LOL.

You conservatives HATED Martin Luther King Jr. and opposed civil rights kicking and screaming all the way.

I'm old enough to remember.

Sorry, no. Wingnuts don't get to claim MLK's memory after spending the last half century fighting against everything he stood for. You don't get to invoke MLK's legacy when your party has elected officials who think the Civil Rights act was a bad idea that they wouldn't have voted for.

You are wrong. It was Democrats who opposed the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Democrat senators filibustered the legislation. 40% of House Democrats voted Nay while only 20% of Republicans did so. It was a Democrat who imprisoned Japanese Americans in internment camps during WWII. An let's not forget Senator Robert Byrd of the KKK a good lefty Democrat. Republicans were and alway have been champions of civil rights legislation. More leftist revisionist history.

Who's wrong? Nobody has mentioned Democrats or Republicans. Conservatives, whichever party they were in, opposed civil rights and MLK.

Yup, it was that famous Republican LBJ who worked so hard get the Civil Rights act passed and signed into law. Just like if was that famed Republican Harry Truman who desegregated the Armed forces.

Yes, and then all of those Republicans became Democrats, and vice versa! Go do yourself a favor and look up "Southern Strategy", and you'll see how Republicans used the passage of the civil rights act to reshape their party to appeal to the resentment of southern conservative whites and got them to switch parties.

An let's not forget Senator Robert Byrd of the KKK a good lefty Democrat.

Which he later recanted and spent the rest of his life apologizing for. He grew up white in WV in the early 20th century, where the Klan was as ubiquitous as the Rotary club. Thankfully he saw the error of this way of life and spent the rest of his long life championing civil rights. Call it growth, call it redemption, call it whatever, but it did happen.

Republicans were and alway have been champions of civil rights legislation.

Is that why they are trying their best to assault civil liberties on every front these days?

You are a fool. Guess which Democrats opposed Civil Rights? All of the Dixie dems; in other words, the confederates. And after the Civil Rights act was passed in 1964, guess who migrated to the GOP in droves? And, ultimately, guess who's been purged from the GOP? All of the moderate Republicans who stood with Lincoln.

Lincoln would be appalled at the GOP today.

I know I am.

Oh please! To be redundant, most here know that I'm no fan of Barack Obama, but I could give a rat's patoot about the color of his skin.

This site highlights daily the ongoing vile, vicious, nasty and sometimes deeply disturbing racism of today's very loud & proud conservatives.

Now they want to "claim" MLK? I don't think so.

Now Anonymous wants to "claim" that conservatives "defend civil rights"???? Pull the other one, please, and go talk to Sandra Fluke about her civil rights that are being so vigourously "defended" by conservatives right now.

Go talk to lesbians, gays, transgenders and bisexuals about how conservatives are so profoundly "defending" their civil rights.

For that matter, go talk to any Hispanic or African American about how they see conservatives "defending" their civil rights.

Wake up to reality... nice to live in some fantasy world where you think you're Mr or Ms Nice Guy/Gal... too bad it's not true, but hey: keep clapping louder for tinkerbell!

How are Sandra Fluke's civil rights being stepped on by conservatives?

How are gays, transgenders, bisexuals civil rights being stepped on by conservatives?

How are Hispanic or African American people's civil rights being stepped on by conservatives?

Give some SPECIFIC examples not "because I said so" as I see here most often. Alright c'mon make something up.

"How are Sandra Fluke's civil rights being stepped on by conservatives?"

You mean besides the decades-old attempts to regulate a woman's ability to control her own body via access to birth control pills and reproductive services? I guess being called a "slut" on national radio by the mouthpiece of the GOP for simply testifying in front of congress doesn't count.

"How are gays, transgenders, bisexuals civil rights being stepped on by conservatives?"

See Lawrence v. Texas and Proposition 8.

"How are Hispanic or African American people's civil rights being stepped on by conservatives?"

Seriously? Are you fucking kidding me? Secure the border? Less than 3% of the Canadian border is secure. Don't see too many conservatives fretting about that. English as our official national language? Hmm, can't imagine who that might be directed at.

Because she's paying for a service (health insurance) with her premiums but being denied the full use of that service because of irrelevant religious objections.

How are gays, transgenders, bisexuals civil rights being stepped on by conservatives?

Not so much "stepped on" as "trampled and then run the fuck over with a tank over and over again".

Seriously? Do you have not fucking clue about how the GOP treats gays like scum?

How are Hispanic or African American people's civil rights being stepped on by conservatives?

Well thankfully they are doing it a little less today, since judges have blocked the draconian voter ID laws in Texas and Wisconsin.

Jesus, Con-anon is such a fucking tool. Hey con-anon, none of the pretty great responses will make ANY SENSE to you because you are so fucking...umm...challenged.

That's ok. You and your fellow confederate brainiacs are lost to us.

But we don't care about the 27'% , so win for you!!!

Fucking confederate dummy.

Seriously, Wingnuts didn't like MLK any better than BHO. Be honest, now.
