Fwd: The Government & Mustang Ranch

Back in 1990, the Government seized the Mustang Ranch brothel in Nevada for tax evasion and, as required by law, tried to run it. They failed and it closed.
Now, we are trusting the economy of our country and $850 Billion + to a pack of nit-wits who couldn't make money running a whore house and selling booze.
Now if that don't make you nervous, what does?

So true, because as we can all see, private enterprise had been doing a bang-up job of running things up until now. No nitwits in the private sector would hand out bonuses in the tens of millions of dollars for running their companies into the ground, no sir.

Though it occurs to me that a background in running a brothel could come in handy here, since it's obvious we're all being royally screwed by current management.

It is a standard right-wing myth that the US government "tried to run" the Mustang Ranch.

They didn't. The owners of the Mustang Ranch--first Joe Comforte, then a holding company he controlled--conducted a series of criminal tax frauds over the entire decade of the 1990s which ended up with the US seizing the Ranch and re-selling it to another owner, who are running it still.

The fundamental rule of right-wing rhetoric is that truth is completely irrelevant.

Truth? What's truth got to do with it? Same for facts. As we all know, reality definitely has a left-wing "bias."

If you only get your news from Fux Nutwork (and KO recently quoted "Sir" Rupert Murdoch actually saying that Fox is not run on facts)& tube sites like Drudge, then you're not going to be very grounded in anything that resembles reality.

However, most rethuglicans left the land of reality some time ago...

Kevin, check again. The government (IRS) actually did seize the Mustang Ranch and try to run it as a brothel. When it failed, they auctioned off drapes, beds, sheets, bidets, even room number plates.
THEN they sold it to its new owner.

Sandman, can you show a link to any information about the U.S. running the ranch? Local news stories say it was not run as a brothel (the girls left before it was seized) and the county banned prostitution there just to quiet things down.
