Jesus sez: "Go pray in a closet!" - Matthew 6:5-6

I had the same thought as Daft Greg.

The exact quote is from Matthew 6:6

"But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly."

Also, all of that greed and corruption...which is the party that worships the greed of the free market, again?

Thanks for the comments; think I get the drift. Won't bother to watch. What these people know about humbleness, humility, mercy, the best way to pray or worship and taking care of those in need wouldn't fill a thimble.

"...I tell you the truth, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God."

Matthew 19: 23-24
Mark 10: 24-25
Luke 18: 24-25

2Chron 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

If Christians who ask other Christians to humble themselves, pray to God Almighty, and repent from their sins, why does that infuriate non-Christians. For the most part, Christians are the humblest, most charity minded people around. We do pray in our closets, love one another and pray for our leaders. We help those who are not as well off financially as us. We need to pray daily for our leaders (Dem or Rep) to make the right decisions for our country. That is what this presentation was about. How did this forward go on the rabbit trail from prayer to talking about rich people. Do you think all conservatives are rich? Besides, being rich (loving your money) does not keep you from going to heaven... not believing in God and Jesus the Savior as the true and only Creator of this universe will keep you from going to heaven for all eternity.

Anonymous I doubt anyone is infuriated by prayer. But it is infuriating to see religious and political messages mixed together as this one is. Sprinkled in with the bible quotes of this email are phrases like: One World government, Obama did not encourage National Day of Prayer, and a quote from Reagan promoting Christianity. This email isn't about prayer alone, it is another propaganda tool by people who want to merge military worship and nationalism with Christianity. A nice combination if you're promoting fascism.

When a evangelical Christians decided to bring their religion into politics, attacking science, promoting theocracy, and generally trying to bring us back to the good old days of the dark ages, yes people got pissed off. And I've never heard any other Christians directly tell them to stop it. I wish they would.

That's not what infuriates us.

Think harder.

Most of those who post here regularly are not offended or upset by calls for prayer and endorse citizens' rights to freedom to worship as they choose.

What people who post here don't like is the intrustion of church into the affairs of our government. Our founding fathers strongly advocated for a complete separation of church and state. I wholeheartedly agree, and so, I completely disagree with emails like this, which go against the principles upon which the United States was founded.

In so stating this, I am NOT disagreeing with prayer per se. Those who wish to say that's what I'm doing are being very dishonest both with themselves and with others.

What I also find irritating is the HYPOCRISY of people who claim to follow the teachings of Jesus, but ignoring the Mathew 6:6 quote above.

Feel free to "ask other Christians to humble themselves, pray to God Almighty, and repent from their sins." Sounds like a good idea to me.

But how about you do it privately - you know, the way Jesus TOLD you too? According to the words of YOUR prophet, a big public show of your faith is actually the opposite of what you've been instructed to do.
