Fw: King David

Subject: King David

(forwarded)
Well - I feel a bit like King David when he was told his son had died...remember that story?
His son was very sick and David trusted God to intervene - he put on sackcloth and ashes, refused to eat or drink and prayed fervently for his sons return to health. Of course, his son died - and everyone was afraid to tell David - afraid it would drive him insane. But David heard the whispering - asked if his son had died - and when it was confirmed, he asked for food and drink and cleaned himself up.
They were amazed at the transformation and asked him what had brought about his change of attitude - he told them that while his son still lived, there was the chance God would heal him, but when he died, it was God's will - and there was nothing more to do but praise God for his mercy.
So, I woke up this morning to a country run by a man I have very little faith in - but I live in a great country - still - and so I'll put away the sackcloth and ashes, renew my efforts to protect the things in this life I hold dear...and work towards a 2014 reclamation of the Senate!! Then, on to 2016... all the while praising God that I was privileged enough to have been born an American.

I'm afraid this person, while commendably pragmatic compared to many Republicans these days, has missed a few points:

1. David's son died as punishment for David's sins.
2. David repented and was forgiven by God when Nathan told him of the punishments to come.

Thanks, Anon, for bringing up those rather pertinent points! Saved me the time & effort.

Typical of how conservatives bend the Bible to meet whatever need they happen to have at the moment. Happens a lot in my experience.

Agree that this RWF is a tad more "pragmatic" but continues in the Grand Old Tradition of great victimization of these vaunted - but wrong-headed - Christiany "soldiers."

The sender was doing great until he suggested that having the Republicans take back the Senate would make anything better.

The GOP can win the House due to all their Gerrymandering and voter suppression, but
the Senate, the Governor majority, and especially the presidency are lost to them for at least 10 years.

And if they can't break the grip of their extremist elements and clean house in their Frankenstein noise-machine, it will be longer.

Pass the popcorn.

Perhaps he did not forget that David was being pnished. One might view another 4 years of Obama as "punishment", depending on how you feel about the first 4 years!
That said how did he "bend the bible"? I saw his analogy perfectly. The election did not go as he hoped. But, he was thankful for the great country that he was born into nonetheless...and he moved on. The bible speaks to us each day in a new way and the same words have different meaning to us on different days, depending on where we are. How is that constued as "bending the bible"? I do know that people do that, but I just don't see it here...

That's pretty much the exact definition of "bending the bible". Highlighting the certain passage or interpretation of said passage which supports your position de jour and ignoring the rest.

We call that cherry-picking. It's facile and hypocritical.

It's not real Christianity, it's the usual fake holier-than-thou bullshit. I was raised Christian, and I see right through you.

Hey, it's December. Tell me about how you can't celebrate Christmas because...LIBERALS.

Can you wake up? Can you see how selfish and destructive your ideology is? Probably not, but one can hope.

Really?? I make one comment and you can see right through me because you were raised Christian?
Wow....

I can celebrate Christmas regardless of my circumstances because I am celebrating the real and only king's birth and death. I celebrate the only one who has power and control. I celebrate the only one who has the power to change the hearts of men.

I so wish there were a forum where people could speak with mutual respect, as if they were face to face with someone. I wish there were a forum where people could respectfilly disagree without getting ugly and often times using really ugly curses casually thrown out there into the blogosphere.

Ah, I just noticed this while screening for conservative sneak-commenters. I so love to find them.

Yeah, mare, it's not hard to spot fake-Christians. They reek of hypocrisy. Real Christians are pretty cool. They are kind and generous and don't begrudge anyone else their beliefs. Fake Christians are the exact opposite.

Choose wisely.

As for your fervent hope for a forum with mutual respect, I'm afraid you've picked a bit of a minefield. This forum examines the worst of the worst of rightwing propaganda, so you are walking into a hornet's nest by posting here. And you obviously didn't visit my "Language: A Means of Control" link, or you'd be treading more softly.

It's ugly and so I call it out in wrathful turn. 15 years ago I was as gentle as a lamb, but finally realized that that never works with hateful extremists. So, again, your side gets a 2 by 4 between the eye from most of us. Sorry, neophyte -- that's how it's going to be until your side can reform and re-learn the art of compromise.

When you call out your own, you will get respect. You haven't noticed how extreme and hateful your side is? Re-read these forwards and examine your movement.

Until then, wring your hands and wonder why.
