Fw: ONLY 31 WORDS -- Think about it.

Isn't life strange? I never met one Veteran who enlisted to fight for Socialism.
86% will send this on.

I PLEDGE ALLEGIANCE TO THE FLAG,

OF THE  UNITED STATES OF AMERICA ,

AND TO THE REPUBLIC FOR WHICH IT STANDS,

ONE NATION UNDER GOD,

INDIVISIBLE, WITH  LIBERTY AND JUSTICE FOR ALL!

If Muslims can pray in Madison Avenue, why are Christians banned from praying in public and erecting religious displays on their holy days?

I was asked to send this on if I agree, or delete if I don't. It is said that 86% of Americans believe in God.

Therefore I have a very hard time understanding why there is such a problem in having 'In God! We Trust' on our money and having 'God' in the Pledge of Allegiance.

I believe it's time we stand up for what we believe!

If you agree, pass this on, if not, delete.

Time for a little history lesson!

"The Pledge of Allegiance was written in August 1892 by the socialist minister Francis Bellamy (1855-1931). Bellamy had hoped that the pledge would be used by citizens in any country."

Written by - gasp! - an honest-to-goodness SOCIALIST! A Christian one, to be sure, and yet....

"In its original form it read: 'I pledge allegiance to my Flag and the Republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.'"

Huh, that's funny! Only 22 words! And none of them are "God"! How can it be???

"In 1923, the words, "the Flag of the United States of America" were added. At this time it read: 'I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.'"

Wow, the words "United States" didn't even get added until later!

"In 1954, in response to the Communist threat of the times, President Eisenhower encouraged Congress to add the words "under God," creating the 31-word pledge we say today. Bellamy's daughter objected to this alteration. Today it reads: 'I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.'"

So there you have it. That pledge you're so crazy about? It's a mangled version of something a SOCIALIST wrote, and the whole "God" part came later - despite the fact that the original author was a Christian, he left God out.

The world's a much more complicated place than you think, isn't it?

Oh, and by the way...if you've never met a veteran who fought for socialism, you haven't talked to a very wide range of veterans at all.

Sorry about the facts, I know they aren't what you righties want. Go back under you're rock now, I'm sure you're happier there.

The biggest goddamned frauds are the "more-patriotic-than-thou".

So tired of their lame act.

And when (not if) they force us to recite the pledge of allegiance at supermarket checkout lines, while TSA thugs fondle our genitals or stick a probe up our asses, you'll think we've hit rock fucking bottom.

Except it won't be rock bottom, will it?

As a liberal, atheist veteran, according to these people, I don't exist. And while I don't consider myself a socialist, based on the things I support, (progressive taxation, a strong social safety net including single-payer health care, strong regulations on the market, worker rights, etc.) they would certainly consider me so.

Isn't it ironic that the US military is a very socialist organizaton? Guess u don't have to fight for what u already have.

They aren't. Christians are free to build their shrines and pray wherever they want. They just cant do so on public property or with public funds. Which is a rule that applies to every religion.

Therefore I have a very hard time understanding why there is such a problem in having 'In God! We Trust' on our money and having 'God' in the Pledge of Allegiance.

You mean besides the constitutional principle of separation of church and state? Actually I know a lot of religious people who would be uncomfortable with both of these things. Many feel that the name of God should not be spelled out at all out of reverence. Others feel it debases God. I'm pretty sure it was Teddy Roosevelt who asked why you would want to put the holy name of God onto something as dirty and common as money.

I never met one Veteran who enlisted to fight for Socialism.

Perhaps you should try and meet some Russian soldiers. 20 million of them died to defeat the Nazis.

Wow, forwarding around the Pledge of Allegiance?

I'm going to assume that in Stage 2, militias of sovereign citizens come around and citizen's arrest anyone who didn't forward it.

I've known several soldiers who enlisted not to fight for socialism, per se, but to get socialized medicine for a family member whose medical costs were unsustainable in the civilian world.
Here's just one example (not someone I personally know):

To Anonymous,
Regarding your post on 22 Nov, there were approx 24,000,000 Rusians killed in WWII. 8.8-10.7 million were soldiers; 12.2-14.2 million were civilians. Just thought you might want to know is all.
