As for American Samoa, the Speaker can't be blamed for this. Until the minimum wage reforms were passed last year, American Samoa's minimum wage was set by a special committee. So in this case I think the Dems deserve a little credit for this.

My own right wing dad and world-class Pelosi-hater forwarded this to me last week.

Of course, it has been debunked at Snopes.com:

http://www.snopes.com/politics/business/americansamoa.asp

Particulary interesting to me is that American Samoa and the Marianas didn't follow minimum wage standards for years becasuse REPUBLICANS Jack Abramoff & Tom Delay fought any attempt to bring them under Federal Labor law.

Hell, Colorado Senator Bob Shaffer will probably lose his re-election campaign next week partially because when he went there on Abramoff's dime, he spent his time parasailing instead of investigating labor conditions, child prostitution, slavery and forced abortions (Talkingpointsmemo.com has done extensive reporting on this).

Of course it was the Dems who ended up passing the minimum wage increase after they took back the Congress in '06 and the Republicans had been fighting it for years.

Wingnuts swing - and miss, again!
