JOHN MCNAUGHTON PAINTING

***NEW MCNAUGHTON PAINTING***

It's called, "The Demise of America"

Many Americans today feel a sense of dismay and horror as we see our country in a downward spiral; both economically, morally, and politically. President Obama's indifferent attitude and the continuous list of scandals and bad policy are leading the country to ruin.

As an artist I am reminded of the old saying "Nero fiddled while Rome burned." History believes that Nero himself may have set the great fire that burned a part of Rome during his leadership. Afterword's, he blamed it on the Christians who suffered great persecution under his rule. I see great similarities to what we are experiencing today. Obama fiddled, while the people witnessed the demise of America .

So wait, is he fiddling and indifferent or is he actively working to cause the downfall of America? It would really be helpful if wingnuts could get their narratives straight.

Then again, if this is what they consider "art" I guess I shouldn't have very high hopes for them.

Isn't this the same wing-nut who drew the "Jesus Wrote the Constitution" painting?

Yes, it's been horrible the way that the president has come up with one piece of terrible legislation after another, with Congress simply offering a rubber stamp of approval.

Oh, wait. That was the last guy. The current president is the one who can't get any legislation passed because the Republicans are blocking everything.

Remind me again - Who is doing the damage in Washington?

Well, I think we know what color the sky is on McNaughton's planet.

John McNaugton: the only "artist" who manages to make Thomas Kincaid (RIP) look partially like a real artist.

Ain't it amusing how conservatives, mainly, love love love both of these "artists"??

Much as I hate to admit it, I agree with John McNaugton's words (or at least what's attributed to him here). America is in demise.

That said, attributing this demise solely to one President is where this whole thing falls apart. Skipping for the moment the crappy rendering, McNaughten makes a sort of point... but the true meaning is lost in the usual pandering to rightwing racism and authoritarian identification with "my team uber alles."

There are tons of problems in the USA, but the problems eminate from a broken system, which is populated by parasites & crony capitalists in Wash DC, including not just the Executive Branch, but the Legislative & Judicial Branch as well.

This simplistic blaming of one Pres for ALL the ills around us represents the co-dependency of most citizens, but most especially those on the right, on what is inherentaly a broken system.

As long as all citizens continue to engage in an authoritarian, team-sport approach to politics, nothing will get fixed... and the ills under which we suffer will go on & on.

This kind of shit only "works" if you're easily satisfied by blaming one person for all ills and ENJOYING being a perennial VICTIM, which, sadly, is exactly what conservatives, especially, have been carefully taught to do.

I would add to Hooray's comment:

The corporate-controlled, conservative-friendly media (pretty much all of it these days with a couple of notable exceptions) panders heavily and relentlessly to the team sport paradigm.

Any conservative is given a platform to catapult their viewpoints, no matter how outlandish or toxic. Liberals are given the scraps, if any.

Not to mention my most favorite media theme of all, the 'both-sides-do-it' crap. A perfect cover to justify the obvious extremism on the right.
