Subject: FW: FOX NEWS- President and Congress just put the nail in the coffin for free speech.

Per Jeanne Molloff’s blog:

“…..H.R. 347 (and it's companion senate bill S. 1794); aka the "Federal Restricted Buildings and Grounds Improvement Act of 2011." Sounding more like an appropriations bill authorizing monies for federal grounds landscaping -- this bill, better known to those in the DC beltway as the 'Trespass Bill' -- potentially makes peaceable protest anywhere in the U.S. a federal felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison.”

“….The House vote tally which took place 02/28/12, was 338 for and 3 against. The three dissenters were Rep. Paul Broun R-Georgia, Rep. Justin Amash R-Michigan and Rep. Keith Ellison D-Minnesota. …..” Rep. Ron Paul ABSTAINED on the final vote.”

Per Sen. Corker’s office, it passed the senate by unanimous consent, i.e., no actual individual vote was taken since it appeared the bill would pass anyway.  Isn’t it great that we are paying these people to represent us.

Note this was passed by both parties.

PLEASE take 2 minutes and listen if you care about the future of free speech for your kids and grandkids. Then pass along to all your liberal friends and ask them if they like the change they are getting. The U.S.A. is now more likeChina. VERY SCARY STUFF.

Nobody panic, I'm sure there's an exception clause for corporations. We wouldn't want to infringe upon their sacred free speech rights.

H.R. 347: Federal Restricted Buildings and Grounds Improvement Act of 2011

After reading the bill summary and knowing it was supported by both democrats and republicans why am I not surprised that only right wing Fox News comes up with their Chicken Little "The Sky is Falling" view of this law?

Official Bill Summary
The following summary was written by the Congressional Research Service, a nonpartisan arm of the Library of Congress, which serves Congress.

3/8/2012--Public Law. (This measure has not been amended since it was reported to the Senate on November 17, 2011. The summary of that version is repeated here.) Federal Restricted Buildings and Grounds Improvement Act of 2011 [sic] - Amends the federal criminal code to revise the prohibition against entering restricted federal buildings or grounds to impose criminal penalties on anyone who knowingly enters any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority. Defines "restricted buildings or grounds" as a posted, cordoned off, or otherwise restricted area of: (1) the White House or its grounds or the Vice President's official residence or its grounds, (2) a building or grounds where the President or other person protected by the Secret Service is or will be temporarily visiting, or (3) a building or grounds so restricted due to a special event of national significance.
==============================================================
This brings to mind the White House party crash by Tareq and Michaele Salahi
remember the critics of the Secret Service?

Now when someone makes an effort to address the problem that was widely criticized by the right wing that effort isn't worth a dam.
Typical right wing BS damn if you do and damn if you don't. If your truly worried for your family's future my advice would be stay away from any cordoned off, or otherwise restricted area.

It's probably not the Chicken Little scenario mentioned in this article, but I'm hesitant to dismiss the criticism entirely.

Here's a Slate article on the changes. It sounds like a wording change that didn't need to be made, perhaps for the sake of Congress being able to say they at least passed something this term.

(Also, hilarious to see right-wingers praising Keith Ellison the terrist Muslim Congressman on this issue.)
