Awesome Lady

Subject: Bless the Lady Plumber
Remember this lady?
Irena Sendler

Died: May 12, 2008 (aged 98) Warsaw, Poland

During WWII, Irena, got permission to work in the Warsaw ghetto, as a Plumbing/Sewer specialist.
She had an ulterior motive.

Irena smuggled Jewish infants out in the bottom of the tool box she carried.
She also carried a burlap sack in the back of her truck for larger kids.

Irena kept a dog in the back of her truck that she had trained to bark when the Nazi soldiers let her in and out of the ghetto.

The soldiers, of course, wanted nothing to do with the dog and the barking which covered the kids/infants noises.

During her time of doing this, she managed to
smuggle out and save 2500 kids/infants.

Ultimately, she was caught, however, and the Nazi's broke both of her legs and arms and beat her severely.

Irena kept a record of the names of all the kids she had smuggled out in a glass jar that she buried under a tree in her back yard.  After the war, she tried to locate any parents that may have survived and tried to reunite the family. Most had been gassed. Those kids she helped got placed into foster family homes or adopted.
In 2007 Irena was up for the Nobel Peace Prize.
She was not selected.

Al Gore won, for a slide show on Global Warming.
Later, another politician, Barack Obama, won for his work as a community organizer for ACORN.

In  MEMORIAM - 65 YEARS LATER:
I'm doing my small part by  forwarding this message.
I hope you'll consider doing the same. It is now more than 67 years since the Second World War in Europe ended. This e-mail is being sent as a memorial chain in memory of the six million Jews, 20 million Russians, 10 million Christians and 1,900 Catholic priests who were  murdered, massacred, raped, burned, starved and humiliated!

Now, more than ever, with Iran, and others, claiming the HOLOCAUST to be 'a myth', it's imperative to make sure the world never forgets, because there are others who would like to do it again.
This e-mail is intended to reach 40 million people worldwide!
Join us and be a link in the memorial chain and help us distribute it around the world. Please send this e-mail to people you know and ask them to continue the memorial chain.

Please don't just delete it. It will only take you a minute to pass this along.

Yes, her life was admirable, and yes, she saved some lives.

Al Gore's contribution, one hopes, was to save the entire planet.

I'd say his contribution trumps hers by at least an order of magnitude.

Dismiss it at your peril, wingers.

President Obama won the NPP for his work as a community organizer with ACORN? Really? Quite a HUUUUUGE stretch there.

He wasn't a community organizer with ACORN. He did, kinda, work for ACORN once:

"Obama and two other attorneys represented ACORN in a 1995 federal civil lawsuit against the state of Illinois — Gov. James Edgar and other state officials were the named defendants — to demand that it enforce a new federal law known as "motor voter," which allowed people to register to vote when they got their drivers' licenses. There were five other named plaintiffs in the case, but ACORN was the lead plaintiff. Among the groups that sided with ACORN in the matter: the U.S. Department of Justice and the League of Women Voters. The courts concluded that Illinois had to enforce the law, and the case generated several federal court orders through 1995 and 1996."

The saddest thing about this is that the originator of this forward doesn't even care what Sendler did. They weaponized her memory to score cheap political points.

That is some low-level stooping, that is.

Sentimental clap trap about a woman who truly is a hero. Using Irena Sendler to score cheap political points.

Typical rightwing forward sent to mushy-brained idiots who never had any critical thinking skills to begin with.

Pathetic & frankly creepy mis-use of this woman's memory & her good deeds for disingenuous & stupid purpose.

Just goes to show how unethical and amoral these rightwing think tanks are - not to mention exhibiting the basest of poor taste. They'll whore out the memory of anyone in order to score cheap political points.

"Irena Sendler was reportedly a candidate to receive the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize, but that honor was not awarded to her. (It's difficult to state categorically that she was "nominated" for the award, since information about Nobel Prize "nominations, investigations, and opinions is kept secret for fifty years.")"

A lot of people are nominated for the NPP and don't get it. It's highly political. Just as many conservatives get the NPP, as so-called liberals (cough cough), like Al Gore & Barack Obama.

Speaking for myself, I find the NPP given to Henry Kissinger in 1973 to be rather nauseating.

Al Gore won the NPP in 2007 jointly with the Intergovernment Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). It's disingenous at best to state that Al Gore created a slide show. One may certainly disagree with Al Gore's perspective on climate change, but he's done a whole lot more than create a slide show.

Typical rightwing bleating hogwash. I note that, for some reason, there's a bunch of whining in rightwing sources at the moment about Al Gore getting the NPP in 2007. I don't have time to read through these spurious "articles" to figure out why this apparently concerted effort to diss Gore is happening right at this time.

The Irena Sendler mythos originated in 2008, and I think we may have seen a version of it already (seems to ring a bell). Either that, or something similar and equally stupid & spurious.

Dear Anonymous (above) - You DO understand that the Nobel Prize Committees are composed of Swedes and Norwegians? That Alfred Nobel, who created the various prizes, was Swedish? That the awarding of any of the Prizes, including the NPP, is not a decision made by anyone in the United States, whether liberal, conservative or otherwise?

If not, you might just want to, oh I don't know, do some research on how this works. Not that I expect you to do so, since learning how this works would certainly prove that your whining and crying about Obama getting the NPP is a pretty pointless exercise on this blog.

Maybe you can bitch to the Nobel Committee about your vast great insights? I'm sure they're just dying to know how YOU feel! And undoubtedly will take your impressive and clearly knowledgeable opinions under consideration when choosing future NPP winners.

FWIW, Obama didn't win the Nobel Peace Prize for being a community organizer with ACORN.

"...for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples"
http://www.nobelprize.org/nobel_prizes/peace/laureates/

The Chinese government was ticked off when the Dalai Lama won the Peace Prize in 1989, and the Myanmar Government was pissed off when Aung Sn Suu Kyi won it in 1991.

Anyone is entitled to disagree with the Nobel Committee's decision, but at least make an effort to know what you're talking about.
