Subject: Fw: Union Funds

Just in case anyone wonders why Obama and his friends are so hot to support labor unions, particularly government employee unions, check out union contributions:

Gee, why don't unions donate to the party that thinks they're the devil and wants to wipe them off the face of the earth? I can't figure it out!

If we really want to talk about buying politicians, let's check out how much Max Baucus made killing health care reform.

Now lets look at the numbers for big business and big business funded front groups like FeedomWorks. I'm sure their contributions are totally fair and equal...

If workers get together, form a union, pay dues out of their paychecks, and donate the money to politicians they think will defend their interests, it's EVIL!

If billionaires and for-profit corporations donate money to politicians they think will support their interests, it's just FREE SPEECH!

Why is one evil and one good?

No idea.

But when you're a Republican - particularly a working schmuck who gets nothing from the party but keeps voting for them anyway - logic is NOT required. This is the Republican mind at work.

Three words will solve the problem of big money buying politicians:

Campaign Finance Reform

Just Kidding! Repub's don't really want to stop big money from buying THEIR candidates. They just want to stop unions from contributing to the Dems. Then there will be no big money supporting Dems and we can finally have the most efficient, patriotic system known to humanity... A One Party Country! With no choices, and lots of obedient people. Hooray for Authoritarianism ;)

Unions are traditionally supporters of Democrats because the Democrats are traditionally the labor party.

The republicans think if they can bust unions and/or turn people away from unions, they will be able to win elections while still in the minority.

So if you are a blue collar worker and vote republican, you've been badly, badly duped. Republicans will ALWAYS side with management over labor. Every damned time.

Wow! 'Cause corporations never attempt to influence a party, politician or candidate, right?

Far from being wary of being seen as corporate shills, these pinheads are doubling down on the hypocrisy with gusto. I imagine they don't see it that way though. To them, corporate/business is the 'Murkin way and therefore the natural order of things. Unions are the commie soshulists [sic]

Wow, in 20 years the biggest union contributed 40 million dollars.

Last year, in an off year election, Crossroads GPS spends 17 million dollars on Republicans. That's just ONE Republican front group, in one year, empowered by the Citizens United decision.

Yup, the unions are really the threat here.

WOW let's bamboozle the credulous with only ONE set of figures showing some of Union donations to Democrats. Consevarubes'll be happier than pigs in shit and never ever stop to think about:

- corporate donations to Republicans and/or to Democrats and/or to the Green Party

- union donations to Republican candidates (just ask Meg Whitman how much the two CA Prison Guard unions donated to her campaign to run for CA gov)

- how much David Koch is funding his rightwing think tank to send out dis-information like this to T-GOPers who'll "buy it" simply bc it appears to villify so-called "Democrats" booga booga

- the US Supreme Court decision "Citizens United" which granted corporations the same status as sentient humans in terms of political donations, thus making corporate donations to political campaigns much less transparent than Union donations (why how very very convenient of the Supremes... wonder who bought them off???).

Talk about a huge giant sucking DUH!

Good eye, Anon. $2 mil a year is pocket change in elections these days.

This chart is misleading. Just stating the sum total cash amounts of what Unions contributed to "A Party" is so broad as to be meaningless. Next time, send a email as to what each individual on say, a Banking committee or a ways and Means committee recieved over a 2-4 year election cycle. And for good measure place the voted on or earmarks those members introduced. If you do that you may have an interesting email. Unions and anyone with money knows Washington is for sale.
