Fw: Do Not Buy

Apparently  President obama thinks that putting hearts and  butterflies on the new stamp will
make most  people not realize that the rest is Arabic and  probably not something we want to  support.

New Stamp - the  second one!!!

USPS  New 44-Cent  Stamp  Celebrates  a Muslim holiday.  If there  is only ONE thing you forward today.. let it be  this!
President  Obama has directed the United States Postal  Service to REMEMBER and HONOR the EID MUSLIM  holiday season with a new commemorative 44-Cent  First Class Holiday Postage Stamp.

REMEMBER  to adamantly & vocally BOYCOTT this stamp,  when you are purchasing your stamps at the post  office.
All you have to say is
"No  thank you, I do not want that Muslim Stamp on my  letters!"

To  use this stamp would be a slap in the face to  all those AMERICANS who died at the hands of  those whom this stamp  honors.
REMEMBER  the MUSLIM bombing of Pan Am Flight 103!

REMEMBER the MUSLIM bombing of the World  Trade Center in 1993!

REMEMBER the MUSLIM  bombing of the Marine Barracks in Lebanon !

REMEMBER the MUSLIM bombing of the
Military Barracks in Saudi  Arabia !

REMEMBER the MUSLIM bombing of  the American Embassies in Africa !

REMEMBER the MUSLIM bombing of the USS  COLE!

REMEMBER the MUSLIM attack on  9/11/2001 !

REMEMBER all the AMERICAN  lives that were lost in those vicious MUSLIM  attacks!

Pass  this along to every
Patriotic  American that you  know and get the word  out!  Honor  the United States of America  !

The US Postal Service does publish Muslim holiday stamps. It also publishes Christmas, Hannukah, Kwanzaa, and Easter stamps, maybe some other holidays I can't remember, and also various seasonal themes and secular commenorations as well.

Point is, the postal service makes stamps to commemorate holdays from a variety of religious and cultural traditions. If you celebrate that holiday or tradition, you can buy the stamps. If you don't celebrate that holiday or tradition, you don't buy those stamps. Simple.

As for this forward - wow. Just wow.

Scapegoating all members of a minority religion, and trying to gin up political rage against those citizens and those who would support their right to be a part of the society...does this remind you of anything? Anything at all?

I'm glad to know that the President is responsible for postage stamp designs. He sure gets around. I wonder if he picked out the typeface for my city's new street signs. ;)

I love this sentence:

"If there is only ONE thing you forward today.. let it be this!"

I love the idea that these people routinely forward multiple emails every day and have to prioritize.

WTF is wrong with these people?? Sheesh. Rightwing thinktank jingoistic propoganda set to ultimate nutty setting.

I've bought Eid Stamps. Guess when they first came out???? Yeah right: during the reign of Bush the dumber.

So where was the rightwing outrage over that??? Oh I forgot, zillionaire David Koch (who funds the Tea Partiers) didn't have to gin up fake outrage over war criminal W, as the conservatives were totally "down" with everything W did.

IOKIYAR!!

Double Standars R conservatives.

I'd love for there to be NO religious holidays commemorated on postage stamps. But we all know how much the Christofascists would love that.

Happy Eid, bitches! You deserve each other!

I hear President Obama personally draws every stamp design, even the ones from before he was elected to the federal government.

HOLY CRAP!! This is STILL going around?! I deleted my first Eid-stamp-boycott email over 10 years ago! It was pre-9-11!!

But wait, NOW they have some bullshit custom stamp up front, with some bullshit Obama rant to match. (Note to RWD: official US postage doesn't have barcodes, let alone sparkly butterflies.)

Good god, will this one ever die?

Hibryd said...

Oops, I mathed wrong. Make that 9 years ago. I got my first one of these "boycott" emails from someone who was on a lot of pro-Israel mailing lists, and after 9/11 I started getting a modified version with lists of terrorist attacks.

This is so full of FAIL. The stamp pictured is not a USPS stamp, it's one designed by a customer on Zazzle.

The USPS stamp, on the other hand, was released in 2001 during GWB's term. It says "Blessed holiday" and I use them every xmas to freak out my midwest relations. There is nothing Muslim-specific about the stamp, it's just in Arabic.

Ignoring the unfactual junk in here about Obama personally designing stamps that are actually not real stamps, etc, the rightwingnut hysteria about Muslims is glaringly offensive and mindnumbingly stupid.

And finally: an Eid stamp or something in Arabic saying "Blessed Holidays" - who cares?

Like Marc said, I'd prefer NO religious anything on USPS stamps, but given that stamps are created to celebrate other religions' holidays: so what???

A lot of sound & fury signifying nothing.

I want to use those stamps when I mail out Christmas cards this year!
