put his in and it was almost like he was caressing it as he did it. Another tearful moment.After the service Governor Rick Perry and his wife, Anita, invited us to the governor's mansion. She stood at the door, greeted each of us individually, and gave each of the SEAL's a coin of Texas. She was a sincere, compassionate, and gracious hostess.We were able to tour the ground floor and then went into the garden for beverages and BBQ. So many of the Seal team guys said that after they get out they are moving to Texas. They remarked that they had never felt so much love and hospitality. The charter buses then took the guys to the airport to catch their returning flights. Derek just now called and after a 20 hours flight he is back in his spot, in a dangerous land on the other side of the world, protecting America.We just wanted to share with you, the events of a quite emotional, but blessed week.Punch-line:To this day, no one in the White House has ever acknowledged Chris Kyle.However, the President can call some sport person and congratulate him on announcing to the world that he is gay? What the hell is happening to our

1. America is capitalist and greedy - yet half of the population is subsidized.
2. Half of the population is subsidized - yet they think they are victims.
3. They think they are victims - yet their representatives run the government.
4.Their representatives run the government - yet the poor keep getting poorer.
5. The poor keep getting poorer - yet they have things that people in other countries only dream about.
6. They have things that people in other countries only dream about - yet they want America to be more like those other countries.
Think about it! And that, my friends, pretty much sums up the USA in the 21st Century. Makes you wonder who is doing the math and the thinking.
These three, short sentences tell you a lot about the direction of our current government and cultural environment:
1. We are advised to NOT judge ALL Muslims by the actions of a few lunatics, but we are encouraged to judge ALL gun owners by the actions of a few lunatics. Funny how that works.
And here's another one worth considering...
2. Seems we constantly hear about how Social Security is going to run out of money. How come we never hear about welfare or food stamps running out of money? What's interesting is the first group "worked for" their money, but the second didn't.
Think about it..... and last, but not least,
3. Why are we cutting benefits for our veterans, no pay raises for our military and cutting our army to a level lower than before WWII, but we are not stopping the payments or benefits to illegal aliens?
Am I the only one missing something?

Obama has done it again, and the media aren't reporting it -- again!
This time the world's smartest man (we know this because of that crisp crease in his pants, right David Brooks?) said this to a fawning rumpswab from National Public Radio:
"Tehran is a large, sophisticated country that has a track record of state-sponsored terrorism."
Tehran? There's an old joke that one man's Mede is another man's Persian, but have you ever heard of anyone mixing up "Tehran" and "Iran"? It happens about as often as a Christian who mistakenly describes himself as Muslim forgets he's a Christian, or upon landing in Hawaii says he's glad to be visiting "Asia."
What language do they speak in Tehran -- Tehranese? How do you get there -- on the "Intercontinental Railroad?" (Remember when Barack confused "Intercontinental" with "Transcontinental"? Apparently there was no "corpse-man" in the audience to correct him.)
This Tehran faux pas happened Dec. 18, in Obama's end-of-the-year interview with NPR. I assume Fox got one of those too, right? Anyway, NPR sat on the interview until Monday, when they released a transcript.
Not the audio, you understand, the stuff that could be used on TV or the radio to make sport of the guy who thinks they speak Austrian in Austria. They released a transcript. But don't worry, NPR is going to put out the audio -- this morning, on New Year's Eve.
Why would any media outlet sit on audio gold until one of the absolute slowest news days of the year? That's a rhetorical question, of course. We all know the answer -- it's NPR. They're Obama's fellow travelers.
(I will play the audio on my radio show this afternoon, unless of course before it's posted NPR suffers some kind of hard-drive crash like the one that destroyed Lois Lerner's IRS emails ... er, never mind.)
The Tehran misstatement seems to have been first reported not in any U.S. newspaper, but in the Daily Mail of London, which lets the chips fall where they may, Political Correctness be damned.
Good old Obama, the guy who says he bowls like he's in the Special Olympics, who thinks the Packers play at Lambert Field, who believes the team that beat BC at Yankee Stadium Saturday night is the "Nitally Lions," who once wrote on ESPN that the Orangemen play at "Syracus," whose favorite baseball team plays at "Cominsky Field," even though he can't name a single White Sox player of the past or present ....
Nothing to see here, comrades, move along. Just ask NPR.
