Conundrum

Free people are not equal.  Equal people are not free.

"A gun is like a parachute.  If you need one, and don't have one, you'll probably never need one again."

The definition of the word Conundrum:   something that is puzzling or confusing.

Here are six Conundrums of socialism in the United States of America:

1. America is capitalist and greedy - yet half of the population is subsidized.

2. Half of the population is subsidized - yet they think they are victims.

3. They think they are victims - yet their representatives run the government.

4. Their representatives run the government - yet the poor keep getting poorer.

5. The poor keep getting poorer - yet they have things that people in other countries only dream about.

6. They have things that people in other countries only dream about - yet they want America to be more like those other countries.

Think about it! And that, my friends, pretty much sums up the USA in the 21st Century.

Makes you wonder who is doing the math.

These three, short sentences tell you a lot about the direction of our current government and cultural environment:

1. We are advised NOT  to judge ALL Muslims by the actions of a few lunatics, but we are encouraged to judge ALL gun owners by the actions of a few lunatics.

Funny how that works.  And here's another one worth considering...

2. Seems we constantly hear about how Social Security is going to run out of money.  But we never hear about welfare or food stamps running out of money?  What's interesting is the first group "worked for" their money, but the second didn't.

Think about it.....and Last but not least:

3. Why are we cutting benefits for our veterans, no pay raises for our military and cutting our army to a level lower than before WWII, but we are not stopping the payments or benefits to illegal aliens.

MAKE A DIFFERENCE ----REMEMBER TO VOTE IN NOVEMBER!!!!!!

Careful: extremely flammable strawman. No smoking in this area.

Wow. I could write a 1000 pages on this one, but I'll try to keep it relatively brief:

1. America is capitalist and greedy - yet half of the population is subsidized.

It's more than half, given that most of us have subsidized mortgages. There's lots of subsidy at the top, you know.

2. Half of the population is subsidized - yet they think they are victims.

A large portion of the population are victims - of the 1% and their lobbyists.

3. They think they are victims - yet their representatives run the government.

The victims are the poor; they have no representatives in government. They certainly don't have representatives who run it.

4. Their representatives run the government - yet the poor keep getting poorer.

See above.

5. The poor keep getting poorer - yet they have things that people in other countries only dream about.

Yes, compared to Somalia or Zimbabwe, even the poorest among us live fairly well.

6. They have things that people in other countries only dream about - yet they want America to be more like those other countries.

No one wants America to be like Somalia or Zimbabwe. People want America to be like Germany or France, where the standard of living is higher, infrastructure is better, the healthcare is universal and the gap between the rich and the poor is smaller.

1. We are advised NOT to judge ALL Muslims by the actions of a few lunatics, but we are encouraged to judge ALL gun owners by the actions of a few lunatics.

Gun owners aren't a few lunatics; they're a lot of lunatics. 85 Americans die at the hands of gun owners daily. Muslims don't kill that many Americans in a year.

2. Seems we constantly hear about how Social Security is going to run out of money. But we never hear about welfare or food stamps running out of money? What's interesting is the first group "worked for" their money, but the second didn't.

We pay for food stamps and welfare out of general taxes. We can always adjust tax rates to cover those things. We could also adjust tax rates to cover Social Security shortfalls, if it weren't for the fact that one of our political parties wants to eliminate the program altogether.

3. Why are we cutting benefits for our veterans, no pay raises for our military and cutting our army to a level lower than before WWII, but we are not stopping the payments or benefits to illegal aliens.

We don't give payments or benefits to illegal aliens.

Done. I'm sure the other regulars will be here shortly to fill in any gaps I might have missed.

Good job Charlie. Never have so many strawmen, false equivalencies and correlation/causation errors been preset in a RWF.

Agree with prior comments. However, the biggest LIE in this entire RW think tank propaganda screed is the following:

Make a Difference - Remember to Vote in November!!!

I always vote, esp for ballot referendums & initiatives, plus some offices are the state and local level may result in someone who isn't totally corrupted getting into office.

But at the Fed level? Yeah, right. Like it matters if Candidate A from UniParty Branch R "wins" v. Candidate B from UniParty Branch D "wins."

Outcomes already determined in advance. Per usual, I recommend, where possible, to vote what is misleadingly labeled "third" party.

1. America is capitalist and greedy - yet half of the population is subsidized.

I don't know if half the population is "subsidized" or not (whatever "subsidized" means anyway). There are tax breaks and write-offs for those who are better off, such as mortgage interest deductions (which Obama and Congress have considered eliminating), fed tax deductions for having kids (which is a "break" for anyone with kids), plus anyone who owns securities only pays 15% Capital gains tax (a real break for anyone), etc.

Those in the middle class can also contribute to ROTH IRAs with taxed income. The earnings from ROTHS are not taxed, and at this point, ROTH IRA owners can withdraw (or not) the cash on their own schedule. This is a big break for middle class income earners. However, Obama and the Ds in Congress have proposed at least twice that ROTH IRA owners will lose the "perk" of not having a required minimum distribution (and forcing ROTH IRA owners to have a RWD at 70 & half, which can have tax implications for seniors).

Is this what this deliberately-not-very-clear RWF means by "subsidies"? Who the Eff knows? Because there's lots of subsidies out there, and News Flash! It's not just poor people who get them.

But let's not trade in reality or quibble over petty details.

IMO, it's the mega-wealthy and the corporations who are subsidized the most (causing the biggest detriment to our nation), and clearly - in reading this propaganda - are the hugest victimizing whiners of all times (recall Mitt RMoney and his whiney 47%er complaint on the campaign trail. That Mitt RMoney who refused to share his tax records, except for ONE year where he only paid 17% in taxes...).

Here's a little tidbit about how most megacorporations pay nothing in taxes, and the IRS has no plans to go after them:

Think it's just horrid that some poor person gets Food Stamps? Really? Really????

The GOP party and FOX have literally been conditioning people for decades.

This just another example.

I tuned out at:
Free people are not equal. Equal people are not free.

Tell that to the average Joe who loses his job because Wall Street played games with billions of dollars.

Tell that to the woman who couldn't vote or own property.

Tell that to slaves "freed" but left with no education, no money, and no opportunity except what they could scrape out for themselves.
