I liked the movie better. Birth of a Nation is classic wingnut cinema.

Like there's not white people who look and behave in a similar way.

Racist, much, rightwingers??

So where are the conservatives to swing by and give us dreaded liberals what-for because we call out racism when we see it... and point out how it's being used by the Powers that Be to manipulate conservatives into being pitted against the "other" as a distraction from the real Class Warfare being waged... that is: the rich v. poor.

It's not minorities v. white folks. It's about how the elites are ripping the rest of us off, whether we happen to be black, white, brown, red, yellow, whatever...

Again: wake up.

And no: this isn't even slightly amusing.

yeah it's funny - come on, have a sense of humor.

blaney said...

No, it emphatically is not "funny" in any sense of the word. It's ugly, it's racist, it's crude, and it's disgusting.

Have some self-respect and some respect for others, please.

nahh its funny

I've never seen or heard the term 'moon cricket'.

I've never seen or heard the term 'moon cricket'.

Me neither. Google and Urbandictionary.com give some pretty disgusting definitions.

From what I gather its clearly a slur against African Americans, and an old one at that. Apparently its origin is in reference to African Americans standing outside at night to sing and/or socialize. It has a negative connotation.

Would it be funny if I put up a photo of Cleetus no Teefs and his hillbilly family with the text "Messicuns stoled mah job!!"?

I cannot grasp the mindset of those who find this amusing rather than offensive and would then share it with their e-mail buddies. It's seriously nasty and racist.

katz said...

Even if it weren't racist, it still wouldn't be funny. There's no joke in there anywhere. It's just "These people look different, they shouldn't get jobs."

I cannot grasp the mindset of those who find this amusing rather than offensive and would then share it with their e-mail buddies. It's seriously nasty and racist. - the mindset is lighten up or your gonna have a stroke

Even if it weren't racist, it still wouldn't be funny. There's no joke in there anywhere. It's just "These people look different, they shouldn't get jobs." Oh please.... its not the fact that the "look" different its the fact that their pants are around their ankles and their flashing gang signs - taking thenselves seriously.

Pretty much says it all. That particular picture wouldn't be funny. It would just be a stupid picture with a stupid caption, with no thought or humor value.

taking thenselves seriously.

And you know this... how? Did it ever occur to you that this picture is staged for effect?

But its not the picture itself that's unfunny and racist, its the context of the message. The use of a racial slur isn't funny. The assumption that these guys don't have a job, or that the only thing which holds minorities back in this country is the penchant for "gangbanging" is idiotic, shortsighted and racist. It pretends that there isn't such thing as institutional racism. That Jim Crow doesn't have a legacy which extends to this day.

This is the modern day equivalent of a Sambo cartoon. The only "humor" comes from a person's underlying resentment for people of a different race.

Hooray4US said...

It's not funny. It's racist, ugly & crude. Given that it's been sent out with an old-fashioned racist terminology (deliberately chosen because it's not well-known, most likely) is the big "tell" that the intention is to be nastily condescending to/about minorities.

Anyone who finds this humorous ought to do a little self-reflection on why they find racial stereotypes such a laugh-riot.

Guess that's one of the differences between some conservatives and most/all progressives. Some conservatives continue to insist that racist junk like this is an effen riot and that everyone just needs to "lighten up." Some conservatives and most/all progressives agree that such stuff really need to be relegated to the trash heap of history.

Anonymous said...

And you know this... how? Did it ever occur to you that this picture is staged for effect? what effect is that? the humorous one? it worked!!!

Anyone who finds this humorous ought to do a little self-reflection on why they find racial stereotypes such a laugh-riot. because they are stupid, if you take offense to a moronic picture... than that's your problem... I didn't create this... I just laughed at it. (oh I can't wait for the response to that)... bottom line is lighten up

Anonymous said...

I didn't create this... I just laughed at it.

So you didn't even create the unfunny, racist thing. You just laughed at someone else's unfunny, racist creation like a slack jawed, racist idiot. You must be so proud.

bottom line is lighten up

Ya lighten up people. Its only unfunny and racist.

Anonymous said...

what effect is that? the humorous one? it worked!!!

But you just said that they were "taking themselves seriously". So which is it?

Wait, don't try to unwind your twisted and moronic logic. I don't want bit of your brain all over the thread.

Anonymous said...

I like to think of myself as pretty easy going when it comes to right wing blather. (For instance, the next post with the stupid bumper sticker is worthy of an eye roll.) But this one? No redeeming qualities whatsoever. Maybe if the picture made fun of (IMHO) a silly fashion trend of having your pants down around your ankles, instead of making a racial point, then it might have been funny. This, though, is offensive.

Anoner said...

IF this was solely about making fun of stupid fashion trends and gang signs, then the guys or gals could be *white.* I would still find such a picture moronic, but it wouldn't be all that offensive.

This has been designed to be deliberately racist and is included with an introductory racist comment. Figure it out: if you find that "humorous," then you're a racist.

I've already "lightened up," and that's just the facts. Deal with it.

Anonymous said...

if you find that "humorous," then you're a racist. If you're constantly worried about racism than YOU are the racist my friend

Wait, don't try to unwind your twisted and moronic logic. I don't want bit of your brain all over the thread. what? - shut up bitch

IF this was solely about making fun of stupid fashion trends and gang signs, then the guys or gals could be *white.* I would still find such a picture moronic, but it wouldn't be all that offensive. oh okay so racism only goes one way - what a side show act... you just argue for the sake of arguing.

I like to think of myself as pretty easy going when it comes to right wing blather you have a valid point, but if no one took offense to stupid stuff like this, than it would probably just fade away. I did also miss the moon cricket thing - that may be going to far, but the rest of it is funny. I think the people in the photo would agree.

Anonymous said...

So these e-mails get sent out because they offend people? And they're still not racist?

Anonymous said...

If you're constantly worried about racism than YOU are the racist my friend

Nope. Sorry. Fail.

what? - shut up bitch

And there it is. He admits that he's been bested yet again. When all else fails, fall back on his childish idiocy.

At least he's a consistent troll.

Wait, no. At MOST he's a consistent troll. But still a troll, and still not a very good one.

Anonymous said...

oh okay so racism only goes one way

Nope, racism is racism. This picture is racist because it uses a racist slur and appeals to base racism in order to get a laugh out of denigrating a group of people.

- what a side show act... you just argue for the sake of arguing.

Says the stupid little troll who does nothing but "argue" (weakly and poorly) in order to get attention.

Anonymous said...

What a crock of shit.

I think the people in the photo would agree.

Really? You think the people in the photo would think its funny that people are projecting racist idiocies in order to get a tasteless laugh? Somehow I doubt it.

See what I don't get is the debate when we see a deluge of racist e-mail forwards on a weekly basis.

This isn't going away until the Confederates die out, except they teach their cute little kids this bile, too.

As soon as you open a little crack in that door, then the line of what's acceptable gets more and more blurry.

ferschitz said...

Agree with Gruaud. Stating that if we just "ignore" racist denigrating stuff like this will lead to racism "just fading away." That's a crock. I've been coming to this site for a while now, and there's at least one (usually more) racist nasty RWF *every single week.*

I did *ignore* this stuff for quite some time, but given that Rush Limbaugh and the rest of the rightwing talking head crowd pump out racist diatribes daily, I hasten to point out that it's not "fading away" anytime soon.

And yet again, duly noted that when pushed to the wall, conservatives THEN fall back on what Rush Limbaugh has directed them to say. If someone has the nerve to call out conservatives for their *blatant racism,* why then we liberals/Democrats are, ergo, the actual true real racists.

Twisted logic, much? Running away from self-introspection, much? Project, much?

I appreciate, though, some of the discussion that ensued here. I dislike bashing someone as a troll (that's just me) if they at least bother to show and explain how they feel. I disagree with their feelings and the rationale employed to explain them, but speaking for myself, I do appreciate the effort to communicate on a more substantive level.

ferschitz said...

The Southern Strategy was adopted during the Nixon Admin back in the late 1960s *in response to* the successes of the Civil Rights movement.

"...the Southern strategy refers to the late-20th century Republican Party strategy of winning elections in Southern states by exploiting anti-African American racism among Southern white voters and appealing to states' rights..."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Southern_strategy

It is no *accident* that we see so many racist RWF's here. It is very *deliberately* done because the Southern Strategy has worked so well at pitting poor whites against minorities.

It's all part of Class Warfare. Permitting yourself to think it's "funny" to mock others, plays into dehumanizing other people, and dismissing them as having value. And then it's easy to be pit against them and misled to blame them for your issues/problems, etc.

The same strategy is being employed right now by David Koch who is directly & paying off Scott Walker in WI demonize and villify gov't workers bc of their allegedly "outrageous" salaries and pensions. But I digress.

The Southern Strategy has been around since the 1960s, and it is used to very deliberately pump out racism and racist behavior especially against African Americans, but also against all minorities.

This is factual; very acknowledged by those who really pay attention to politics and political stragtegy.

Live and learn.

"I dislike bashing someone as a troll (that's just me) if they at least bother to show and explain how they feel."

Not me. A troll isn't interested in discourse, they're just interested in playing the asshole and pissing people off. So I give them plenty of rope and then let nature take its course. It never fails.

If you want to debate, you're welcome here; although if you're a conservative, you have a HELL of a lot of explaining to do. Trolls will always be treated as what they are.

Anonymous said...

graud just wants to argue with everyone "although if you're a conservative, you have a HELL of a lot of explaining to do." what a dumbass

Anonymous said...

what a dumbass

Ladies and gentlemen, the troll returns.

Notice how nothing of value is added to the discourse. Notice how no facts are presented, no thesis is advanced, no logic is to be found anywhere.

Its just a childish troll, spouting meaningless insults in order to try and make itself feel worthwhile.

katz said...

I feel the need to repeat: This isn't funny because there's no joke here. A joke might be a wordplay, a clever witticism, a sly observation, etc. See the bumper sticker above this post for an example.

This is more like the Seltzer and Freidberg method--it just says "lol, these guys look funny!" without even attempting to say anything actually funny about it.

Hell, all the troll even has to say is "It's funny! Because these guys look funny! lol!"

Anonymous said...

These guys have no clue what civilized society is. They create their own way of life. All you hand ringers .will you hire these guys?

gruaud said...

That's not exactly true. They're not creating a way of life; more like reacting to a life that is permeated with double standards and, to use a baseball analogy, two strikes before they even get to home plate.

Compare that to rich, perpetually drunk, not-too-bright frat boy George Bush, who was born on third base and thinks he hit a fucking triple.

Would I hire one of these kids? Sure, if they were qualified for the job. He'd have to pull up his pants and wear a shirt, but that's not much of a stretch when you're getting a paycheck.

ferschitz said...

Gee, Anon: racist much??

I see tons of young men running around dressed and acting this way. They come in all colors and types: Caucasian American, African American, Hispanic American, Asian American, Native American... you name it.

So someone makes a Poster of 2 black dudes *posing* for a picture, and yep: reliable dog whistle for WHITE racists to predictably fling out their reliably *judgemental* crap... oooohhhh but wouldja *hire* these "boys" for a job???? Wouldja wouldja?

Well, clearly YOU, Anon, would NOT and probably wouldn't even if they came dressed in a three piece suit with a flag lapel pin & a Harvard Law degree...

So what? Look around your nifty little gated WHITE community sometime and really look at the REALITY of all the WHITE boys dressed *exactly* the same way... but I'm *guessing* that you'd hire your WHITE neighbor's son... no stretch.

Racist is as racist does...

I predicted that the WHITE RACISTS out there would be *reliable* in how they reacted to this fake posed poster... and *sadly* I wasn't wrong... typical.
