What an impressive list of programs that mostly assist average (or poorer than average) Americans (or developing countries, or small businesses). And the arts; who needs art?

But where's the line item for closing tax loopholes that allow Google, GE, and other corporations pay a tiny fraction of what working Americans owe? And where's the discussion of how to deal with rising health care costs and expensive military toys we'll never use?

So it has come down to clean drinking water, disaster preparedness, sandy beaches, and things like that verses closing corporate tax loopholes and letting the Bush tax cuts expire. Well at least we know what their priorities are.

Even without busting out the spreadsheet, I'm calling bullshit that all of these "cuts" together would add up to 2.5 trillion over a decade. A century, maybe.

Worse that that, you could cut all of these "evil" programs and it wouldn't come close to the cost of tax cuts for billionaires or the war in Iraq. But hey, I guess that money has already been spent, so fuck it, lets destroy every possible useful government program which Republicans don't like just to make ourselves feel better.

It's in the budget because it helps people. Why do conservatives hate everybody else so much? It's frickin' pathological.

Why not end the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq?

Problem solved. Instead of killing foreigners, lets help our fellow citizens.

Let me go one better: Tax the rich, the corporations, and the churches who went political.

Surplus.

You're welcome.

I did bust out the spreadsheet. Leaving aside the items for which there is no dollar figure given, and taking their assertions as absolutely true, the list entails about $32 billion in annual savings, and thus $320 billion over a decade. Which means, $2.5 trillion in 60 years.

That's a lot of money for anything other than the US government; it equals about 1% of annual spending.

I plopped the wingnut wishlist into a spreadsheet and came up with $34 billion annually - close to what womzilla calculated.

This savings would be further reduced by accounting for the economic benefits lost by the cuts, e.g., R&D and energy efficiency.

Another right wing arithmetic FAIL.

Thanks for doing the math so I didn't have to. It didn't pass the smell test, but I guess if some David Koch-paid rightwing think-tank dolt spews out some nonsense about "saving money" by cutting needed programs that inure to the benefit of the lower 97%, it warms the cockles of T-GOP hearts.

How they came to be so nasty, spiteful and delusional is one of life's enduring mysteries, although I blame Rush & Fox for most of it.

Load of pure baloney; guess it makes some foolish people happy to think about hating someone with less money than them.

For anyone who doesn't like this proposed bill...
First, grow up. These so called programs are derived from taxes which is the theft of wealth under the threat of force or violence.

Lets make a deal - I promise to keep my hands out of your pockets if you promise to keep your hands out of mine.
How can anyone disagree with that.

I am against this bill for the sole reason it only cuts pennies when real dollars are needed. We should be focused on fraud and waste instead of the measly scraps offered here.
Here's a lesson on how to determine what is "right" and what is "wrong": Think to yourself, "what if every person in the world did this? What would the outcome be?"
Example: What if everyone was on welfare; what would be the outcome?
Example: What if everyone worked hard for a living; what would be the outcome?
Example: What if everyone depended on the government for everything they needed/wanted; what would be the outcome?

People need to actually think about their actions and the consequences of those actions.
Keep you hands out of my pockets!

The ability to tax is granted to Congress under the constitution, a legally binding social contract which governs the United States. Don't like it? Either pass a no-tax ammendment to the Constitution, throw a revolution and write a new compact, or go find a country whose social contract you like better.

Lets make a deal - I promise to keep my hands out of your pockets if you promise to keep your hands out of mine.

Do you use public infrastructure? Does the military protect your rights? Did you or your children go to state funded schools or universitys? Do you own a home? Do you take a mortgage deduction on your taxes? Ever used Medicare, Medicaid, or Social Security?

If you answered yes to any of these or a thousand other questions, than you are benefiting from our social contract.

We should be focused on fraud and waste instead of the measly scraps offered here.

Ah yes, the legedary Fraud, Waste and Abuse. If only we could root out these vague and complicated characters we could save a bilion gillion google trillion dollars a year!

Example: What if everyone depended on the government for everything they needed/wanted; what would be the outcome?

You mean like the GI Bill? The interstate highway system? Medicare, Social Security, government back mortgages, education spending, the very Internet you are typing on right now?

All things created and sustained by the evil government. All things that have enriched our nation both literally and figuratively.

Keep you hands out of my pockets!

Keep your whiny, illogical rantings out of my Internet.
