FWD: Eagle Scouts Snubbed

Subject: Eagle Scouts Snubbed

Obama snubbed the Special Olympics and now ignores the Eagle Scouts because he doesn't believe in the Boy Scouts!
This lady is spreading the word by writing to Glen Beck.....

He won't sign life saving awards either.

Every President since 1912 has been the honorary President of the Boy Scouts of America.  President Obama refused that honor.

Did you hear anything about the Boy Scouts 100th Anniversary? Why did the press ignore it?  Let's see, they promote honor, integrity, putting others first, love of country and of course they believe in God.

Not much press coverage on this story, The first president in 100 years to insult his finest citizens, Eagle Scouts.

This is the E-mail Linda Thacker, sent to Glenn Beck, and I forwarded to Glenn's producer Adam.

Dear Mr. Beck,

On March 24, 2009 I had the honor of attending my Grandson, David Osborne's Eagle Scout Court of Honor.  I imagine you have attended one of these wonderful ceremonies.  I also feel confident that you are very knowledgeable of what it means to have earned the status of  Eagle Scout.  Our entire family is so very excited and at the Court of Honor we were all just beaming as our wonderful young man was honored for his achievements.  After the Court was closed David's leaders pulled him aside and explained to him that they regretted to have to explain to him, as sad as it is, that his certificate was different from others they had presented because his certificate did not have the signature of the President of the
United States .  They explained that Obama does not support the Boy Scouts of America and therefore does not sign the Eagle Certificates.  To date I believe there may be as many as 10,000 of this countries finest young men who do not have the signature of the president of the country they have taken an oath to respect and serve on their Eagle Certificate.  To my knowledge Congress chartered BSA in 1916 part of which the President of the  United States is the Honorary President of The Boy Scouts of America and President Obama is the first sitting president to personally refuse to sign these certificates. I believe if the country were to be educated on national television of what the Boy Scouts of America stands for they would join those of us who already know, and would be as outraged as we are!

Also, your good friend Jim Lago was also in attendance at this Eagle Court of Honor.  I had the privilege of speaking with him this morning on his radio talk show here in
Corpus Christi and shared with him this same information.  He was equally alarmed to say the least.

This information should ignite in every parent the urgency to instill the great values held by the Boy Scouts of America in their young men for the cause of maintaining this great nation.  We must stand united.

With appreciation,  Linda Thacker, grandmother to eleven of Americas finest future citizens, David, Erikka, Adam, Ryan, Hailey, Tygh, Mana, Gerritt, Maya, Ezra and Lynden Osborne.

So, that's the story thus far, calls have been made, citizens are angry, especially the parents of Eagle Scouts.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if ex-president Bush announced, he would be willing to sign all Eagle Scout Certificates for as long as President Obama is in office?

We have a very small man in a very big office.

Don't you think it's time to get rid of this Un-American Muslim Traitor and get a real American back to running our country, like what we grew up with. Because I have had enough.

Hits all the big points: righteous indignation, persecution complex for being Christian and conservative, calls Obama a Muslim, and of course is 100% false in its claims. For bonus points, it supposedly came from someone's sweet old grandma!

A classic example of right wing extremist garbage.

First, this is false:

Second, as a leftist and an eagle scout, let me say that while I have many disagreements with the organization as it is now run, there isn't any real reason to polticize the eagle scouts themselves. Getting through the whole process is challenging, but worthwhile; the political aspects of the organization aren't really something you focus on when you're a kid. Yes, its a tad right wing, but I'm also a scratch golfer so I'm used to tolerating right wingers.

Does cognitive dissonance cause brain damage?

Is it irresponsible to speculate?

It is irresponsible not to.

Thanks for the Snopes info. I think this has either already been through here, or I saw it somewhere else. All I needed to see was Glenn Beck's name to know that it had to be a complete lie and full of racist, crummy, hateful, spiteful stuff. Don't even need to read it to see what garbage this is. "Muslim Traitor"?? Sheesh. These people really need to wake up to reality. There's an oil volcano in the Gulf of Mexico, and you waste time crying about a lie like this?

Ugh

BTW, I know many ex-Eagle Scouts who are also leftists, and they found the whole scouting experience to be good. It's a shame that these attempts are made to politicize something like that but unsurprising these days.

Once an Eagle Scout, always an Eagle Scout.

(My card has Clinton's signature, which is a little embarrassing, but my troop never dealt much in BSA politics.)

First Anon Eagle Scout here again: Mine has Bush I's signature. Respect the office if not the holder of the office.

True story: while I was in the final throws of completing the rank, the council sent a young up and coming executive to sort of supervise our true. Great guy and a good mentor; former eagle himself.

He of course became a big exec in California nad made a career out of it, only to get very publicly canned for being gay about 5 years ago. Still kind of pissed at them about that one.

Yes, it's too bad about the Boy Scouts' stand on the gay issue. I remember that situation in CA. I can see where it could be a tricky issue for them, but it seems like they could've handled it better.

Yeah, Tootseye, I'm of mixed mind on the issue. On the one hand, it is a private organization and can have who it wants as its members. But, I think it SHOULD allow gay members. Plus, the guy in question was an employee, so it raises a lot of employment discrimination issues for which there aren't freedom of association issues.

I don't give them money, and if someone's kid is in it, I encourage them because I think the program has merit. My kid is female so I haven't had to wrestle with the decision as to whether I would want my son in it.
