Dr. Thomas Sowell is an American intellectual giant. He is a Senior Fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University born in NC, but raised in Harlem. Educated at Harvard, Colombia and Chicago. He is an economist who has taught at Cornell, Brandeis, The Urban Institution, UCLA and now at Stanford.

RWD likes Thomas Sowell for the same reason he likes Ben Carson -- here's a black man who is saying all the stupid things RWD thinks and believes. This lets him pretend liberals are the real racists, for not agreeing with Sowell, or Carson.
It's like when the GOP nominates a woman -- Sarah Palin, for instance. When liberals continued to reject stupid ideas *even* *when* a woman said them, why, that meant we were the real sexists.
The notion that someone might evaluate an idea honestly, irrespective of who said it, is so foreign to RWD.
Sowell is quite old now. Perhaps he was an "intellectual giant" about economics--if you love the Milton Friedman school of economics. However my only knowledge of him was through his newspaper column which my local newspaper ran for the last several years. In those columns Sowell tried his best, through tortured logic, to link Pres. Obama to anything and everything bad in the world -- past or present. They were examples of truly bad logic. Sowell didn't care much for Trump though and I'm sure his election had something to do with Sowell's retirement from writing this past January.
His comment on "entitlements" is pretty odd, given his academic credentials.
Entitlements are earned benefits. You get them because you have paid for them. They are not handouts.
