Fw: Health Care

I can find nothing on Snopes to discount this . . . anyone?

Everybody that is on this mailing list is either a senior citizen, is getting close or knows somebody that is.
Most of you know by now that the Senate version (at least) of the "stimulus" bill includes provisions for extensive rationing of health care for senior citizens. The author of this part of the bill, former senator and tax evader, Tom Daschle was credited today by Bloomberg with the following statement.
Bloomberg: "Daschle says health-care reform “will not be pain free.” Seniors should be more accepting of the conditions that come with age instead of treating them."
If this does not sufficiently raise your ire, just remember that Senators and Congressmen have their own healthcare plan that is first dollar or very low co-pay which they are guaranteed the remainder of their lives and are not subject to this new law if it passes.
Please use the power of the internet to get this message out. Talk it up at the grassroots level. We have an election coming up in one year and nine months. We have the ability to address and reverse the dangerous direction the Obama administration and it allies have begun and in the interim, we can make their lives miserable. Lets do it!
If you disagree, don't do anything.

If a standing senator said this, then hell yeah he deserves a punch in the face!
But I'm suspecting, considering the track record of RW emails, that the quote is false, misleading, or otherwise just made up. Also this particular quote doesn't quite ring of statesmanship.
(Sing along, it's fun!)
If... you... quote... you should cite your source!
If you're gonna use a quote cite your source!
If you're gonna use a quote, if you're gonna use a quote, if you're gonnaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa use a quote...
CITE YOUR SOURCE!

It's worth noting that "will not be pain-free" is the only part of the quote attributed to Daschle. The rest is from a Bloomberg columnist. I can't find where he actually said that, either, since Google is buried in reposts of that article and this e-mail forward.Nor can I find a reference to this 2006 outcry over macular degeneration, although there was a 2003 article about a treatment that was slow to be approved.

In short, this is yet another blurb fearful that if the government takes over health care, they will suddenly decide to kill off all babies and old people to save money. It's hard to say without reading the actual bill which, if any, accusations here are true, but it's not like private health care providers are saints in treating the seriously ill, either.

No I didn't find anything in snopes, and a google search was less rewarding but just led to this article by the dubious Elizabeth McCaughey in Bloomberg.com:
http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601039&refer=columnist_mccaughey&sid=aLzfDxfbwhzs

However, in searching on Media Matters.org, you can find a LOT of info that debunks the spurious claims of Elizabeth McCaughey:
http://mediamatters.org/items/200902120011?f=s_search
including the fact that the National Coordinator of Health Information Technology was actually a position created in the Dept of Health & Human Services under W's reign of error.

So, searching very briefly just a tad beyond teh google & snopes provides ample evidence that is yet more right-wing lies, spin & b.s.

also you can see that Lush Rimjob, Lou Snobbs, Sean Manatee, et all immediately starting braying the "talking points" to their ever gullible rubes...

this is NOT true, and it's not what was in HR 1.

suprised? didn't think so...

do some searching yourself & you'll see for yourself.

Um, the Democrats are the party that's FOR socialized medicine and cheap prescription drugs via collective bargaining.

The Republicans are the ones who think you should pray yourself well while working at Walmart.

Dementia is a terrible, terrible thing.

The gullible right has always been misled to act against their own better intersts. It *may* be true that Tom Dashle said something about "it will be painful," but then BHO has also said that changing/fixing this stuff won't be easy.

However, there are AMPLE TRUE stories out there about how horrid it is for folks who get ill even IF they have allegedly "good health care coverage." Most of the righties don't realize that they, too, are but one paycheck away from disaster, and that almost no one's health "insurance" actually covers most of your needs in high risk situations.

I'm not exactly sure what the bill had in it, and I'm sure not going to bother to try to dig thru based on the dubiousness of forwards such as this one (as the first post says: no sources given, no links, just more b.s.). But I seriously doubted that it contained the kind nonsense this post claims.

Let's face it: the plutocrats do NOT want any kind of adequate health care in this country. They have gotten quite rich ripping us all off via the dubious "insurance" industry (AIG anyone?), as well as scamming the health care system (egregious salaries for HMO CEOs, etc).

The right wing can actually be quoted as stating outright: health care is a LUXURY, and citizens are NOT entitled to health care. So do the math and figure it out. This is more brainwashing from the right.

Yup. Here in Canada, we put our seniors on ice floes. It's on the internet, so it must be true!

Well with the way things are going, an ice flow when may be a more merciful option...
