FW: Pray if you want to!

Pray if you want to!

CBS and Katie Couric must be in a panic and rushing to reassure the White House that this is not network policy--re: Andy Rooney's commentary on prayer.
Folks, this is the year that  we RE-TAKE AMERICA & CANADA
********* Get  Ready *********
Keep this going around the  globe. Read it and forward every time you receive it.. We  can't give up on this issue.
Andy Rooney and  Prayer
Andy Rooney says:
I don't believe in Santa Claus, but I'm not going to sue somebody for singing a Ho-Ho-Ho song in December.  I don't agree with Darwin , but I didn't go out and hire a lawyer when my high school  teacher taught his Theory of Evolution.
Life, liberty or your pursuit of happiness will not be endangered because someone says a  30-second prayer before a football game. So what's the big deal?  It's not like somebody is up there reading the entire Book of Acts.  They're just talking to a God they believe in and asking him to grant safety to the players on the field and the fans going home from the game.
But it's a Christian prayer,  some will argue.
Yes, and this is the United States of America and Canada , countries founded on Christian principles.  According to our very own phone book, Christian churches outnumber all others better than 200-to-1.  So what would you expect -- somebody chanting Hare Krishna?
If I went to a football game in Jerusalem , I  would expect to hear a Jewish prayer.
If I went to a soccer game in  Baghdad , I would expect to hear a Muslim prayer.
If I went to a ping pong match in China ,  I would expect to hear someone pray to Buddha.
And I wouldn't be offended. It wouldn't bother me one bit.
When in Rome    .....
But what about the atheists? Is another argument.
What about them? Nobody is asking them to be baptized.  We're not going to pass the collection plate. Just humour us for 30 seconds.   If that's asking too much, bring a Walkman or a pair of ear plugs.  Go to the bathroom.  Visit the concession stand.  Call your lawyer!
Unfortunately, one or two will make that call.  One or two will tell thousands what they can and cannot do. I don't think a short prayer at a football game is going to shake the world's  foundations.
Christians are just sick and tired of turning the other cheek while our courts strip us of  all our rights.  Our parents and grandparents taught us to pray before eating, to pray before we go to sleep. Our Bible tells us to pray without ceasing.  Now a handful of people and their lawyers are telling us to cease praying.
God, help us.  And if that last sentence offends you, well, just sue me.
The silent majority has been silent too long.  It's time we tell that one or two who scream loud enough to be heard that the vast majority doesn't care what they want.  It is time that the majority rules!   It's time we tell them, "You don't have to pray; you don't have to say the Pledge of Allegiance; you don't have to believe in God or attend services that honour Him.  That is your right, and we will honour your right; but by golly, you are no longer going to take our rights away.  We are fighting back, and we WILL WIN!"
God bless us one and all...Especially those who denounce Him, God bless America and Canada , despite all our faults, We are still the greatest nations of all. God bless our service men who are fighting to protect our right to pray and worship God.
Let's make 2011 the year the silent majority is heard and we put God back as the foundation of our families and institutions. And our military forces come home from all the wars.
Keep looking up.
If you agree with this, please pass it on.
If not delete it.
Pray if you want to!

I don't even have to look at Snopes to know this wasn't written by Andy Rooney. It's just another boilerplate Crybaby Christian screed complaining about how maddening it is to have to tolerate the exceedingly few number of people in this country who don't believe in Jebus.

Snopes - written by a sports writer in Texas. CBS has nothing to do with it.

I don't have a strong stance on paryers during school sporting activities, particularly in highly-religious areas like Texas, where the author is from, but the real jewel of the piece is the author's belief that every country has a regional religion that is invoked with as much fervor as Christianity is here in the U.S.

Poor Andy Rooney - he gets blamed for all sorts of idiocy that have nothing to do with him.

From Wikipedia:

"[Rooney] has claimed...to have a liberal bias, stating, "There is just no question that I, among others, have a liberal bias. I mean, I'm consistently liberal in my opinions." Though in a controversial 1999 book Rooney self-identified as agnostic, Rooney has, as of 2008, come out as an atheist. Over the years many of his editorials have poked fun at the concept of God and organized religion."

I mean, COME ON.

"Our Bible tells us to pray without ceasing."

Yeah, and it also tells you to go in your room and shut your door while you're doing it, because praying in public is what the hypocrites do.

Maybe you should actually read the Bible, all the way through. It probably doesn't say what you think it does, and says a lot of stuff you never thought it did.

Yes, I'm sure Obama just hates this. The economy is in a rut, security problems around the globe, an extremely crazy and hostile Republican party which is dedicated to destroying him, but what keeps (Christian) President up and night is the fear of the ramblings of a 92 year old about his own religion. Good things Rooney didn't write this, he would be vaulted to the top of Obama's enemies list!

I don't believe in Santa Claus, but I'm not going to sue somebody for singing a Ho-Ho-Ho song in December.

You don't believe in Santa Claus?

I don't agree with Darwin , but I didn't go out and hire a lawyer when my high school teacher taught his Theory of Evolution.

But many have, and they all lost. Because teaching facts is different than teaching fairy tales.

But it's a Christian prayer, some will argue.

I love the assumption that everyone would choose a Christian prayer. Hell, I'd be willing to let them say all the prayers they want, provided the rotated the faiths weekly to represent everyone. On week we'll do a Roman Catholic prayer. One week a Jewish one, and a muslim prayer, and a secular humanist prayer. You think these prayer nuts would be so welcoming of other faiths?

If I went to a ping pong match in China , I would expect to hear someone pray to Buddha.

You would? Because I'm pretty sure the Chinese are officially atheists, and I also think they wouldn't want to bother Buddha with something as trifling as a ping pong match (which is the only sport they play in China!)

And I wouldn't be offended. It wouldn't bother me one bit.

But would you be offended if the muslims who also attend your public school demanded that their prayers be included in the pregame ceremonies? Based on the recent response to muslims just trying to build community centers and worship spaces in this country, I doubt they would be embraced.

Christians are just sick and tired of turning the other cheek while our courts strip us of all our rights.

We are tired of doing exactly what Jesus told us to do!

And never have your rights been stripped, you poor little whiner. YOU can pray all you want. Pray the whole fucking game if you want. You just can't have an official endorsement of religion.

Now a handful of people and their lawyers are telling us to cease praying.

They say NO SUCH FUCKING THING! Pray all you fucking want! Just don't expect or demand a state endorsement of your personal religious beliefs.

God bless our service men who are fighting to protect our right to pray and worship God.

Yup, that's why we had to send those guys overseas, so we can have state sponsored prayer at football games.

And our military forces come home from all the wars.

Like how they tacked this on.

God what a bunch of fucking tripe.

I love "around the globe" forwards, as if it was difficult to send an email to someone on the other side of the planet.

Hey, fake Christians: try reading your Bibles instead of thumping them.

We've seen something like this before attributed to Mr. Rooney, who said no such thing. Plus this is so poorly written that it's even more of an insult to Mr. Rooney.

What a bunch of LOSERS! It's quite incredible how they like to believe that WAR, Inc is about "protecting" whiney-baby Christianists' "rights to pray."

The Warz were started so that a bunch of super-wealthy folks get even richer off of the Military Industrial Complex. They could give a sh*t about the serfs who want to pray at football games, believe me, but they laugh at this kind of foolish propoganda that fools these idiots all the time.

This rightwing propoganda brought to you by the billionaire Koch Brothers family of industries.

This post starts & ends with the exortation to "Pray if you want to."

Yeah, and so?? Who's stopping you? Seriously: who's stopping anyone from praying?

Answer: no one.

Wake up. You're being bamboozled.

A ping-pong match in China and praying to Buddha!! that's pretty funny, actually, but the humor is wasted on this crowd. China, like Russia, pretty much outlawed religion, and you don't pray to Buddha... but I digress.

Idiotic nonsense.
