THE 'Y' CHROMOSOME

People born before 1946 are called -The Greatest Generation.

People born between 1946 and 1964 are called The Baby Boomers
.

People born between 1965 and 1979 are called Generation X.

And people born between 1980 and 2010 are called -Generation Y.

Why do we call the last group -Generation Y ?

Y should I get a job?

Y should I leave home and find my own place?

Y
 should I clean my room?

Y should I wash and iron my own clothes?

Y should I buy any food?

But perhaps a cartoonist explained it most eloquently below...
Just thought you might want to know "Y"

Y? Um, maybe because the previous generations completely hosed the economy right as generation Y was due to enter the workforce?

Maybe because hiring managers, mostly members of the aforementioned previous generations, pretty much require college degrees for any job, making a generation of perpetual students or unemployable high school grads?

It's a blame spiral to which there is no escape.

1. "If you don't want to work at McDonalds, you'd better get off your butt and get a college degree!"
2. "You're not entitled to a job just because you have a degree. Get off your butt and work at McDonalds!"
3. "Raise the minimum wage? Get off your but and get a better job?"
4. Go To 1

Everything that is wrong in your life is your fault. Everything that is wrong in their lives is your fault.

Sounds like the rantings of a cranky old man who just wants those damned kids off of his lawn.

Y? Because that's how the baby boomers decided to raise their kids. That's Y.

Y is everything so wrong with Gen Y? Because the Greatest Gen, the Silents (Korean War era) & some parts of the Boomers permitted USA to go to hell in a handbasket, that's Y, ya cranky know-nothing.

Eternal victimization, thy name be Tea Party. Notice now that Tea Partiers - many of whom raised Gen Y'ers - are now victimizing themselves to their kids and grandkids. Why how special.

"The Greatest Generation" were of age during WW2, born 1900-1924. Those whining about the younger generation today are most likely from the Silent Generation, like my RWD, a label which is rather ironic because they are SO LOUD today.

Y are the Silents such big whining babies? That's what I'd like to know.

Here are some more Y's for you:

Y are there no jobs?

Y can't I raise a family on a single (or even double) income?

Y has the minimum wage for certain professions stayed the same since before some of us were BORN (1991, to be exact)?

Y can I expect to be more productive in terms of output than any generation before me, and yet earn less in real wages at the same time?

Y must I pay Social Security taxes to support a system that will be bankrupt before I ever get a chance to collect?

Y must I be required to have a college degree to do a job while at the same time be unable to afford one?

Y are we entering a era of unsurpassed economic prosperity for the stock market and top 1% while our bills get larger and heavier?

and, most importantly,

Y has MY future been mortgaged and sold to overseas investors, frittered away in tax breaks for the super-wealthy, my livelihood taken away from me, my environment polluted and despoiled, my job shipped overseas and my general well-being been pawned so pops and grandpa could buy another timeshare in Cancun?

Want the answer? Here's a hint.

GENERATION U.

PS: we don't wear our pants low because it's the fashion, we're doing it because we're mooning you.

We early GenY-ers are getting up into our mid-30s now, depending on where you pin the generation shift. I guess we'll have to come up with a catchier name for today's actual kids before I start getting crotchety enough to start complaining 'bout KIDS! What's the matter with kids these daaaaays?

Y? Because people always find it convenient initially to label the upcoming generation by tweaking the previous generation's name, rather than actually looking to know what they are like (or recognizing that since any new generation is by definition kids and new adults, they're going to act their age for a while before developing an identity). Hell, we Gen-Xers had the downer name "Baby Busters" for way too long thanks to this tendency. We were also "Slackers" because of a movie made about college-age kids ... who, big surprise, tend to be a little immature for the simple reason that they have not matured yet.
