Fwd: Fw: GE moving to Beijing contributed by James Hutchinson

Subject: Fwd: Fw: GE moving to Beijing contributed by James Hutchinson
General Electric is planning to move its  115-year-old X-ray division from Waukesha, Wis., to Beijing. In addition  to moving the headquarters, the company will invest $2 billion in China  and train more than 65 engineers and create six research centers. This is  the same GE that made $5.1 billion in the United States last year. but  paid no taxes-the same company that employs more people overseas than it  does in the united States. (134,000 vs.  154,000)

So  let me get this straight. President Obama appointed GE Chairman Jeff  Immelt to head his commission on job creation (job czar). Immelt is  supposed to help create jobs. I guess the President forgot to tell him in  which country he was supposed to be creating those jobs.

If  this doesn't show you the total lack of leadership of this President, I  don't know what does.

I actually agree with this, so I wonder how right wing it really is. I guess because of the jab at Obama. But Immelt certainly deserves some scorn, as well.

If you have free markets, corporations will give jobs to the cheapest labor out there. In our case, that always means overseas. I keep harping about free markets vs fair markets -- and by fair, I mean fair for labor, middle management, and the lower and middle classes. We've been getting shafted by Republican policies since the 80's. I contend that corporations can still turn a profit while paying a decent wage to US workers AND dealing with labor unions. Obviously, that profit isn't large enough to the CEO's and their respective boards.

So now the President is supposed to prevent companies from seeking out maximum profits? Pretty sure that's government control of the economy aka socialism, the exact thing you assholes have been whining about for 3 years. So now he's getting yelled at for NOT being a socialist. Nice.

To Anon: exactly.

Typical gratuitous jab at Obama for no reason other than to pit credulous TeaPublicans against the so-called "enemy," and being that Obama's a black fella: WIN, a twofer.

Most here know that I'm not fan of Obama, and I loathed his appointment of rightwing corporatist hack Immelt as head of the so-called "Jobs Commission" which must be Orwell-speak for: fahgedaboud any jobs in the USA, you lousy serfs; they all be a-going to the third world, so get used to it.

Anyway I thought all the Ayn Rand panty-sniffers thought that sending jobs overseas was teh bestest in the world bc it meant Team USA had to be all Galtian self-sufficient-y, and that's the way it goes, ya lazy slacker cadillac welfare queens.

Why the sobbing now? Obama just continued the policies and practices of GW Bush. Shoulda made all those conservatives cream in their jeans with divinely inspired "happiness."

So GE is the only major corp shipping jobs overseas? No. But GE is the only major corp that has been supporting Obama and shipping jobs overseas.

With the Tea Party nihilists intent on destroying the world's economy unless they get 100% of their demands, I expect we'll see more corps cozying up to Dems, and Dems supporting more globalization. But not to worry, the jobs will return to this country when wages are $2/hour and the EPA is shut down. The real draw for corps to manufacture overseas are the loose pollution standards of the third world.

Campaign finance reform now could save a lot of pain and suffering for our kids and grandkids.

Yes, if Obama were any kind of a leader at all, he'd have GE Chairman Jeff Immelt sent off to some hellhole where he could be tortured until he was dead.

Because that's how a real leader leads.

Note that the article says (if we believe GE) that there will be no job cuts here when they move their health care division headquarters to China.

I agree that we shouldn't be promoting this continued shift overseas, but perhaps right-wingers ought to have considered that when dropping isolationism in favor of free market profiteering.

It's a little-known fact that one of they key tenets of Marxist Socialism is encouraging companies to ship U.S. jobs overseas in order to make them more competitive.

Morans.

The email says that the X-Ray division is 115 years old, but the facility was built in 1972, not 1896. So at first glance the anonymous email is very suspicious and looks bogus.

The fact is that GE did not move its X-ray operation to China, but did move four executives from Wisconsin to China. The rest of the business stays in Wisconsin. Having a presence in growing markets is critical for GE as the company looks for ways to create jobs at home through exports. GE is a net exporter to China.

The email is also wrong about GE’s taxes. The truth is that GE paid $1 billion in federal, state and local taxes in the U.S. for 2010. GE's tax rate was low because it lost billions of dollars as a result of the global financial crisis. It is expected that GE's tax rate will be higher for 2011 as business recovers. The U.S. tax system is in desperate need of reform, which includes closing loopholes.

GE is one of the largest private employers and the second-largest exporter in the United States. During 2011, GE announced the creation of more than 8,000 new U.S. jobs, bringing total new jobs added since 2009 to more than 13,000. These jobs will fill the 16 new U.S. factories that GE is building or rebuilding in the U.S. GE currently has nearly 2,000 U.S. job openings posted on its http://gecareers.com site.

GE is the second largest exporter in the United States and China is a
growing market. Having a presence in growing markets is critical for GE and the United States as we look for ways to remain competitive and create jobs at home.

Since 2009, GE has committed to investing hundreds of millions of dollars to create more than 10,000 manufacturing jobs in the U.S. Additionally, in the same period, GE built or started to build 16 new
plants in the United States.

To Hello! Jeff Imelt, is that you??

Please: GE doesn't pay taxes, period.

Get over yourself. GE exports USA worker jobs overseas & has done so for years.

GE is a union-busting, polluting whore of satan corporation.

However, the RWF, as usual, is full of shit.

Thanks for playing, though, Mr. Imelt.
