The Case of the Dark Dilemma

"Now let me see if I have this right. The family situation is so unstable, 'Junior' doesn't even know where to send a Father's Day card.
There's no guidance or discipline in the home.
Junior gets dumped into the education system where he is socially promoted because the overwhelmed school district can't deal with the undisciplined whelp.
Junior's major formative influences are 'gangsta' rap videos and a corresponding peer group of gangsta wannabes.

At age 18, Junior is turned loose on society carrying a bad attitude, a broken compass and little respect for authority.
Junior gets himself in big trouble with the law and meets dire consequences.
Then, the situational diagnosis is that the police need more training and understanding?

Pardon me for asking, but do you really believe that bullshit?"

The Case of the Dark Dilemma?

Are you fucking kidding me?

Ya, Tamir Rice was an 18 year old thug who got in "big trouble" with the law. The police acted totally responsibly in that situation, no possible way some additional training could have changed things.

Same with Eric Garner, another 18 year old, probably under the influence of hippity hop music, who picked a fight with a group of police and tried to frame one of them by putting his neck next to a cops arm to fake an illegal chokehold.

Strange. Bill de Blasio gave his black son some common sense guidance about how he should be careful and respectful around cops because of the color of his skin, and the cops howled because this hurt their precious feelings.

Am I to understand that Republicans are now prepared to adequately fund our schools?

Charlie E: we can't afford more money for schools; it is all going to pay for war and prisons, which are the Republicans two favorite budget items.

Just come on out and say the n-word guys. You know you're dying to.

What a naïve and IDIOTIC statement. Blaming the failure of our public schools solely on underfunding by GOP pols.

H-E-L-L-O, Earth to Charlie: You can throw all the money in the world towards our public school system and that still wouldn't solve the HUGE problem we have in our country when it comes to public education.

BTW - I do agree that our police officers need more training and more EDUCATION. Most police officers I have known are no better educated than the African-American thugs out there = A high school diploma in hand and NO college education.

However, when I lived in Plano, TX, all of the local cops were required to have a 4-year bachelors degree, minimum. Let me tell you....you could tell the difference!

Obama to seek to bust spending limits by $74 billion

Associated Press – published Thursday, January 29, 2015

WASHINGTON (AP) — The White House says President Barack Obama's budget will propose spending $74 billion more than current spending caps. That would be an increase of about 7 percent.

Obama plans to release his budget for the next fiscal year on Monday. The White House says Obama will propose $530 million for domestic programs, which is $37 billion more than the limits established by so-called sequestration.

Obama will also propose $561 billion for defense spending. That's an increase of $38 billion over the spending limits.

Obama wants to do away with the across-the-board cuts that Democrats and Republicans agreed to in 2011 in an attempt to reduce the federal deficit.

So once again, deficits don't matter...

As Ronald Reagan taught us, according to Dick Cheney.

Seems to me that Obummer likes to spend a LOT on the military/"war", no???!

And yet no matter how much he spends he'll be accused of shortchanging the military by right wing idiots.

GOOD!!! I'm sick of this sequestration austerity bullshit.

Maybe not, but it sure would help. We've had generations of chipping away at public investment in schools and other infrastructure, usually led by conservative hucksters.

It's a sweet scam they've cooked up: defund programs, and then turn around and bitch when the programs can't function as well as before, which clearly means they need more "reforms", typically in the form of spending cuts or redirection of funds to their friends in the private sector.

Rinse and repeat.

I'll see your raise and re-raise.

The insidious undermining of the public school system was done as part of the ferocious reaction to civil rights and desegragational busing.

'We can't have infrastructure beneficial to whites if it's also beneficial to blacks.'

And many extremely hard-headed whites buy in to that philosophy to this very day.

That the privitization of schools makes it affluent whites-only again is a feature, not a bug.

So gruaud....how about Asian kids?

Your logic is pure bullshit.

how about Asian kids?

What about them? Their schools have been defunded as well.

Your logic is pure bullshit.

Nope, its a fact. After the courts ruled that busing had to be permitted suddenly a lot of white folks discovered that they wanted to send their kids to private schools, which just miraculously sprung up.

The movie "The Blind Side" is a great example of this. It's tells the story of a black kid who gets out of the inner city and makes it because he gets taken in by a white family and gets to go to a prestigious private school.

Of course, what they don't show you is the prologue to the story, where the school in question (and many others like it) were founded in the 70's in direct response to busing and desegregation. Instead of having to send their kids to school with black kids, whites fled to the suburbs and set up their own schools which wouldn't have to admit the "wrong" sort of students. So Michael Oher's big accomplishment was getting admitted to the club originally set up precisely to keep people like him out. It didn't hurt that he happened to be really good at football...

But what about Indian kids too Mike? You left them out you racist bastard. ;-)

But I jest...or not.

But you're right about Plano police and their requirements. That degree makes them better at designing speed traps which they are very good at.

What is the HUGE problem with public schools?

That budget cuts at the hand of the right have forced teachers to use their own money to support their classrooms? I have friends that are teachers so that's a fact.

Couple that with the RW attack on teachers unions which means not only do the teachers have to use their pocket money to support classrooms but they do so on less pay.

Then we can talk about how those budget cuts have reduced the number of teachers so the student/teacher ration is unsupportable.

THEN they have the cajones to bitch about how those same kids turn out, getting out of HS barely being literate and blaming it on liberal policies. Not that Dems are by any means blameless however the RW hypocrisy it mind numbing. I remember Gov Ann Richards (Dem) selling the TX lottery as a way to provide supplemental funds for schools only to turn around an implement the Robin Hood plan a year to two later? Yeah..that was a good one.

But as far as saying the RW shit doesn't stink...eat a bag.

Why did they put a pic of Robert De Niro with this RWF?

De Niro is a devted long time supporter of the Democratic Party.

Schitzengiggles: Unions are good for bad/pathetic teachers, and bad for good students.

Unless you enamored by the fact that many tenured unionized teachers that are absolutely horrendous teachers remain in your child's classrooms....with no fear of being fired and doing less than hald-ass jobs at their professions.

Additiinally, where I went to h.s....all teachers were REQUIRED to have a Master's in Education at the minimum. In today's public schools, many teachers are simply certified to teach and have only AA degrees or BA degrees in some bullshit non-teaching field. The majority of these teachers are "fall-back" career teachers who didn't make it in the private sector in their chosen educational fields of study...so they go back to school for teaching certifications and are placed in the classroom randomly (and many of these teachers use horrible grammar and speak Ebonics).

End of that argument.

Painting all with a single brush..nice tactic. Sure there are some but I would guess the majority are not. Kinda like in-person voter fraud....mountains and molehills.

When you cut budgets and are only willing to pay a McJob wage, you get McJob people buckwheat.

I have to second, if you think that's De Niro, you're two tacos shy of a combo plate there little buckaroo.

End of that argument.

Not hardly. Just more RW talking points. What was it someone said in that other topic....All fluff no substance was it?
