FW: Electoral College

Very telling.  BTW:  Notice the NYC county that voted for Trump - Richmond.  That is Staten Island.

These numbers should SHUT UP liberals about the Electoral College once and for all

Our Founders in their infinite wisdom created the Electoral College to ensure the STATES were fairly represented. Why should one or two densely populated areas speak for the whole
of the nation?

The following list of statistics has been making the rounds on the Internet and it should finally put an end to the argument as to why the Electoral College makes sense.

Share this with as many whiners as you can:

There are 3,141 counties in the United States.

Trump won 3,084 of them.

Clinton won 57.

There are 62 counties in New York State.

Trump won 46 of them.

Clinton won 16.

Clinton won the popular vote by approx. 1.5 million votes.

In the 5 counties that encompass NYC, (Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Richmond & Queens) Clinton received well over 2 million more votes than Trump. (Clinton only won 4 of these counties;Trump won Richmond)

Therefore, these 5 counties alone, more than accounted for Clinton winning
the popular vote of the entire country.

These 5 counties comprise 319 square miles.

The United States is comprised of 3, 797,000 square miles.

When you have a country that encompasses almost 4 million square miles of territory, it would be ludicrous to even suggest that the vote of those who inhabit a mere 319 square miles should dictate the outcome of a national election.
Large, densely populated Democrat cities (NYC, Chicago, LA, etc) don’t and shouldn’t speak for the rest of our country.

Nice try, Breitbart, but false.

Yet one more effort by Team Trump to pit the so-called urban coastal elites against the putative real 'murkins in the alleged heartland.

Wake up, my friends. If you think some billionaire - no matter what party they affiliate with - is looking out for you, better think again. Any time some rich person tries to pit US citizens against each other, you should be suspicious of their motives, especially when your fed false information.

Let's just call these viral emails by a term people can relate to today (finally) - 'fake news'. It's not true, but if you'll believe it anyway the fake news people have suckered you.

False. They created the Electoral college because they feared direct democracy (which could be used to elect a demagogue like, say, Trump) and also because the allotment of electors gave a disproportionate selection power to slave states under the 3/5ths rule.

So the EC was, among other things, essentially a way to entice slave states to join the constitution because it gave them protections for their slavery.

If a few densely populated areas shouldn't determine the outcome of a Presidential election, then why should millions of acres of mostly empty farmland be allowed to do so?

BTW - Hillary Clinton won 487 counties. She also won the election by nearly 3 million votes.

In any universe, getting the most votes should be the measure of "winning."

Even if this lie was true fact, Clinton still won the popular vote, no matter how much Trump, Steve Bannon, KellyAnn CONway and other Trump propagandists bend themselves into pretzels trying to say that she didn't.

I agree with CharlieE. Why should the densely populated urban areas of the country - which frankly are densely populated because citizens from rural areas moved there - have their votes count less than all of the largely emptry sparsely populated rural areas?

Ahh, this again. The candidates and names may change but the meme never seems to: Which is "red" America beating it's chest while they trash talk "blue" America.

I was going to say in response to this muck-minded logic that land doesn't vote; people do. Alas, 'CharlieE' and 'Hooray4US' beat me to it with astute observations.

The same RW mooks love to show the same type of maps of the US with all the individual counties colored blue or red depending on how they voted. To the ignorant mouth breathers, it would appear the US is an overwhelmingly "red" country, as that color dominates the map of the lower 48 as a whole, with the pockets of blue being the population centers/megopolises. Guess what RW-ers; land area doesn't dictate representation as a political metric.

One consolation to the RW-ers however, is that "red states" get back more in federal money than they add to the kitty. This makes them relative takers while the blue states are relative givers.

Large, sparsely populated wingnut rustbelts and dustbowls don’t and shouldn’t speak for the rest of our country. Because, seriously, fuck you guys.

Lick your wounds Democrats.

Clean S-W-E-E-P, mother fuckers. Oh yea.

Better luck in 2 years during the midterm elections.

Until then, try to keep your whining to a minimum....but by all means, do continue to vent from time to time so we know that you're still out there and alive and kicking.

I honestly have quite a few Republican friends who have buyers remorse especially after Trump's presser the other day. Several conservative women I know plan to attend the Women's March on Jan 21.

I guess some conservatives think they shafted liberals big time because it's all just such a yuuuuge game. Some are not so exultant now that they've figured out that Obamacare is ACA, and Trump is repealing it.

Chumps. Thanks for taking us down with you.

Mike Hawk and his ilk seem to be so proud of the fact that Republicans are now prepared to dismantle the American Dream.

You just have to wonder why they so want a government that hurts people.

You win, Mike. We all now look forward to more pollution, lower wages, and a lowering of our overall life expectancy.

Thanks!

Some conservatives are totally propagandized to believe that the only goal is to screw over & beat liberals. Nothing else matters apparently except their rapidly diminishing quality of life.

Well you won. Enjoy the shit show to come. You earned it.

No CharlieE....I don't want a "government that hurts people", you damn fool....I want a government that gets the hell outta my way so I can conduct business more efficiently and more profitably.

Less government is the answer.

BTW - Gubmint ain't gonna change how long I live. We are ALL here (even you atheists and agnostic LIBERALS) on loan from our Creator. When he wants us back he'll take care of things.

The current Republican theory is that all square miles of US land area should be represented equally.

Those in Manhattan equally with those in Montana.

Government is by the people and for the people. Why do you think conservatives hate it so much?
They want corporations to rule, and, thanks to brain-dead people like Mike, they're winning.

This really isn't that hard to figure out. The ROI is enormous.
