For those that know little of Rick Perry who is running for the office of President here is a little insight to the man.  His experience  was not being a community organizer.

Actually, today, A&M has grown to one of the top 10 largest undergraduate enrollments in the country. However, when I went there from ' 65 - ' 69, we only had 11,000 men, and a few (>50) female student wives, and daughters of professors, etc.). In the Fall of 1968 (my Senior Year), a punky, slow talking kid from central west Texas enrolled in Texas A&M and immediately was liked by all the Freshmen in his class! He was liked so much that he was nominated and elected President of the Freshman Class. Later on, in 1971 he was elected to one of the highest honors they can bestow on a student at A&M, that of Head Aggie Yell Leader (All Male schools don't do "Cheers" for Cheerleaders, they do "Yells" for the six elected Yell Leaders). When he graduated (which he did in the normally allotted four years, even with all his extra-circular Yell Leader travels to all Football, Basketball, Baseball, Track and Field, and even Conference Golf Tournaments), he earned a Commission in the United States Air Force and started Flight Training shortly after Graduation. Upon Honor Graduation from Flight Training, he was assigned to C-130 Hercules Transports and sent straight to Viet Nam, where he flew Co-Pilot to one of my best friends at A&M. He said the kid was the most dependable and down to earth pilot with whom he'd flown, and recommended him for Captain of his own C-130. That handsome, very likable, down-to-earth kid was Rick Perry, and I've known him since he was an 18 year old Aggie Freshman. He was known to me that entire year as "Fish Perry"!!
Is he perfect? Hell no, who is? In 11 years as Governor, he has made three MAJOR "Bone-headed" decisions, but when yours truly and many other Texas Republicans called his hand on them, he didn't pull an 'Obama' and proceed to try and ram it down our throats, anyway.........I He re-thought his position and reversed course! That's wisdom!
Is he smart, and does he have good common sense? The Air Force doesn't put idiots in charge of $20 Million Aircraft and 8 crew members! He has an exemplary Military record! And, he can charm the horns off a Buffalo!
And, he has never lost an election, so he must be a pretty damn good politician, as well! It remains to be seen how he handles the national media "Gotcha Question Goons", but I think he'll do pretty well!
By the way, my Classmate who used to fly with Rick in that first C-130 went on to become a Captain for United Airlines and he continued to live in Abilene, TX. He contracted Cancer and died in 2002, and at his Funeral Graveside Service, now Governor Rick Perry arranged for a four aircraft flight of C-130s in tight formation to do a fly-by over the Cemetery, at an altitude of 300 feet, just as Taps were ending and the 21 gun salute was starting. Just as those thundering four engine turbo-props got overhead, the lead aircraft pulled up abruptly into the missing man maneuver. Son, there wasn't a dry eye at the Cemetary! The man has got a heart of gold!
That's who Rick Perry is, and I'm proud to recommend him to you! Beryl
Subject: Who Is Rick Perry?
Who Is Rick Perry?
Don't come after my dog, he warned them.
He is a fifth generation Texan, the son of hardscrabble west Texas tenant farmers; Democrats but conservatives through and through. He grew up in a farm town too small to be on the state map. Life was so hard that he was six years old before his house had indoor plumbing. His mother sewed his clothes, including the underwear he wore to college.

He is an Eagle Scout. After Paint Creek High School , he attended Texas A&M, graduated, and was commissioned into the Air Force where he became a C-130 pilot.

Now 61 years old, he has won nine elections to four different offices in Texas state government. In the first three elections he ran as a Democrat then switched to the Republican Party. He is currently the 47th governor of Texas , a position he has held for 11 years, the longest tenure of any governor in the nation. He has been elected governor three times, the first ever to have that honor.

He has never lost an election.

Rick Perry was the Lieutenant Governor to whom Governor George Bush handed over the office after winning the 2000 Presidential election. Since then, Perry won gubernatorial elections in 2002, 2004, and 2010, the last time by 55% against a field consisting of a Democrat, a Libertarian, a Green Party, and an Independent. He even beat out Kay Bailey Hutchison, long time popular Texas GOP Senator.

Since he became its Governor, Texas , a right-to-work state (no unions to speak of) that taxes neither personal income nor capital gains has added more jobs than the other 49 states combined. In the last two years, low taxes and little regulation led his state to create 47% of all jobs created in the entire nation. Five of the top ten cities with the highest job growth in the nation are in Texas . People follow jobs, so in the last four years for which data are available, Texas led every state in net interstate migration growth.

Perry signed ground-breaking tort reform and medical litigation rules that caused malpractice insurance rates to fall. Some 20,000 doctors have since moved to Texas .

Texas boasts 58 of the Fortune 500 companies, more than any other state. Since May 2011, Texas resumed its pre-recession employment levels. Only two other states and the District of Columbia have done that.

Texas ships 16% of the nation's export value. California trails at 11%. Of the 70 companies that have fled California so far in 2011, 14 relocated in Texas .

In this year's Texas legislative season, Perry got most of what he wanted. With no new taxes, a fiscally lean state budget was passed leaving $6 billion in a rainy day fund even as other states around the country struggled to balance budgets and avoid more deficit borrowing. A voter ID bill passed that was designed to prevent ballot box fraud and illegal voting. A bill passed that makes plaintiffs pay court costs and attorney fees if their suits are deemed frivolous.

Perry scored points even in his legislative failures. He failed to get sanctuary cities banned -- Texas towns in which police cannot question detainees about their immigration status. The blame fell on the legislature. Perry also failed to get a so-called anti-groping bill passed that would put Transportation Security Administration agents in prison if they touch the genitals, anus, or breasts of passengers in a pat down. Federal officials threatened to halt all flights out of Texas airports and the bill died in special session. That endeared Texans even more to TSA employees living in Texas .

Perry jogs daily in the morning. He has no bodyguard with him, but his daughter's dog runs by his side and he carries a laser-guided automatic pistol in his belt. Last year while jogging in an undeveloped area, a coyote paralleled his jogging route, eyeing his dog. He drew his pistol and killed the animal with one shot, leaving it where it fell. "He became mulch," Perry said. Animal rights groups protested, but Perry shrugged it off. "Don't come after my dog," Perry warned".

Recently, Obama asked Perry to delay the July 7 execution of Humberto Leal in order to comply with the International Court of Justice in The Hague and the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations. Perry refused. Therefore Obama asked the US Supreme Court to delay the execution because it would damage US foreign relations. The Court refused 5-4 and Perry ordered the execution to go forward as scheduled. Over the howls of diplomats, politicians, and the UN, Leal was administered a lethal injection at 6:20 p.m. Before he died, he admitted his guilt and asked for forgiveness.

The case has special implications for Perry, who is considering a run for the presidency in 2012. Even his critics resent federal interference in a Texas execution, which is related to a state, not a federal, crime; an alcohol and drug-fueled rape and murder 17 years ago by an illegal whose family brought him into the country 35 years ago as a child. The interference hinges not on the man's guilt, which Leal advocates acknowledged, but on a technicality: failure to inform Leal that he could have gotten legal representation from the Mexican consulate in lieu of the court-appointed attorneys who represented him. Independent Texans saw Obama's interference as another intrusion of federal power into the affairs of a state, which could cost Obama support in other states.

Needless to say, Perry is a hard-edged conservative and a ferocious defender of 10th Amendments rights (The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.) an explicit restriction of the federal government to only those powers granted in the Constitution. Perry accuses the federal government, especially the Obama administration, of illegal overreach.

Perry said no thanks to the feds whose stimulus offered taxpayer dollars for education and unemployment assistance. The strings on free money from Washington , he said, would restrict Texas in managing its own affairs. Perry even depleted all state funds to fight recent wildfires before asking Washington for disaster relief. His request has been ignored, which comes across as an unvarnished federal power play, further pitting Perry and Texans against the federal government.

I love this:

"Perry even depleted all state funds to fight recent wildfires before asking Washington for disaster relief. His request has been ignored, which comes across as an unvarnished federal power play, further pitting Perry and Texans against the federal government."

Not quite right wing retards.

Perry SLASHED his 2011 volunteer fire department budgets (who do 80% of firefighting in Texas) by 75%...as a 'budget cutting' measure.

This cut didn't allow them to prepare or purchase necessary equipment to fight the wildfires.

Then Perry has a hissy fit because the feds won't let him use their equipment.

Sort of like turning off your fire alarms, cutting off your homes water supply, throwing away all of your garden hoses, then lighting a small corner of it on fire.

Then being extremely pissed off that your neighbor won't get up at 3:00am to 'give' you his hose and water.

Perry is an idiot.

So... he's a cowardly flip flopper who will fold and give up on his policies if he thinks they'll make him unpopular, regardless of their merits.

I thought we wanted bold, hard charging presidents like W who don't give a damn what polls or whiners say, they'll just move ahead full steam to do what they know is "right"?

The Air Force doesn't put idiots in charge of $20 Million Aircraft and 8 crew members!

No comment. Except to wonder why his military service is lauded while the actual heroic combat of a person like Kerry was insulted and denigrated. Oh wait... Republican, Democrat Got it.

And of course we all know that Texas is as bankrupt as any other state, saved only from even more massive budget cuts by Obama's stimulus money. The same money Perry threatened to veto and then happily accepted and took credit for.

They should just print this on a flyer and mail it out like other election materials since it leaves off all of the ugliness of Perry's reign in Texas: including executing at least one innocent man named Cameron Todd Willingham. Willingham was a victim of very poor fire investigators. Perry took federal stimulus money meant for schools then slashed state funds to schoos to balance his budget, then when the Congress passed additional stimulus with restrictions on Texas to prevent more theft from the schools, Perry cried they were singling out Texas!
He recklessly slashed the firefighting and school budgets while maintaining a 7 billion dollar rainy day fund, and demanding federal assistance with wildfires. (If wildfires don't merit rainy day funds what does?)He has more in common with W than his smirk, swagger and poor Enlighs skills and I really do hope Americans have had enough of cowboy presidents for a while.

Perry was squealing almightly about how Texas MUST SECEDE from the USA when that N*****head got into the Whitehouse.

NOW Perry wants to run for Pres of the USA? Cognitive dissonance, much??

However, typical rightwing thinktank bunk sent up to rile up the rubes. Matters little, as Perry's day is done, and he's being shipped back TX and told to STFU.

Looks like the conservatives will have to make do with Magic Undies Mittens, as the Grifter Quitter has also been told to STFU and QUIT before even entering the raced. Suck it up suckahs!!!

To Thx4Fish: thanks for the recognition of the wrongful death of Willingham, who, I might add, Perry had gotten LOADS of evidence to show that Willingham was NOT guility... and Perry glibly said: flip the switch.

Perry's a typical rightwing hypocritcal, racist, incompetent liar with double standards. Whot a sorprise... NOT!

Sure, let's elect Perry so he can finish the havoc wrought by the Bush/Cheney train wreck.

Because, hey, that worked out just marvelous.

Lack of a capital gains tax is supposed to be a good thing?

Tort reform making it almost impossible to sue negligent doctors -- without lowering medical costs for patients -- is a good thing?

Denying a man his rightful legal defense is a good thing?

I have such a hard on!! Rick Perry is so AWESOME!!!

This is, as typical of so many Reich-wing hit pieces, unsigned; so who wrote it? Perry himself?

And "Rick Perry who is running for the office of President..." so exactly how old is this bullshit?
