"I promise 100% transparency in my administration "
"I promise NO NEW TAXES on a family making less than $250K a year.
"I will allow 5 days of public comment before I sign any bills."
"I will remove earmarks for PORK projects before I sign any bill."
"I will end Income Tax for seniors making less than $50K a year"
"I'll put the Health Care negotiations on CSPN so everyone can see who is at the table."

It's unfortunate that Obama hasn't fulfilled many of his campaign promises.

But how, exactly, does this make him any worse than any president before him?

Are we supposed to feel okay about the lack of transparency in the Bush² administration just because he didn't promise any?

What federal taxes have been levied on families making $250K or less??? I'm not getting that one. Unless I'm missing something, I'm getting taxed less at the Fed level. Perhaps these twerps are confusing Fed v. State v. Local taxes & fees, which wouldn't suprise me.

Plus I could be forgetting something, but I don't recall the no Income Tax for Seniors making less than $50k per year. If someone knows more than me (and if it's really factual), then let me know. I'm not sure if that one is true, and given that conservatives lie constantly, well....

As for the Health Care negotiations not all being televised: yes, that's true. They changed their minds about televising all of that, although parts have been televised (notice no credit given). Certainly more than under any other Admin, and BHO, plus other Dem leaders, including Pelosi have stepped up to the plate to explain why they've chosen not to televise everything. We can agree to disagree with their decisions, but they have publicized why they're not (and not ignoring people). So, yeah, they renigged somewhat. Well, they tried, at least.

Removing pork earmarks... again, not sure, but I mainly remember McSame promising this & going on & on about it until he LOST the election, went back to the Senate and immediately began demanding pork for AZ. So I'm not totally sure how strong of a campaign promise this was by BHO. My recollection is that BHO said he'd try to stop the worst of it. Frankly pork isn't as huge of an issue as it's made out to be, and there are stats that show, in general, that Republics have loaded bills with more pork than Dems. That said, the gang of 4 Republican-lite DINOs (Nelson, Landrieu, Lincoln & someone else whom I'm forgetting) did get too much unneccessary pork during the ridiculous Health Care bill process.

Frankly, the POTUS can only do so much to stop that kind of thing. It is a process in Congress, and the POTUS only has so much control over it.

So... I am frantically searching my mailbox for my REPUBLICAN BULLSHIT decoder ring, because really: haven't the RWF's been nearly 100% bullshit????

And again, per usual, I wouldn't be that concerned about stuff like this IF these rightwingers had voiced similar concerns while W was POTUS. But they didn't, did they? Hypocrite, much? Double standard, much? So tired of: IOKIYAR.

If you say taxes went up enough they do.

On the other side if you cut services without cutting taxes it is a tax increase.

Regarding Obama not keeping campaign promises: While it does certainly seem at times like he's determined to follow McCain's playbook instead, Politifact indicates that he has, at least, kept some.

Seriously:

* No to regulations= It keeps us from making money any way we want

* No to affirmative action= It means there's less stuff for us white folks

* No to environmental laws= Keeps us from harvesting our precious, precious natural resources

* Yes to war= Let's invade people and take their stuff!

* No to health care= It keeps medical and insurance companies from making whatever they want

* No to gun control= It keeps the arms dealers from making as much money as they want

Seriously. Conservatives are the only people on earth who'd rather have $20 than a blowjob.

The Bush regime (the term 'administration' isn't even
remotely apporpriate) was the least
transparent in modern history.

Remember these campaign promises?

"I'm a uniter, not a divider"

Mars, bitches!

Encouraged volunteerism, and then
guts AmeriCorps

Promised AIDS funding; gutted it instead

Promised no deficits; we end up
with the worst in history

Promised to pay down National Debt;
racked it up at the fastest pace
ever.

Promised to fund LIHEAP energy
assistance program; gutted it
instead.

Promised to increase funding for education; gutted it instead.

Promised to protect environment;
rolled back nearly all
protections instead.

...and you fools think that's all
just ducky.

The first is something that anyone who knows anything about how the government works and had any common sense would have realized that he couldn't deliver on. It's next to impossible to show absolutely everything, but they have been pretty good about it, and in fact they've been more transparent than any other administration to date. (Seriously, how many times did we hear the words "executive privillege" come from those guys, and Cheney was apparently the little known fourth branch of government and so didn't fall under any of the laws for the executive or legislative.)

The second and third have actually been made good on thus far.

The fourth is nearly impossible. He'd never get anything signed. Unless he has line item veto, he can't do this. It would be up to Congress. Again, it's about knowing how government works. And there seems to be a misunderstanding about what exactly pork is and that all of it is bad.

I don't remember the fifth one being made, but I'd imagine this is speaking to retirement income. Even so, this requires a bill passed through Congress-- not the executive branch. They have to deliver before he can sign.

The last is the same as the first. The bill has always been available to review and has been gone over by countless organizations and news sources, though I suppose if you don't show up at each individual American's house and go over every single detail, folks will say that it wasn't transparent (as opposed to "I'm too lazy to look it up myself and would rather have it spoon fed to me in sound bites").

I have a right wing bullshit decoder ring.

Where'd you get it? Let's take up a collection and send it to all rightwingers... (ha ha)

the strongest measure of an argument against Obama is a Bush comparison.
