Fw: Gun Control

Subject: Gun Control

------------------------------

China established gun control in 1935. From 1948 to 1952, 20 million political dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated
------------------------------

Guatemala established gun control in 1964. From 1964 to 1981, 100,000 Mayan Indians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
---- ------------- -------------

-----------------------------

Defenseless people rounded up and exterminated in the 20th Century because of gun control: 56 million.
------------------------------

It has now been 12 months since gun owners in Australia were forced by new law to surrender 640,381 personal firearms to be destroyed by their own Government, a program costing Australia taxpayers more than $500 million dollars. The first year results are now in:

List of 7 items:

Australia-wide, homicides are up 3.2 percent.

Australia-wide, assaults are up 8.6 percent.

Australia-wide, armed robberies are up 44 percent (yes, 44 percent)!

In the state of Victoria alone, homicides with firearms are now up 300 percent. Note that while the law-abiding citizens turned them in, the criminals did not, and criminals still possess their guns!

While figures over the previous 25 years showed a steady decrease in armed robbery with firearms, this has changed drastically upward in the past 12 months, since criminals now are guaranteed that their prey is unarmed.

There has also been a dramatic increase in break-ins and assaults of the ELDERLY. Australian politicians are at a loss to explain how public safety has decreased, after such monumental effort, and expense was e xpended in successfully ridding Australian society of guns. The Australian experience and the other historical facts above prove it.

You won't see this data on the US evening news, or hear politicians disseminating this information.

Guns in the hands of honest citizens save lives and property and, yes, gun-control laws adversely affect only the law-abiding citizens.

Take note my fellow Americans, before it's too late!

The next time someone talks in favor of gun control, please remind them of this history lesson.

With guns, we are 'citizens'. Without them, we are 'subjects'.

During WWII the Japanese decided not to invade America because they knew most Americans were ARMED!

If you value your freedom, please spread this anti-gun control message to all of your friends.

The purpose of fighting is to win. There is no possible victory in defense. The sword is more important than the shield, and skill is more important than either. The final weapon is the brain. All else is supplemental.

SWITZERLAND ISSUES EVERY HOUSEHOLD A GUN! SWITZERLAND 'S GOVERNMENT TRAINS EVERY ADULT THEY ISSUE A RIFLE. SWITZERLAND HAS THE LOWEST GUN RELATED CRIME RATE OF ANY CIVILIZED COUNTRY IN THE WORLD!!!
IT'S A NO BRAINER! DON'T LET OUR GOVERNMENT WASTE MILLIONS20OF OUR TAX DOLLARS IN AN EFFORT TO MAKE ALL LAW ABIDING CITIZENS AN EASY TARGET.

I'm a firm believer of the 2nd Amendment! If you are too, please forward.

I'm pretty sure I heard an Australian disprove those stats, but I'm not Australian, so I can't speak for them. But they (like the UK) never had a gun culture like the US has, so it's really not the same thing to compare them - and the same probably goes for all those other countries.

Clearly, someone needs a basic lesson in correlation vs. causation.

I love the fact that in the world of right wing logic, all you need to prevent genocide and oppression is unrestricted access to guns, and all an oppressive government has to do is ban guns and the next thing you know, millions of people are run through the camps because they couldn't defend themselves.

Then again, that fits right in with the masturbatory fantasy most "patriotic Americans have" that when the Chinese invade they'll be able to hold off the PLA with their deer rifles and Tek-9s.

You know what other countries have lots of gun control and low gun-related crime rates? France, England, Germany (hell all of the EU practically), Japan, Korea, and Canada.

You know where gun control is non-existent and practically everybody is armed (besides Switzerland)? Iraq, Palestine, Somalia and Sudan.

Take your pick.

Also,

virtually every country in the developed world has tougher gun control laws than the United States. Even Finland, Canada, and Switzerland (for personal firearms) have restrictions on firearms ownership which most Americans would find unbearable, such as waiting periods, background checks, permit applications, storage requirements, magazine capacity limitations, etc.

And yet these countries still have relatively high rates of personal gun ownership and only a tiny fraction of the gun violence (France, Finland, Sweden, Austria, Germany, Canada, and Switzerland all have over 30 guns per 100 residents).

Disregarding all the blatantly-misappropriated historical events that apparently can be blamed solely on lack of guns, the modern part is pretty confusing. The last major gun law reform in Australia was 1996, with a lesser bill in 2002. In 2002, armed robbery was up 0.1% from 1997, while in 2005, it was down 0.1%. Also, Swiss men are allowed to keep their government-issued guns -- which they receive during their mandatory military service. Carrying them in public still requires a permit.

Firm believers in the 2nd amendment, huh? Are they members of a well-regulated militia, say the National Guard?

I love the idea that the Japanese chose not to invade the US because "they knew most Americans were ARMED!"

The story of World War two that the person who wrote this has in his or her mind must be precious.

That Australia crap is an old lie.

Anon:

It's probably the same reason the Germans chose not to invade Britain. Having their elite paratroopers cut down by those Home Guard farmers with their shotguns, pitchforks and pikes was just too terrifying to contemplate.

Assuming that the Australian stats are right for the sake of discussion, I'm sure that the increase in crime has nothing to do with the imploding economy and everything to do with the gun program.

Idiots.

Oh thanks to how easy it is to buy weapons in this country, we are virtually enjoying armed insurrection on our border w/Mexico. It is a known fact that the drug cartels buy a lot of their weapons legally in the Eww Ess Aaaay....

So: yay, yippee skippee, we are all so much SAFER b/c of all the weapons that just about anyone can buy here.

As stated by previous posts, most of this forward is a buncha nutso crap. I heard something briefly on the radio recently about how all of these gun "nuts" are awfully paranoid and think that at any given moment they are either going to be violently robbed and/or attacked by some foreign country... oooga boooga.

The right, I fear, has gone certifiably insane and dumb posts like this only bolsters my observations.

I live in South Carolina, one of the most gun happy states in the USofA. There was a story the other night about whether a day care center would be fined or charged because one 2 year old seriously bit an infant in a crib. My wife's comment was that, if we would just let babies carry guns in day care this could have been prevented.

Please consider two very different worldviews held simultaneously in the minds of right-wingers:

1) The military is defending our country at all times and is the most honorable, righteous organization out there. The men and women who serve in the military are heros putting their lives on the line for us.

2) Civilians being armed is a necessity because the only thing keeping our government from turning this county into a dictatorship is Cletus and his shotgun.

For the person who wrote this email, who believes the government would actually break down everyone's door if we couldn't shoot back... How would the evil, anti-gun government impose martial law, exactly? Oh, right, they'd send the military out to enforce it. Do they honestly think their noble military would follow those orders?

Yeah, that's not going to happen.

Darfur and Somalia must have the craziest gun control laws in the history of history.

Marc with a C said...

Well depending on you local state laws...

I could buy a bunch of guns legally (in VA where I live, there is no limit to the number of rifles you can buy, you can only buy 1 handgun a month) and then go on "vacation" to Mexico and sell them there at a profit.

Guess what? That's what a lot of unscrupulous gun dealers on the border do.

But God forbid an ATF agent come knocking at your door to conduct an audit.

That's just Supreme Calif Barack Muhammed Saddam Hussein Zulu Obama X's secret plans to take your guns away.

Now if we could just convince red America that gun control was designed to keep guns out of the hands of the "spics," then we'd be in good shape.
