FW:The Future

"This one's actually from my right wing grandpa.

As a Star Trek fan and a liberal, I was pained.

My grandmother asked me if I enjoyed all the forwards she and my
grandfather send. (She usually sends the plain old glurge and urban
legends; he sends the right-wing ones.) I said I honestly didn't have
time to read them, and if she wanted to take me off the list, that was
okay with me and I wouldn't be offended. (Oh please oh please!)
Guess she didn't remember." - Caroline
Caroline, I feel that sharp pain too. Ugly forwards like this make me wonder if I should even post them. Enter daylight:

Even leaving aside the obvious overall ouchyness of both the nationalistic glurge and the fact that it is sullying Star Trek, there's an appropriate quote from the movie Crash:

"When did Persian become Arab?"

Oh, wait, I forgot, they're all supposed to be the same to us. Silly brown people expecting good patriotic 'Murkins to tell them apart. [/snark]

And when did Sulu become Chinese?

Sadly, I know people for whom that is not a joke, but rather a happy prediction.

Ummmm, Dr. Bashir from Deep Space 9? Played by a Sudanese actor.
