FW: Origin of Left & Right

Subject: Origin of Left & Right

I have often wondered why it is that Conservatives are called the "right" and
Liberals are called the "left."

By chance I stumbled upon this verse in the Bible:
" The heart of the wise inclines to the right, but the heart of the fool to the left ."
Ecclesiastes 10:2 (NIV)

Thus sayeth the Lord.  Amen.

Can't get any simpler than that.

A shame that there are so few practical examples of this right-wing "wisdom" at work.

(A real wise man would take a gander at Wikipedia first and realize how little the terms mean in U.S. politics.)

Funny how the right wingers can cherry pick bible verses that suit their agenda and skip over the ones about the sick and the poor.

Leave it to the rightwing not to ponder the meaning of the verse, but to take it at its simplest, out-of-context, bottom level. No wonder they are constantly at odds with their own Biblical teachings. They really don't understand.

Exact opposite, but what else is new?

I couldn't name five wise reactionary teabaggers if you gave me a year. I'd even accept Ike, except he'd be tarred and feathered by our current crop of RW loonies.

Frankly, gruaud, at this point Nixon and their very own Sainted Ronnie of the Ray-gun would be tarred and feathered by the Tea Party crowd.

Recall that Nixon signed the Clean Air Act - heaven forfend! Tea Party Jesus is NOT amused. Plus Nixon actually *got out* of the War in Viet Nam. A double whammy bc the Military Industrial Complex and upper 1% would NOT be amused these days... as I duly NOTE that not only is Team USA fighting 4 dirty wars in Irak, Afghanistan, Pakistan & Libya, but our WARLords are threatening to drone bomb Syria and Yemen. Nixon? What a peacenik hippy socialist liberal he was...

Reagan? Even he said that collective bargaining was an inalienable right of all US citizens: California fruit 'n nut socialist!!!

What Solomon is saying is that a wise person's heart directs him/her while a fool's heart does not.

Towards the right is an idiom for at the right hand which was always seen as the hand of justice and protection.

I doubt that what the not-so-good "Christians" intended with this debased slur has anything to do with justice or protection. In sending out such a disparaging diatribe, esp whilst sacreligiously quoting scripture, indicates to me that the senders are actually being ruled by their LEFT hand... as Solomon would see it.

Good going. Try again!

Yet another reason why non-believers see no reason to associate with religious folks.

Why would anyone want to talk to someone, much less go their church in order to learn more about religion, etc, if this is how they feel? And these are the kind of stupid, dull, mean-spriited (and not factual) emails they send to one another, while clearly mocking & deriding those that don't think like they do.

Why would I want to go to church with anyone who finds this email meaningful or funny?

Sure you did. By chance. By the way - who are you?

"Can't get any simpler than that."

Nor more wrong.
